Sector 9 Sunset deck defect
So I’ve been waiting patiently for about a week now for the delivery of a shiny new Sector 9 Bamboo Sunset deck. It finally arrives and I quickly bust out my gullwing chargers and get to work setting everything up.
Firstly the predrilled holes on the board do not line up perfectly with the truck mount. This is curious though at first they only seem slightly off until I try and present my hardware and the rear bolts on both ends will not pass.
Suddenly I notice that when in place over the mounting holes the truck plates appear to be off center. At first I tell myself I’m just going crazy but after a half an hour of careful measurements I discover to my dismay that the mounting holes along with the cutout for the drop through base plate are off center by a full 2.5 millimeters. Is this a normal occurrence? I’ve put together more than 15 boards using the roarockit vacuum press and my measurements have never been off more than half a millimeter.
Firstly, this seems like a pretty catastrophic defect which might lead to some nasty pavement dinners, especially considering the board has a W camber. Am I just being anal here?
Secondly, what should I do about this? Take up the claim with thelongboardstore.com or with Sector 9 directly?

Re: Sector 9 Sunset deck defect
ask thelongboardstore about it because they might have an easier time getting in touch with sector 9 for you and if they don't or are slow about it just get in touch with s9 directly. No need for a board to be misdrilled like that

Re: Sector 9 Sunset deck defect
send pictures to longboardstore and DO NOT RIDE IT, if you ride it that lessens your chances of getting a replacement by a ton
Ask me about my Holesom.

Exactly what I thought. Store is closed at the moment but I'll be giving thelongboardstore.com the first call. Thanks for the Help.

The board hasn't been ridden, I haven't even been able to set it up as you could have guessed. I will go ahead and send them the pictures if they ask for them, but the measurements seem a little incremental to show up in photographs unless I place my rulers and perhaps run a plum line. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Re: Sector 9 Sunset deck defect
Maybe they're just busy. From what I hear S9 stands by their stuff, people on SF say that they've been able to get a new deck from S9 when it starts to delam or get a crack.

Re: Sector 9 Sunset deck defect
i cant see any pics =[.
but if you are to get a new sunset cool. i love mine. make sure you change the gullwing bushings out. if your going the carving route get khiro standards. and bombing then idk lol. i got around 35-40mph on the bushings they came with.
goodluck!

Re: Sector 9 Sunset deck defect
thats an interesting defect...and not in a good way. usually the defects that ive heard with the sunset is that the nose portion is weak and snaps easily. i have a sunset and neither has happened to me. however, i dont do tigerclaws (not that i could anyways) but i do believe you persist in contacting both the store you purchased it from and Sector9 as well.

Re: Sector 9 Sunset deck defect
Update:
So I spoke to Tom again, he was very helpful and completely understood and agreed with me as to manufacturing mistake here. He basically told me I could have anything else of equal value, though I still have to pay the shipping to send the deck out to them; kind of a bummer.

Yea, he told me they ‘didn’t have it in stock’ and that if I still wanted one I would have to wait several weeks, so I imagined as much. I really don’t know what to do at this point. What deck would you suggest I replace this with? I was considering the 9 star though it is three inches shorter which I was wary about. I’m rather considering telling him to send me some Slide Gloves, or Ceramic Bearings or something. I have an Evo shipping in next week for serious DH but I rather wanted this board for free riding. Any suggestions?

Re: Sector 9 Sunset deck defect
theres no need for ceramic bearings. im saying that because you could get more stuff outa him if you didnt get them. and bones redz are perfectly fine for 15$ somewhere else.
id get gloves. ive heard there race forms are sick as hell. try some new trucks out?

Ask for a: RACE DECK RACE DECK RACE DECK.....
A friend of mine got a race deck in a similar situation with a Bomb Hill 2 deck that was damaged. He payed shipping, and the price difference and yeah had to bug them for a while but he eventually got it. Well worth the wait...
