Converting from hardcore downhill to cruising.
I currently do a lot of downhill, as I live in Pittsburgh, hills hills everywhere~ However, I've recently obtained a 37 inch pintail made from bamboo as a present. I don't have much experience with pintails, I just know they're mainly for general cruising. There aren't many flatspots around here. Can a simple pintail be set up with Randals for intermediate downhill cruising, carving and OCCASIONAL sliding on sidewalk/street or am I expecting too much out of it?
Personal experiences with smaller-ish pintails are welcome.

i ride my flexy 44" FibreFlex pintail on everything.
25-30mph. no problem
carving. sex.
standup sliding. beautiful.
mine is set up with 180s (50*) and barrel reflex bushings (80a and 83a)
just make sure to have a wheelbase thats around 22 inches or more. my WB is 31" i think.

not many flatspots in pissburgh? what hood are you from? there's a nice bike trail that runs from station square to almost into homestead. all along the river and little vehicular traffic to contend with. short distance of road under the 22 street bridge in south side. been checking out the road behind carson street out near the fbi offices. looks nice, slight slope then levels out. right next to this is the bike trail. then on the other side of the mon there is another bike trail that goes back into town. parkway on both sides so you get a little more hydrocarbons on that side of the river but its not too bad as long as its not rush hour. then you can follow the alleg river to the ohio on the north side and ride another bike trail out past the ol' state penitentiary or go north out towards fox chapel. and these are just the bike trails. sorry i digress, again.

Re: Converting from hardcore downhill to cruising.
I regularly take my pins into the 30;s.
There is a reason for the design...they are great carving machines..
They exhibit more torsional flex, so are a bit lazy in carves, but that allows you to kick it out a bit and get Funky!!!

Not many, doesn't mean none. I live in Carrick, and go down to South Side if I just want to cruise.
Also there is a mysterious longboarder in South Side that I keep seeing fleetingly but he's always too fast for my Demonseed to catch up with, I mean, it being a downhill board and all. And I see him like all the time so I want to know he is. D:

if you go with randals clean up the pivit with a file and or sand paper. if you don't your pivot cup bushing will get tore up. i go about 183# and use 83a front and 88a rear bushings. feels really loose but nice for pumping and carving. this is on a scimitar. don't have a pintail.

Well? What do you think of the bike trails and other flat places to skate in Pittsburgh. Still into DH bigtime I see and getting party darn good at it too. Thanks for turning out to be a very good friend Dude. Keep up the extreme sliding too. See you at the bottom of the hill. Peace
