If you're looking for an alternative to snowboarding, have you looked at freeboards? They have a central caster wheel like a shopping trolley, so you can spin 360 degrees just like a snowboard. And they have outer wheels to simulate the edge of a board. I've not ridden one but I'm sure someone n here has.

I don't know which one would be better for me. I'm 6' and 135 pounds, and I mostly like to carve and cruise and a little bit of sliding and some other trick type things. Can someone help me out with this?
Look into revenge trucks for that... Highly recommended

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
How much are you willing to pay? $300
What kind of riding are you looking to do? Mainly using the board to get around campus. There are no hills but I'll probably use it off campus as well. So mainly street riding with a little bit of hill riding as well.
Are there any shipping concerns (AKA the company is based in Cali and you live in Siberia, etc)? Shipping is not a concern.
How much do you weigh? 160-165lbs
How tall are you? 6,1''
Hopefully you guys can help me pick out a board setup.

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
hello i have a riot by never summer and im pretty new at longboarding anyone have any suggestions to make this board better or should i trade in for an apex 37?

guitartaquito:
what are you intending on making better? what setup do you have on it? i dont think you should rush to get the apex it's a little overrated.

personally i like something really low for commuting. its easy to push. i have an ozmade board that is kinda like the landyatchz chinook. that forward rake in front makes it such a nice freeride board and easy to push too. although im not sure if you'd want a smaller board to bring to campus. maybe look at the drop hammer too?

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
hey i was wondering is the terrpain good for just riding and enjoying it and if i should upgrade the wheels to 3dm 80a's
-
Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
I had an original derringer for awhile and they are pretty fun boards to just carve and cruise around. So i reckon the terrapin should be the same. although their trucks take a little bit more maintenance than conventional trucks.
do original boards still come stock with kryptos? if they do then yes definitely upgrade your wheels.

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
okay and how hard is it to maintain the trucks like what do i have to do?supplies?
are 3dm's alright?
-
Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
they're definitely better than the kryptos. well, you just need some grease for the white cams on the trucks cause they get really squeeky and creaky. might have to grease them out every 2 weeks or so. also, look for some star washers for your kingpin cause they have a tendency to get loose easily. just search around silverfish plenty of threads talking about the maintenance of the trucks

Re: Path 37 Original or Flexdex Mantis
I like the Sector 9 Sand Wedge. It's a good length for downhill and comes with Gullwing Sidewinder trucks which are good for carving. The best of both worlds.SF073-C Sector 9 Sand Wedge 38.5 w/ Drop Through Flush Mount Sidewinders Longboard Skateboard Detail Page

PS.
I've been looking at the Loaded Dervish (have heard good things about it.) Can anyone tell me about this board/their experiences with it??
If you are looking to do tricks as well as downhill skating, I would suggest something with a kicktail and not too long. You might want to check out the Sector 9 Channel 9 board. Hope this helps in your search.
