You have absolutely no shortage of great options for boards. Here's a list of a few to get you started.
I got a Bustin Complex as my first board, and it has served me well. The shape is very unique and seems to make it more obvious were your feet go. I have done almost all forms of riding on it and it has excelled. Any and all of those boards will serve you well. Remember to wear your helmet and relax. Being tense will make you fall. Other than that go ride!
Also it is the hill and gravity that make you "fast" not the board so move progressively up the hill till you can take it with confidence.
i was impatient and bought a s9 board but thanks for replying gives me some ideas for my next board

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
Hello, I'm looking for a complete setup that will be 60% turning, but 40% hills in case I find some( i guess that would be all around?). This will be my first longboard, so under 200 is my price range. I am 6'1 weighing in at 210, and would like a deck with a slight flex in it, but nothing major. I was looking at the Kracked skulls scimitar, which looks pretty sweet, but I am not sure since i have never stood on it, how much does this generally matter when buying a deck? and how do i know how much flex is in the scimitar? if you have any opinions or suggestions at all i would love to hear from you. thanks!

Hey man if you're just starting out a Kracked Skulls Scimitar would be a great inexpensive board, either that or the Earthwing Superglider. Both are great boards that are right in between stiff and flexy- perfect for cruising and getting accustomed to the slopes.

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
Hello, I am still looking for my first longboard(see my previous post) and have come across the Bustin Complex. I put together a potential setup on Bustin's website with the 187mm Gullwing trucks listed and the Boca 66mm wheels. It says that setup would be a sharp turner and behave moderate at speed, just what I wanted. All of this seems to good to be true, so I am still open to suggestions of different setups and reasons why not to purchase. Thanks for reading.

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
Yo!
I'm new here, so I welcome myself!
I'm 6'2 and weigh a huge 267lbs. Now the weight placement is even (a bit muscular), but I don't know if that has an impact on longboarding. Which board would be a good place for me to start. Just for cruising though.
Also, I looked up some shlongboards, and they seem like a great idea. I have a 7.5 wide board. Which trucks would be good for me?
Thanks in advance!

yo the Descent Beech Board is what i started out with. the deck style is a lot like a dervish and it handles pretty nice. i got a 42" deck with monster 217mm Tracker Darts ( I would recommend Randell II for starters), some nice Abec11 ZigZag 70mm wheels, and reds bearings. my setup was about $195 bucks and may seem a bit pricey but ( with boards especially) you pay for quality. again this is a good set for a beginner when you get more advanced switch over to a gravity or a loaded. hope this helps and good luck

sup dude, when you pick a board you must go by how it feels to you because after all you will be on it more than anyone else. Im 6'3'' 216lb and i have a KS Scimitar and i love it. my girlfriend got it for me last year and its still going strong. the only thing is KS decks have a tenancy to get stress fractures. we are big guys and its a bit hard to find a good board but if your looking for a good "all around" board for cheap KS boards are defiantly the way to go. hope this helps. Cheers

Re: Longboard Buyers Guide. >>Newbie Resource Guide<<
Hey guys,
I want to first off thank you guys or this guide, I was totally clueless before, and now I at least have a basic understanding. The problem is I still have no idea what kind of board would be good for me.
Cost isn't too big of a factor, I would however prefer the under 200 dollar range for all the parts.
As for the ride, I want to be able to maneuver around town as easily as possible but I still want to be able to take my board downhill and carve a little. (as my skills progresses)
Shipping really isn't an issue, since I live in the US. but I don't know any good sites to order from.
I am 5'8'' and 185lbs.
