Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
I'm 14 just got into longboarding and I want a cruiser board that can handle some speed. I'm 5'6" and 98 lbs. I can go up to 175-200 for a board and I just need a deck, the board I got, the Sand Wedge, came with great trucks and I have some 74mm 78a nineball wheels I like. Need some suggestions in bearings, as the Abec 5s I have seem slow. I ride with my friend all the time, and he consistently gets 50 feet away in 30 seconds. Any help is appreciated!

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
Hey, another newbie here needing advice.
I'm looking to get into longboarding coz I love skating, but as it turns out, I really suck at tricks.
I'm 6'1" and just over 12 stone (I dunno what that is in lbs or kg). At the moment I have an old school pig to cruise around on (Powell Peralta - Steve Steadham spade reissue) with Holey trucks and Cadillac wheels.
I want to get a deck that I can start having a little more fun with, but I'm undecided whether to get a reasonable all round deck so I can try everything and see what I like/am good at, something more specific so I can learn to slide or bomb, or possibly even get a Freebord. I have a few big hills near my house and I could just keep using my pig to get around, but I wouldnt mind learning to pump and slide properly.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should get? I can spend upto about £180 if necessary, but I'd rather stay lower than that if possible (but like I said, I already have Holey trucks so I could just transfer them).
Thanks,
Jack

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
I'm a noob too, never been into any kind of skating, but i just met this guy a couple of weeks ago who is pretty big on longboarding, and i would reall like to get my first board. I snowboard, and have surfed before, so i wont really have a problem with riding it, plus i have ridden his a couple time.
How much are you willing to pay?
anywhere up too 275 for a complete board, trucks, wheels, and everything neede
What kind of riding are you looking to do?
I would like to most likely just cruise, but i still wanna be able to go somewhat fast. And i think it would be cool to learn to dance, or whatever you guys call it. like cross stepping and such.
Are there any shipping concerns (AKA the company is based in Cali and you live in Siberia, etc)?
nope. I live in washington state.
How much do you weigh?
140lbs
How tall are you?
5' 10"
Other than that, go on with your business with what whatever else you have to say (ride high/low, flexy/stiff, fast/slow, slidable/not, etc).
^^no idea about any of this stuff, like what would be right for me, u guess it would be based off what riding i want to do, and length of the board isnt an issue.
Thanks for the help,
Tyler Johnson.

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
Threre are tons of boards out there man. I'd say check out a Landyachtz drop carve. Sounds like your application and is a really good starting point. It's easy to maneuver, can take light to medium hills (with experience), and pretty easy to learn to slide on.

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
First off 12 stone is 168 Ibs.
and i have a question. ive been looking at a sector 9 bamboo burleigh. i read somewhere that its a five ply bamboo deck. now i dont think that would be enough for me. i need a beginning board and im 6 foot 2 and 260 lbs( or 21 stone roughly).

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
OK, so a while back i busted a one of my of revenges and while they were sending me out a new truck i went to a local shop and picked up a pair of 180mm seismic's so i could go on a scheduled skate trip. Eventually I got the truck in the mail and ive had a pair of seismics laying around for the past 2 years. Ive been getting the itch to throw them on a deck and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what they'd throw them on (even wheel-wise if you wanna throw a complete suggestion) right now im leaning towards a Landyachtz Bamboo Totem (yeah/no as far as a pintail) only deck im really not interested in is a bustin (i know i see them with the seismics)... thanks:

I'm a tall, heavier guy, so I know I need a stiffer board. WE don't have a skate shop around here how will I know if the board will be stiff enough?
I weigh about 6'2" 250 lbs btw. (if that helps)

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
Ok so i am new to longboarding and have been borrowing a friends sector 9 bamboo series and its fun to ride but i dont have anything to compare it to. i LOVE going downhill, 30-40mph, but his board gets a lot of wobble so i guess im looking for a good stable down hill board but something i can still ride on sidewalks class to class without having to get of and pick up the board to turn it. im 6 feel 1 inch and i weigh 150 lbs. i am willing to spend about 260 on a board

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
HELP! im in transition from riding a, what seems to be ancient world industries skateboard with some not-so good(to put it kindly) wheels trucks and barrings on it. when i was young i used to be into all the tricks and whatnot, but now im just lookin for a decent board i can ride around on, but still get a little crazy and learn some coleman slides on! The BIG problem is, is that im a poor college student, in north-western Ohio (riding season for boards is short). im 6'4" and about 250 lbs but dont let that deceive you, i love to ride, and im not too bad =). so besides all that nonsense, heres my question. with everything listed above, is this board i found on ebay decent? i like the style, but im not sure about the intangibles. is it a good beginners board for sliding and carving? are the wheels good/bad? trucks? durability for my size? im not into the technical stuff, and ive read alot, but i still am not sure and want an opinon of someone that knows whats up. Thanks for all the help guys!!!!!

i'd vote no. save up to get something better- you'll be happier in the long run.
check out sites like Altrec for good deals on basic longboards, or look to get a Kracked Skulls complete.
