if ur looking 4 a landy for dh, the evo is a good solid beginner board. setup with bears and bigzigs 75 mm or flys
I'm brand new to all this and I want to get a board with some bear trucks, Does it matter that the 1052's have 10mm axles, like does that restrict certan bearings?

Yes, you cant use most standard bearings

can any one tell me the main reason for concaving the center of a board on a longboard or short cruiser is it realy needed
concave helps to keep your feet in the position you want them through turns, and it really helps with responsiveness, no it is not required, the insect firefly has no concave, but a really good grip tape, so that is what you need.

in addition to what n88 said, concave also adds a little more rigidity to the board. The unnecessary explanation for why this occurs; curving the board laterally increases the moment of inertia across its cross section which in effect spreads the stress due to pure bending across a greater area...honestly though, its mostly so you can feel the board under you better and allow you to get greater leverage in cornering. you can feel the difference between boards of different concaves but the material makes alot more difference.
I read the article and it was really well helpful but I'm still a bit lost. I just started longboarding a couple days ago and I would appreciate advice on what kind of board i should start out with.
I weigh 250
I'm 6'3"
the board would be for pretty much cruising and a little bit of speed boarding
thanks for readin this.
wow, a really valuable read! i have 3 skateboards, 2 snowboards but only one longboard and i beginning to think i had better get another!
now onto another comment, this readup is great for beginning boarders, but what about newbies to the forum? Most groups seem pretty tight knit, is there a way where newcomers can get to know the forums? maybe im just shy :P

just read around, you'll find your way around. learn to search, repeating questions pisses certain people off. don';t argue. respectful disagreements go a long way.
just stick around, have fun. if you have fun and be nice, it'll reciprocate.

So guys im pretty much a skating newb, and looking to get a board. Mainly, im going to be using it for transportation on my campus. i really doubt i'll do any dh stuff, but you never know. Please help me decide if a long board is right for me!
hey im looking for my 2nd longboard...just for cruising the streets, getting around town, having fun
currently have 34 inch sector 9 rhythm, but want something a bit flatter . trying to decide between sector nine mini/ladera mini and getting a 39 to 46 inch board ... im 5 feet and 120 lbs.. please help if you can
I'm a total newbie when it comes to longboarding. The jist is I tried longboarding on my friend's board, who happens to be 6 ft tall and 180 pounds, so the board was a little stiff for my 5'1, 105 pound body; thus, I need something a little more suited for my size. I would like to be able to commute from home to work, but also have a board that I can eventually, once experienced enough, carve hills with and all that fun stuff. So if any of you can help a sista out that would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
This list is far from complete. And as your ride you'll find what it is you like/dislike in a board and will probably work out the upgrades/cross-grades that will give you the ride you want.
