    Default randals

my hypercarve just came today from gravity. the trucks it came with were randal 150s but they were super tight and barely turned. I loosened them a bit until the part where the rubber thing of the truck became kinda loose and wiggily..

did i do it too far?

i kinda like my trucks very turny... are randal 150s very turny? my diamond tail was very turny with the tracker b2s so i'm kinda use to that.

Oh yeah, the randal 150's should turn WAY better than B2s.

What you want to do is replace the rubber parts (the bushings) with something better. We're talking like $5-$10, and you'll be set.

My personal favourites are the red (med-soft) Khiro Gold combo bushings, but bones hardcores, or indy bushings would be fine too.

Wait, buying new bushings is a good idea... BUT!!

Try taking the bushing closest to the base of the hanger, and flipping it upside down, so the small end of the cone is contacting the hanger... and put the bushing cup upside down contacting the base, holding the bushing further up the kingpin. Try that, and tell me, that should be MUCH more turny, but you can still make it tight, but turn still. Basically flip the bottom (bigger) bushings opposite of how it came.

This should help you LOADs with your turning problem.

If you need pictures to explain, I can post some.

I have not tried khiro, I hear only good things about them. My bones hardcore realy like to fall apart, and remove themselves from the plastic inserts. Indy bushings are my favorite.

    Picture.

#1 marks the extra bushing cups used to push the bushing up further, to increase the angle of the hanger, to make the truck stear more.

#2 marks the bushing that is flipped to let the hanger turn easier.

hmmm before i take my trucks apart..

    they are not complicated right?

i never done it before.. what kind of tools do i need?

i'll experiment a little, thats how we learn right?

holy crap i just did it ...

    1. wow how can something so complicated be so simple.. randals are pretty damn simply constructed!

    2. damn taking it apart was fun!

    3. my hypercarve is sooooooo turny now! is this ok? like will this cause damage to the trucks and bearings longterm wise??

    4. when i took it out the bottom bushing for the trucks this metal washer thingy fell out... do i need taht in therE? cuz i dont have it in there and it still works.. and if i flip the bushing and still put that metal washer in there, then the hangers wil rub against it.. metal rubbing metal..

    5. I did this to both my trucks.. is that ok? will that compromise the stablility randals are renowned for?

    thanks guys

    1: You got that right!

    2: It is pretty fun

3: It's just fine... is it fun?? It should not cause any damage longterm. I have been riding all mine like that for the past year and a half.

4: You don't need it in there, but if you put it in there under the bushing on the baseplate side (sharp end of the washer on the baseplate side (refer to the picture)) to push the bushing up more, it will increase the pivot angle, and the trucks will turn more.

5: It's just fine if you like it! I do that to both my trucks and I love it. Yes, it will compromise some stability though. But it is easy to change back once you get the hang of it if you want to bomb a huge hill.

6: It's gonna squeak unless you want to put lube in there... which you might want to not do. Lube atracts dirt and will wear down your bushings faster then it would without lube. But lube does help your trucks turn real smooth, and it feels nice!

Keep experimenting. Try different bushings... and eventually try experimenting with angled risers!

just put some(very little) grease in the pivot cup and on the kinpin and the noise should be gone

I find putting some talcum powder in the pivot cup takes away a lot of the noise, and doesn't attract nearly as much dirt as grease. though the sound does come back after a while and you have to put more talcum powder in there.
