    Question Inlay Colored Griptape?

Hi there, I'm new to this site, etc...but not new to longboarding! I just picked up a Landyachtz Urban Assault for my husband for our one year wedding anniversary (it's got Randal DH's and 83mm Flywheels with Khiro wedged risers and Bones Reds bearings, in case anyone cares to know.) Now to the point:

I want to personalize it because I feel bad for not getting him, say, a watch with an inscription of something sappy, etc. written on it, etc. (Not!) Both our names start with K and i wanted to make a thing in the deck with colored griptape with a K and another K going backwards for symmetry and/or an 8|2|8 (wedding date). But I'm assuming that layering griptape will just come off. Is the only way to do this to razorblade a stencil out, peel out the black griptape, and lay in the new stuff? I doubt my ability to not eff up the deck.

You can paint whatever you want on the top of the deck and then put clear grip tape on it
If you go fast enough, you never have to look back.

You could take the existing grip off and then get new black and colored tapes, cut out your logo on the colored and then, as long as it really is symmetrical, set that on the back of the black and trace it on then razorblade it out. Then it should fit perfect?

You could do it on the bottom, assuming there's no art. (even if there is, you could find a spot where there's a solid color or something)

I'd suggest lightly routing it with a dremel or something. You might need to take it to an inscriptionist, they might have more experience with wood.

    Then get it (re-)lacquered.

OR if you're dedicated on the griptape thing, you can spray/dab a stencil on. Would last until he needed to get new grip.

my suggestion would be to fold a piece of grip in half and then draw a k on the edge and then cut it out still folded in half and when you unfold it you have two perfect k's that face each other. and you could just cut out 2 8's 2 slashes and 1 2 and then put them all together on the rear extended kick of the board. btw you sound like you know a lot about long boards.

You're right about the folding and the placement. The kick would be the perfect place for this stuff. Good call!
