Default ☺How is my Earthwing Superglider setup?☻§

    Hi,
So I finally ordered an Earthwing Superglider. I am probably going to be flatlanding, but light DH will probably happen sooner or later. I'm going to be pumping and cruising most likely.

I AM NOT GOING TO DANCE OR DO ANY TRICKS.

So, on daddiesboardshop, I customized my board as follows:

    Clear Gravity Grip Tape
    Paris 150mm trucks
    70mm Smoker wheels
DBS ABEC 7 bearings with spacers
    1/8" Khiro Large shock pads

How is this setup? Is it good for the things I mentioned above? Thanks!

Oh and please don't hesitate to rate my setup, or suggest something else. I just heard smokers are good :-p

    Thanks!

i would go with some indys and smaller wheels. the only one i've ridden had flashbacks and indy 129s. it was fun though.

something in the 66mm range and some indy 149 or 169 would be nice.

What are the advantages of smaller wheels and those trucks? Perhaps I should look into some more setups.

The Superglider was designed around Indy 169 trucks, and work really well with them.

    Larger wheels = Moar bite.

The earthwing superglider was designed around independent trucks. Also 66mm wheels seem to be the max size wheel without having to run a significant amount of riser.

    *edit*

Plenaire beat me to it. This is a pretty good setup here as well http://longboardskater.com/mm5/merch...tegory_Code=E9 Free shipping, no tax, and 5% discount is you use the "SILVERFISH" discount code.

Turns out I haven't ordered it yet, forgot to finish the payment...

Alright so should I be really concerned about wheelbite? This setup was a recommended one that I found. Also daddieslongboards recommended paris 150mm trucks with 70mm smokers, and I heard smokers are a good wheel for the Superglider.

What would the indy/66mm setup have advantage-wise over the current setup I have?

the advantage is that you get a good setup, as opposed to a poor one

To elaborate a little on Dev's answer....

The Paris 150s may be OK. They'll be a little taller than independents and maybe a little more stable at speed. I prefer indys, but the Paris may work. The 66mm wheel max seems pretty well established in all the superglider threads on here. Since your trucks will be a little taller, maybe you can swing the extra 4mm.

If you do have wheel bite issues your choices are tightening down the trucks or running taller/harder bushings which will make the board less turny and IMO less fun. or you'll need taller risers which will make the board taller and make pushing less comfortable. Why not just get the EW 66mm wheels? Whichever trucks you get, if you don't like them, you can trade them on the silverfish buy/sell/trade, so don't stress too much. buy a board and go skate

I ran paris 150s and various 70mm wheels for the first few months I had my glider. It's fine--you won't know what you're missing--and you'll have a lot of fun. But when I finally put on 169s and 66mm wheels it felt like the deck had been freed. Like when you train for a marathon by running around with a backpack full of bricks, and then you drop the bricks.

I can't believe nobody has made the following comment: DO NOT GET THE CLEAR GRIP!

If you are paying for grip please do not waste your money on Gravity clear grip (most, if not all, stick on clear grip is crappy and slippery). I do not know what your options are on Daddies but I vote for Viscous, Madrid, Jessup, pretty much anything black=better than clear.

On the Indy note, get Indy's. I started running my first pair of hybrids about 4 months ago and will never look back.

Gravity clear is grippier than jessup, IME. And if he's only "flatlanding" and maybe "light DHing" vicious or some other gnarly grip will only tear his shoes up and make it uncomfortable to carry, for no reason. I had the EW SuperStupidSharkGrip on my Widerglider for starters and it was overkill. Much happier with MOTR minilogo.

Alright so I'll probably switch to 66mm wheels with 169 indy trucks and the same spacers and shock pad. What wheels would you guys recommend? Is that all I need?

Oh and I heard that if I want clear tape, I should get gravity clear tape. I also heard jessup black is meh.

Archy, I've been on that boat for a good while now too.

Anyways, My friend just got a Supercharger with Paris 180's and 66mm Zig's and it has almost an inch of clearance at full lean, you could fit 75mm's in there. It rides really well, a good amount of lean, a tad high, really really stable. I'd recommend it for what you're doing, just get some soft bushings.

DBS ABEC 7 bearings with spacers

    I had indy 215's with a 1/4" FLAT shock riser...70mm EW Smokers.

I don't think you need an angled one. What would you need it for?

It was sick, but I heard the indy 169's were what the 'glider was designed around. So I traded them in, and now I'm waiting to get them in the mail.

there was nothing wrong with the wider trucks, I just want to keep trying new things to figure out what I like.

So, maybe that's what you should do.

Actually, I need some Road rages or Fat Free Orangatangs for my smaller trucks. I don't really want to cut my wheel wells if I don't have to....

good luck! The widerglider is an orgasm.

EDIT: You should really check out http://www.milehighskates.com/catalo...a88bed9e6cb143 i know it's been said already, but I'm pretty sure it's cheaper than Daddies. And Mark has such a good rep...and deserves more customers. And the setup is ready to ride.

Hmm, heard a lot about the mile high skates ones... Would I have to change anything? Apparently it comes with

    Hybrid 169 trucks
    Gravity Burner 66mm
MHS sealed bearings with steel spacers
    Tracker risers

EDIT: The mile high skates one is the most recent right? I mean it's a widerglider and with the new design: http://www.silverfishlongboarding.co...w_Superglider/

The hybrids are awesome. The wheels will fit. Everyone loves those bearings.

    I don't think you'll have to change a thing

If you're worried about something, shoot Mark a question through email and he'll respond to it. He could probably switch something up if you really wanted him to.

Unfortunately, Mile High Skates only ships to the US, and I'm in Canada. Any other good online longboarding shops?
