Help me find a DH, please
Hello All,
This my first thread and you guys have a great community here! Thank you!
I have been getting into longboarding over the last couple of months and I consider myself to be an intermediate skater at this point. I used to ride a skateboard when I was much younger, and the feel pretty much came right back to me after almost 20 years!
Anyhow, I have grown exhaustive of the SEARCH function (oh...I know the forum protocols for noobs such as myself) so I am now hoping some of you will help with my search.
I primarily only have flats around where I live, but I frequent northern NM quite often so bombing hills is only a drive away. I just purchased an Apex 37 from a member on here with Paris 180s on it for a daily, freeride board.
I'm looking to try out as many boards as I need to figure out "what is me" but also save as much coin as I can. This hobby is nothing like car audio, so accumulating a few boards is no big deal.
After searching around, I know what I want in a board, but don't know what to get. Here is what my criteria is:
40" L, 9-10" W
Preferably flush mount, but drop through would be OK too.
U-concave, with a very stiff feel.
I prefer the (not sure what shape you call it) board to be shaped like the Apex, but does not have to be.
Flat board. NO drop downs like the LY Evo. (I'm on the fence about this. Never ridden one this style, but...)
-Something that the Paris 180s would be great on.
Any suggestions? Pricing isn't really an issue, but I'd like to stay in the $150 range.
Thanks a lot in advance guys!

Re: Help me find a DH, please
welcome to the fish!
well anyway, here's a couple suggestions:
Comet FSM, the 07-08 Rayne Hellcat, Landyachtz drop speed, Loaded Dervish (flex 1), Kracked skulls rapier, etc. The Rayne Nemesis makes a great freeride board, you know...
there are many nice ones made by small private companies. you just need to spend the time to look.
examples:
LongboardLarry - Custom longboards
Bryant Cooper Longboards: Boards
forty2 longboards
Eastside Longboards - Decks
i will be making my own in a couple months too. no website though
good luck finding a board!

Re: Help me find a DH, please
The rayne nemesis is a sweet board. I would also check out a landyachtz drop speed or anything made by madrid. I wouldn't set up an fsm with reverse geometry trucks, indies work so much better.
At the top of a hill at a very rapid speed there's only one place to go.
At the top of a hill at a very high speed there's nowhere to go but down.

Re: Help me find a DH, please
Sherpa has my vote of correctness as well.. The Salt Flat is a great top mount, and due to it's thiness gives a height similar to a flush. It carves nice, is stable at speed and being thin, is easier to push than a ply deck

Re: Help me find a DH, please
has flush mounting, 10 inches wide, around 40 inches long, has cutouts kinda like the apex....
The Pagan (flush) - $139.95 : Comet Skateboards

Re: Help me find a DH, please
Clutch Knuckleduster. I'd say the DeezNutz as well, but you don't want a dropped board.

Re: Help me find a DH, please
I second the Saltflat. It is definitely very stiff with U-concave (i have one). It's 39" long (but has no nose/tail so it makes the most of its room for footroom) and 10" wide with a slight taper near the rear. It's so thin it pretty much is a flushmount. It also has the wheel cut-out that kinda (ish) resemble the apex and the cut-outs are SUUUUPER effective.
EDIT: And it's also less than $150! You can pick one up at Sundaeskates.com for $126. (Well, at least that's how much I paid for it).

I would check out the DH36 or any of the roger bros longboards. They are aluminum which means they are very tough and indestructable. Also, I would really try a drop board if you can. They are very comfortable when you are in you tuck and from what I have seen are very stable. If you are interested in a drop mount board, a freind of mine is selling his DH, and he is located in NM

Re: Help me find a DH, please
Thanks for all the suggestions, guys! It really helps to narrow things down.
I have been eying the Clutch Knuckle, Loki, Pagan, and Nemesis/Hellcat. I REALLY am leaning towards the Loki, but the Pagan really has been making me think twice. The only thing that "scares" me is the fact that a Pagan is a 42", not 40". The extra length really gets to me in a way, because I've have grown to like the smallest board I can ride for certain type of riding.
The teaser videos of the Loki make me feel comfortable enough to take it at speed, and because of the shorter board length, it would be more agile to control and not be too drifty. Hell, I may just have to buy a few boards and sell what I don't want to keep. After all, I am trying to sift through...
The Voodoo XL and Earthwing boards (wider/superglider) are very tempting too.
The Apex will be used ONLY for messing around, and THIS other board I am in search of will be my primary DH board.
So many decisions to make...so many boards...so many names...
Oh...my stats are:
5'11"
180 lbs.
