    Default Dancer grip

I know the general consensus here is that Edger and Vicious are the best types of grip tape.

However, I was wondering if it is a good idea to use an extremely grippy grip on a dancer. Would you need that much grip? Or would it be better to use a weaker brand to allow you to move around more easily. (These questions for a no concave, minimal camber board)

Weaker, Vicious is just gonna make your feet stick man. I'm a dancer too, I prefer very little grip. Make a nice design out of weaker grip - you don't need to grip like a DHer.

    What board you got?

Thanks, I thought that'd be the case

I'm currently in the process of building one - early stages, but I'm trying to plan in advance

It all depends on what kind of dancing you're doing, weak grip for cross-steps, or vicious for nose manuals and what-not.

But myself I have weak grip-tape.

That could certainly work, sounds like a very good idea.

I'm guessing that is the idea behind the way Loki applies the grip to his dancers. It's integrated into the finish, and gets progressively more "grippy" as you move towards the nose/tail.

That effect is much easier to achieve when the grip is applied in that manner... but you could always tooth the ends and kinda hatch the grip tapes...

That could work, or you could get vicious from tip-to-tip, then maybe grind the middle down with a newspaper.

Yep, never on my board though, a friend asked me to make their grip tape not-so-grippy once, and I just took a wad of newspaper to the grip tape.

I like the idea of putting a weaker type - Jessup - on the platform and putting Vicious or Edger on the nose/tail, then try and make it look good with some kind of designs

    Thanks all.

sorry to revive an old thread, but how exactly did you do this? you just rubbed the newspaper on the griptape? this works? or would sandpaper work better?

i want to do this for my vicious grip too, I don't want my dervish to be too grippy, but it was Vicious griptape that I had lying around and I already had my Graphic Designer friend cut out an awesome design for me.

should I sand the grip before or after applying it to the board? im thinking that if its already on the board as I sand, at least i can get a feel of the level of grippiness as I can jump on the board and do some cross steps every so often. but on the other hand, like i said there are some design cutouts...is there a possibility of the grip adhesive giving way as I rub with the newspaper?

i love the idea of the board being progressivly grippier at the nose and tail.

What I did in the case of what I referred to in this thread is the board was gripped, and I just rubbed some newspaper along the wheelbase but left the outer edges of it grippy. It's a really simple process that could really only take a few minutes. And to the griptape adhesive giving way; Vicious adhesive is really grippy IME (it's designed to fit on top of old griptape), so I doubt it will come off while "sanding".
