    Default Prevent Wheel Slip?

How can I prevent wheel slip? I was carving pretty hard, when my board just slipped out from underneath me!

I'm using Orangatang In-Heat's on a Loaded Dervish.

You don't. That slipping wheel is called sliding. Learn to control it.

Grippier wheels will not keep you from making mistakes.
    All wheels slide.

Learn to slide, and you'll be gripping harder than you ever thought you could because you're in control.

Besides, when grippy wheels do end up sliding out, it's usually pretty messy.

Otangs slide like a greased up scots man, had exactly the same thing happen to me. Second the Lime BigZigs, such a nice wheel. And when you get the sliding down, mainly just getting used to the grip characteristics of your wheels your be sliding them left right and center....

They're not as bad as you think they are. It's really just a matter of commitment.

I agree; I'm new at this and I'm more scared of sliding out on my setup with 78a Gumballs than a friend's board that has 86a wheels. The softer wheels are more likely to grab on again suddenly and give you matching road rash on your left side. Just push it a little at a time until you get the feel of it.
If you can't hit bottom, wear the sides out.

They were what made me want to begin longboarding, but I procrastinated for forever myself thinking they were way above my level.

It took me 4 hours in a parking lot by myself to get familiar with them. I had drop-through R-II 42's and I was going maybe 15 mhp- easy run-out speed. 42's give a good slow turn angle so you can correct your posture and deep leverage against the wheels. That's what I learned on anyways... ever since I've slid Indies. But I'll stop talking about gear, because that's not what it's really about or where the good learning stoke really comes from.

I can't even tell you how much they've improved my enjoyment I get out of skating. Before I learned I was ALWAYS thinking in a hard carve "Is this it!? Is this the limit I can't tellIdontknowwhattodoifitis!!" and I couldn't carve any harder because it was scary. That sucks, to always hold yourself back out of fear. Now I can rip so hard I can float right over the edge of traction and slide-carve down the hill almost like a Freebord. Or I could if so choose... Grip. Only regular heelside though- I'm still working on regular toeside and switch.

Can you slide with gloves? If so pad up and give stand-up a try!
Or even if you can't you should still try... probably in the rain. You can slide at 3 mph in the rain. When it's raining you have to be sure you keep your weight OVER your board, rather than angled back like you would on dry pavement.

anyways. purple seismic speedvents probably the craziest grippy wheels out there. but as mentioned before any wheel will slide when you push it to its limits. I suggest that you learn standups too with the wheels that you currently have. mostly depends on how brave you are feeling when you decide you want to do standup slides. the more blood you plan to sacrifice the more rewarded you will be. plus get some goddamned pads and gloves!
