Default Where can I buy kingpins?

Are these only sold at longboarding stores? Or can I get these at a lowes or homedepot as well under a different name?

KIngpins are 3/8" grade 8 fine thread bolts, avaliable at many/most hardware stores.

The washers I like are 5/16" flat washers, look for a washer with the largest diameter but the most snug fitting hole around the kingpin.

Thanks. I noticed the washers I bought were too small and made a small indent in my bushings which I don't want. Flipping the cupped washers over IMO reduced mobility as well.

    Last question.

What are the 8 nuts called that attaches to your board and the truck to keep them together?
What are the nut sizes for the kingpin and the hanger themselves?

    Thanks!

Brand name is nylock...generic term for a plastic insert locking nut. Kingpin is 3/8" fine thread. A short nut version is available though I forget the terminology.

Deck hardware is 10x32 tpi (threads per inch) in appropriate length for your needs.

Preferred hardware is trusshead, or buttonhead.

Do not use "regular" (flathead/countersunk) skate hardware on a composite deck, you risk it pulling through.

On drop through decks it is best to use washers between the deck and nuts...#8 works well.

Grade 8 kingpins (available at Ace Hardware) are called grade 8 kingpins. Your local Ace Hardware grunt will be able to assist you, or it will say grade 8 on the box.
I'm sure you'll identify them with the grunt's assistance.

If it helps, there are 6 threads on a grade 8 kingpins head.

The "r" stands for randal, and is not on every grade 8 kingpin. Only randals.

EDIT: oh damn, you wanted a trusshead pictures. Here you go

Those are trusshead. notice how the bottom of the screw fits flat on the surface of the deck.

Counter sunk, which Brute379 told you not to buy, looks like this.
    Once again, don't buy it

Those are counter sunk. Notice how the bottom of the screw has to dig down into the surface of the deck. Ignore the shortness of the screws, that is irrelevant, it was just a good picture of the screw head.

    you need pictures?

    what you need is this:

two 3/8" grade 8 bolt from 2.5 to 3 inches depending on purpose.

then the largest package of 10/32 panhead bolts, and a box of one hundred 10/32 nylocks

the length i use the most is 1 1/4" 10/32 bolts. fits all my decks that i dont run risers on. scale from there.
write this list down, go to your hardware store, and give it to an employee. they will find this stuff for you if you cant.

i know it can be confusing and stressful to find 1 part in a hardware store. i am lucky enough that when i was a little kid, my dad would take me to OSH like ever saturday. i know the store better than the employees.

    /end thread.

Paris kingpins are not easily changed as they are knurled/splined. but the stock kingpins will fit most double barrel bushing configurations.

If you are running Randal trucks 2.75" is a popular size though not normally found in hadware stores as they tend to offer 2.5" and 3". I tend to order online from MHS for Randal length kingpins.

Thank you guys so much. I really bought the wrong type of screw and bolt for everything haha. I did my research online but only matched the size and not the type of bolt.

I'll be sure to get it right now. Thanks all!

I'd like to point out that grade 8 isn't necessarily mandatory. For most applications, even a grade 2 will be fine; exceptions include DH (where kp failure could be near-fatal), and LDP/slalom (repeated, repeated stress in relatively short periods of time).

That being said, you might as well go with grade 8 if you can get it.

If you are still unsure etc. You can always go to Milehighskates.com They are considered the King Of Kingpin's. They have been stocking KP's for about 5 years. They even have "kits" to tune up your trucks.

But it sounds like you now have a decent handle on it.
