    Default Bearing problem

My bearings will not spin whatsoever. I've had this problem before and normally i can just force them to spin a little and then they start working pretty well but with these i can't even force them. Does anyone have any ideas how i can salvage them. Also, the caps are wierd and don't come off.

Did you ride with the in the rain? Do you use speedrings and spacers?

If you did ride in the rain, then they rusted and seized most likely. If you don't use speedrings and spacers, then you just screwed your bearings from everyday use.

it's not worth the work required to save em, not when you can get reds for $15-20 from your local shop and MHS bearings for $10 from milehighskates

He speaks the truth. Just get new ones, unless you are jobless and without money.

In which case you have all the time in the world to do something. First I soak them in Mineral Spirits (NOT MINERAL OIL) which is just a type of paint remover I pound them into a cloth or paper towl and try to get the gunk out. I then try to spin them. Winse wash repeat. After you do this for awhile I put them into rubbing alcohol and do the same thing.

See if that gets them to move.

    Are these shielded or sealed?

or... just do the work required to save them. any money saved worth the work...

i have been riding my daddies board shop bearings since i got them last september. i rode them through water, snow, and slush all winter long every day to class in rochester, ny (right up there near buffalo).

i've cleaned them twice, and theyve seized 4 times. they spin about 5-10 seconds shorter than my mhs bearings. just ride them, and if you want them spinning like new ride them until they spin then clean and lube them.

Take them apart, discard all parts that look rusty or deformed, save in a parts drawer.

    Otherwise, toss them out.

I figured out a pretty good way to unstick seized bearings. I just took a vice grip and got it tight around the center ring, then i took another vice grip and put around the outer ring in a perpindicular plane. Ok i know that was a horrible explanation. I'll post a pic

Gearings seize for a reason.. they're all blowed up is the reason.

Once they are pitted, they will never roll smooth again, creating heat and possible blowin' apart when your bombing.. Just spend the 10 dollars and replace them

Try yelling at em. That helps.

Iv had the same problem. Theres probably some rust or dirt lodged between the ball, just soak them in metho or something that will clean them well and give them a spray and they should work again.

Went ta go for a little cruise on the S9 last night and next thing i feel this kind of dragging feeling in the board, then i noticed one of the back wheels wouldn't spin properly so i took off the wheel and had a look at the bearing and like 4 of the little balls were all mashed up inside it. Is this a sign of #### bearings or is this just general wear and tear??
Ive had this board for bout 4 months by the way.

haha yea i probly went a little over board for mediocre bearings but I soaked them in isopropyl and then cleaned them with try flow and they work fine. One time my friend used his reds in the rain and they stopped so he just gave em to me for free and i cleaned them up and now they're my fastest bearings. Faster than my month old reds

Instead of forcing bearings to spin, soak them first in mineral spirits. Breaking them loose and scratching the races up with tools risk potentially hazardous bearing failure for the rider. I personally use Brakes Parts Cleaner. I have to clean my bearings every time I ride. Sand is a killer... so is water, what's worst is both combined. I try not to ride through them but, a lot of times, it's just not worth skating on the side walks here.

When that #### dries up, it turns to a light gray sand matches the color of the sidewalk. When I get home each time I skate, I spin my wheels and just hear the grit ticking and grinding in my bearings. I hate it.

I'm anal about bearing care. So is my uncle. He still has bearings for his roller skates that date back to the late 70s and they all still spin like a champ. This was pre-ABEC.
