Hey guys, im new to boarding, but Ive ridden a few of my friends boards and I'd appreciate some advice on what to buy.

Im looking for a board to cruise on at school and bomb a few hills. I live in a town perfect for longboarding, and at school my house is on top of a pretty sick hill. I rode my friends sector 9 38'' bamboo, and a 47 inch gravity last night. The sector 9 was pretty nice, The 47in felt a little long for me. Im looking for something nice in the 40 or 42 in range that will last.

Im 6ft, 170 lbs, im trying to keep my budget under 200$

ok , so i want to buy a longboard but i dont know what to get

I know these are a pain in the ass, but please bear with me.

I'm completely new to boarding in general, surf/short/long whatever. I'd love to get into longboarding, but I don't know anything about it, so I'm not sure where to start, specifically board-wise.

Budget - $200 or so, but it's pretty flexible. I'd rather not go all-out for my first board if I don't have to.

I'm not a fan of tricks or anything like that, but rather just riding the thing. I'll be mostly riding on campus or around town, not in skate parks, but there are some decently steep hills nearby that I'd like to try out eventually. That said, I'm not a fan of huge speeds.

Shipping's not an issue, though if possible I want to drive out and test the board; I live near Hicksville, Long Island (NY).

I'm 6'1" and weigh about 180.

Two things, though: I hate designs on the board (it's alright on the bottom, I guess, but I don't like those either). I'm also not really a fan of the cutaway shape, preferring the pintail. I'll go with cutaway if it's really that much better for sharp turns, though (and this isn't that important anyway, feel free to ignore it). As I said, I'm more of a casual rider.

I have similar questions as the guy before me. I want a longboard, I've been riding a sector 9. Dunno what kind. My friend ripped off the grip tape, sanded down the board and changed the trucks and wheels on it. I know very little of longboards, but I'm looking to expand my knowledge and to board more.

I have done some research and I want a board for around my college campus in Texas so it is relatively flat there, however over breaks and summer I live in California with lots of hills so I want a board for hills when needs be, but mainly just getting around campus. So I was thinking of a carving board, although I have taken a liking to the downhill boards. But I was mainly looking at a carving board nearing 40 to 45 inches long. The companies I have checked out are comet, arbor, descent, earthwing, G&S, flexdex, gfh, landyachtz, never summer, rayne, surfone, and sector 9. Again I think a carving board nearing 40 inches to 45 inches is most preferable for my situation, but if there is a type of board that is better that would be more helpful. If I am wrong in my assumptions just let me know. Thanks for your help.

oh and I am 5' 9" and weight 150. Dunno if that helps. I have also tried shorter boards and I don't tend to like them as much as longer ones. I also prefer stiffer boards. The sector 9 board I am riding is very flexible and I guess I got to get used to it, but I have ridden my friends bamboo and I like that more because it is more rigid. What is better. Flexible or rigid? Again any advice is great.

hey i tried a couple friends boards recently and loved it. so now I'm looking at getting my own. I'm looking to cruise around, but have lots of hills and like carving and down hill to so i guess an all around board really is what im looking for. I need to keep it pretty cheap (under $200) but don't want crap either. I'm 6'5 and 160. I was looking at maybe a kracked skull board but really would just like to know what people would recommend for what I described above. Thanks!

concave helps to keep your feet in the position you want them through turns, and it really helps with responsiveness, no it is not required, the insect firefly has no concave, but a really good grip tape, so that is what you need.

hehe i have a homemade deck with no concave and no griptape and i dh on it using shoes with no grip so yeah

First of all awesome thread, awesome forum

So guys im pretty much a skating newb, and looking to get a board. Mainly, im going to be using it for transportation on my campus. i really doubt i'll do any dh stuff, but you never know. Please help me decide if a long board is right for me!

heres some basic info:

• looking for a smooth ride, easy to handle
• maybe the occasional ollie

I'm very much a newbie myself, but I am very happy with the board I purchased (don't have much to campare to however) I picked up the Sector 9 bamboo Uluwatu. It's pretty long, but very smooth and easy to ride. My big concern is I live in San Clemente, CA where there lots of rolling hills, and the board picks up speed fast! I am not that confident yet. If you're going to ask about what board to get, here's some stuff that'll help us guide you:

How much are you willing to pay?
What kind of riding are you looking to do?
Are there any shipping concerns (AKA the company is based in Cali and you live in Siberia, etc)?
How much do you weigh?
How tall are you?
Other than that, go on with your business with what whatever else you have to say (ride high/low, flexy/stiff, fast/slow, slidable/not, are you female and single, etc).

yea well da scimitar is a bomb for its price. Here's the link to it, but make sure ur click the option for the scimitar. I just got mine through mail today and its cool for a first board. I am looking to buy a longboard. I have seen a few online that i like.
I am 6'4'' and 145lbs (no laughing)
I would mostly use it for riding around town on sidewalks or roads and sometimes hit the hills
I would like a long board i think because i'm tall but i no almost nothing
Price range of $200
I was looking at the Barfoot Pintail(47), Gravity EdEconomy(57), Gravity Carve(46) and the Sector 9 bamboo Uluwatu but am open to any opinions.

Hi I'm looking at gettin a longboard soon for transportation around my school campus (i have a car but don't like wasting my gas) this is just the main purpose for the longboard but I'd like to be able to do some downhill and some carving too if i can (nothing too serious yet cuz I'm kinda new at the whole longboarding/skateboarding thing). I'd also prefer a longer board in general (sometimes my balance isn't the best)

I'm about 6' and weigh about 240 lbs but I am goin on a strict diet plan/exercise program soon so i'll b losing weight (so i'd like to still be able 2 use the board when i do!)

other than that my budget is basically unlimited, and the one board I've looked at mostly right now is the Landyacthz Con Thug. is that a good choice or no?? Thanks for the help!

Hey man, I totally checked out these forums before jumping onto the longboard scene and I found that the Landyatchz Spud came highly recommended.

That's the one that I picked up and I love it. It's a low rider so pumping and foot braking is a breeze. The only downside is that there is no kickflip, but it still turns great.

I'm rocking the 83mm lime green flywheels so I get a lot of compliments.

It's also 3 miles from the bus stop to my office and the Bones Swiss bearings make it effortless.

Don't buy anything without seriously checking into this easy beginning board.
