Sector 9 Race, why is it so good?

I was wondering why the Sector 9 Race is so good and why it is not sold to the public. Correct me if I am wrong, but the concave and the type of board is similar to the Voodoo, right? Why not get the Voodoo?

I am in the market for a new board and was wondering if this would be good. (just sold my heavy evo, ughh)

I appreciate your help, and I had searched before making this to see if this was discussed and couldn't find anything. IF there is another thread that does talk about it, please link it in here and we can end this thread.

From what I've heard S9 didn't want to sell it to the public (ie not their team) for just a little while to build the hype machine to epic proportions, but then they waited too long and people got pissed and ended up getting other topmounts instead. It's basically a chopped Bomb Hills or Goddess. If you want one, buy Tom's Goddess and chop it up! Then you're more dagger-like if you do that.

I'm no top mount enthusiast, and today was my first time doing any DH on one. I borrowed my friends s9 race and went into the mts. Awesome concave, not the same as the voodoo xl that ive ridden, but its fairly steep and less like the radial concave thats on the pagan or voodoo. I felt very comfortable on this top mount, cornering at 30, pendys just below 40, and just tons of stability.

I wish I could give you some reason that this board way better than other top mounts, but Im not convinced it is. It is a sick board, a fairly unique one to have, and well made, but I think some people just want it because its fairly rare and has an almost OG quality to it.

And as for the voodoo question, the race doesnt have rocker, so that could be a factor to some people.

Race deck concave and shape is top notch for a topmount IMO. The widths coupled with the concave feels awesome to me, and is great for everything. This is for the 42 inch race deck. The 38inch race deck isnt the right size i dont think, and just doesnt have what the 42 has.

imo - concave is very close or the same as a bomb hills, only diff is the nose and tail cutouts and wheel wells. probably come from the same blank. yeah it was free.

If i were you, I'd get a Sector 9 "hills" board for $69 (awesome deal), then chop it to the length/shape you want. if you want it to look like the race, copy that shape and cut it to either 38" or 42". Do a good job and people would have a very hard time telling the difference

but really, it's a sick deal with a little bit of work. go for it

perfect concave, lots of room, solid....it just feels right in every way
it's my favorite board.
and the "rarity" of it does nothing for me. I own and have owned "rarer" boards, but it means nothing.
The 42" Sector 9 Race is simply the best topmount out there for me

S9 Race is a solid board, best feeling concave imo and great footspace all around.
And the look of it is just the illest, sick graphics and killer shape. Plus havin a board that just about everyone wants makes owning one all the better.

Well they're pressed out of the same mold, so they essentially have the same concave...

So the Dregs Alpine=Race=Bomb Hills (just different shapes)

I'm gonna get a topmount DH board because my friend and i were riding, he borrowed me evo, and I rode my Ladera Ripper, and I remembered how fun that little thing is. But I use it for getting to school. and it was a little squirmy going about 23mph. and then he headed down to the skate shop and they had the Hills board there. Same wheelbase as my evo so i imagine it would feel somewhat alkie but being a topmount, I would get the same sensation as my Ladera

So is it worth it?

And if so what should my setup be? Crails? Randal 180's?
