I just traveled jetBlue. Heres their policy from the website: JetBlue | Help.
Which says skateboards have to be checked in, but I was able to carry on my 31" shortboard and my derringer 28 no problem. So I guess you could try with a dervish.

re: Traveling with longboards
Just get there a little early, worst case scenario you go back and check it in. Make sure they put it with the fragile luggage though, which seems to work fairly well. Only marks on my board after flying were the parts of the stupid luggage sticker I couldn't get off.

Nice! I'm flying out friday afternoon from San Diego via Southwest. If you can waltz in with a 42 incher, then I'm sure I can bring a 39 incher. Sweet!

re: Traveling with longboards
Just found something rather interesting concerning skateboards as carry on luggage in Europe. There was a press release as far back as 2004 that explicitly listed skateboards under "blunt instrument capable of causing injury" and therefor as a prohibited article.
link to source
Now the European Union thinks up loads of this kind of bs, so if the rules get carried out like that is another thing, especially since it's been a few years since that list came out. If you had different experiences in countries belonging to the EU, feel free to post them! It certainly changed my plans as I'm probably preparing my board for check in when returning to Germany.

re: Traveling with longboards
Hey I was reading this thread and my roommate made me think of something. If you have a baseball gearbag (batbag or whatever you call it) you could probably fit a deck in that easy. It is only 35" long usually, but it could work. Just a suggestion, and you could probably get one fairly cheap.

re: Traveling with longboards
I have ridden United Airlines 3 times recently and was able to easily take my board on every time. I even tied two of my boards together and carried them onto the plane.

Yo to get that sticker off you can use a little bit of lighter fluid and your fingernail it should come off easy with the fluid. I used it on my bass a few times. I'm not sure if it will harm the clearcoat, but it didn't hurt my bass so your deck should be fine. You just gotta wipe it down with a moist paper towel afterwards and it should be all good.

re: Traveling with longboards
hey guys, if we travel internationally should I take the trucks+wheels off my deck and stick those in my suitcase or should I just leave it together and hope it makes it on as a carry-on. Also, will they allow me to leave my skate-tool in my luggage?

re: Traveling with longboards
@kill77 check my post on the first page of this thread + check with the airline you're flying. Had a counter agent tell me once that TSA wouldn't allow me to bring it on but it's not on their website as a prohibited item and TSA has never given me any problems.

re: Traveling with longboards
Hey guys... Ive read the whole thread and im wondering, Im in Australia atm and wants to buy a longboard, so has anyone traveled with longboard with the Etihad Airways?
If you have, did you bring the board as carry-on or did you have to turn in it as "special-luggage" or "extra luggage", if extra luggage, did they charge any extra money? - how much?
Also, im changing plane in Belgium, Brussels Airlines. Anyone had troubles there?
Im sure if i have to turn it in as extra luggage it will go all the way to my departure point, but i need to be sure if i would get it as carry-on from Australia to Belgium.
Flying from Belgium to Sweden btw.
Thanks in advance.

re: Traveling with longboards
Walk in with your board like you own the place
No one will question you if you act like you know what your doing
Always say, I've traveled with it before
Explain what a longboard is to the sexy (and milfish if your lucky like me) flight attendants
Say your a badass racer touring "x" (replace with destination)
I posted my story a while back, but ill post it again.
I have a 43 inch drop deck race board < kittens on it
Part 1 - check in
Alaska Air from orange county ca to seattle
Walked in to the airport like I owned the place.
Carried (not rode) my board through the terminal.
Flirted with the cute check-in girl behind the counter.
Let her spin the wheels (she wanted to do that)
Got my ticket with her phone # on it!
Part 2 - tsa security
I get in the line for security and the guy who looks at your licence and ticket asked me "what is that thang?"
I was like "its a racing skateboard for going down hills"
He was like "damn that things cool! Have a nice trip in seattle"
The large black woman running the xray machine said "my son skateboards, but I ain't never seen one like that"
Once again act relaxed and like your the ****
It passed through the machine, I got my phone and shoes and went to find my gate.
Part 3 - the terminal
I go to find my gate and find out my flight has been delayed for 2 hours.
I was like "f*** that" but turns out it wasn't so bad.
After getting on the plane, I put my longboard in overhead bin, wheels up so people can put more stuff on top of it and sat down in my seat to enjoy the ride. Ready to text the hot chick behind the counter who gave me her #.
Just act like you've done it all before and your good.

re: Traveling with longboards
Yeah, Alaska doesn't seem to mind, but some airlines just don't let you, period. It really does depend on who is at the check in counter and the gate. On the way to Australia, the lady at the counter on the second flight said nothing, but the one at the gate made me check it. TSA doesn't care, and is usually interested in it.

The hot flight attendants at alaska seem to like long, hard pieces of wood and giving out their phone #'s lol
One night stands in the corporate airline hotel aren't the greatest..but the beds sure are comfy

Vaulting poles may be transported as checked baggage for a fixed charge of $50.00 each way. Rigid covers or containers cannot be used to transport them.
bawhaha how often do you think they encounter that one

re: Traveling with longboards
Anyone carry a skateboard on Frontier lately? I'm planning to carry on a backpack with a skateboard deck strapped to it and having a 36" longboard deck in hand.

I just did last week , as long as neither have a biohazard sticker on them you are fine
they just shove the longboard in the overhead storage above peoples luggage
the backpack may be a problem if it cant fit underneath the seat, you're probably fine tho
