Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
original trucks are more stable than sidewinders when you have the medium and tight springs on them.. sidewinders, when you break the bushings in become just as uncontrollable as original trucks. The only way you can have stability with sidewinders downhill is if you tighten them up but then you lose your carving ability......
Get s8s on like a custom 35 or sumthin or maybe a path 37 with the medium or tight springs...... this wil give you carving power and also with stability when bombing hills

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
Hey, I've seen a lot of the other answers here but I'm kind of getting overwhelmed by all the info. So I figured I'd give this a shot.
I've been riding a skateboard for about two years. I never did any tricks at all- just used it to get around. But I live in the city, so a longboard became a better choice because of all the construction, cracks, etc. I was/still am broke so I just picked up some 7" trucks, 1/2" risers, and 72mm wheels and have been riding that. But I'm still tossing the idea around of actually shelling out the cash for a real longboard. I know nothing about them (or skateboarding really- it was just a cheap, easy way to get around and stay fit) but the more I see longboards and hear about how smooth the ride is, the more I want one.
I'm about 5'8 and weigh probably 198 or a bit under. I'm looking for a board that is good for transport but that I could maybe pull a few tricks on. Like curb hopping and shuvits. I'm not really interested in bombing.
If you can help, I would definitely appreciate it.

I'm looking for a board that's a good carver/okay for getting around, but I'd like it to be unique. I've been looking at a small company called Restless Boards, and I was wondering if someone could tell me more about that company, or suggest a different company where I could find the board I'm looking for.

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
I've had a 36" longboard for a while and it's been pretty great for campus cruising, but it was just a hassle carrying it around to classes along with my books and backpack. I've been looking into something smaller and lighter. So I was just wondering if anyone had any opinions on the 26" Arbor Pocket Rocket for someone who's 5' 100lbs?

I am also an intermediate longboarder. Been skating for a solid year and working on tricks for about 4 months. As soon as i got into longboarding i tried a few sector 9s and a loaded dervish. The dervish blew all the other boards ive tried outa the water so i shelled out the cash and bought one. Its been a great board to work with. It cuts on a dime has a nice flew as long as u get the right flex ive tried both flex one and flex two. I weigh about 200lbs and am about 5'10 i ride a flex one and wheni jump on it ai can hit the ground "did come wiht some working it in". IVe also tried out the vangaurd recently and found it to be a nice board. I didnt really get to try to much on it. I actualyl considered the Evo when looking to buy but i wanted to do shovits and dancing and with its style it didnt look to me like it would work out for that. I and totally behind loaded i think if you have the cash to buy a dervish or a vangaurd either would suit you well. GL finding the right board.

when you say cruise for a while without having to kick thats up to the bearings to control i suggest getting bones super swiss, sector 9 ceramic abec 9s, or if ur willing to pay bones ceramics and theres alot of nice stable cheap boards at bustinboards.com or i strongly recommend loadedboards.com but theres alot more any others want to comment?

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
I'm a complete newbie, so please go easy on me here...
So I'm looking to build a complete board and my friend is building the actual board for me (about a 48" dervish style I believe, sort of a banana shape?) and so I'm looking for advice for choices on what to buy for trucks/wheels/bearings:
I'm willing to put as much money that will get me a great board.
I'm looking to cruise down streets as a mode of transportation, but also for learning tricks like cross-stepping, etc.
No concerns on shipping, however it would be best if I could get it all from one shop to bring down shipping costs. Daddie's Board Shop in Portland, OR is close to my town so probably would be the better place to order from if possible.
I weigh 125 lbs. and according to every male in my immediate and extended family, I will stay that way until the moment I turn 35.
5'8"-5'9"
I've been riding on my friend's project dancing board (a 57" rectangle whose trucks are about 6" from each end) and I love it. The way it feels is fantastic, it has a lot of flex, it goes up onto sidewalks and over bumps like it's nothin', and it is the smoothest ride. After riding on it, riding on another longboard just feels like I'm on a piece of wood with wheels on it, you know what I mean? The only problems I see when I'm on it is the turning radius is not what I'd like (but it's what I expect from a 57"-long board), it flexes a little too much (once again due to the length), and it's too long to fit in my car. So I was looking at different threads and concocted some ideas on the parts I want:
Trucks:
184mm Grizzlies
150mm Paris
Wheels:
75mm Abec11 BigZigs
76mm Gravity Hi-Grade
Bearings:
Bones Super Swiss 6
Daddie's Board Shop Abec 7 - Apparently this got great reviews and I think if I cleaned them regularly, I should be good, correct?
Sector9 Abec 9
Oust Air Moc 9
Which of these should I pick for my longboard? What would you suggest instead?
Thank you for reading this and for all your help. Brand new to longboarding and this site is terrific! Once again, thank you all for helping me out!

My friend is looking to buy his first board. He's a big heavy guy and he's looking for a board to suit his size. He's looking for a nice cruiser and isn't so interested in bombing enormous hills.
Any suggestions?

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
Sup SL'ers im pretty new to the whole longboarding vibe and have been rocking out on a crappy S9 for the past 5 months, its time to upgrade. I am looking at getting a Loaded Dervish flex 1. I am currently in Vancouver but am moving back to S.A soon so I want to know. What is the vibe, what is a good board for carving/sliding and just messing around on. SO far the Dervish looks like a good bet?

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
Sup, I'm new here.
I don't really know much about longboards, (used to skateboard), so...
I'm a small dude, about 5' 5, and around 100lb
Looking to spend as little as I can, but I don't want a piece of crap. Maybe around $130-$150?
I dunno, what I'll be doing as far as cruising, downhill, or whatever, so is there maybe an all around basic board? 40" or less in length sounds like it would suit me
By the way, I'd like a shape similar to this http://shop.ccs.com/product/model:13...6400&size=8.25
