Longboarding Resources & Q/AGet or give friendly, patient answers to, "Which board should I get?", "How do I stop?" or "What's wedging and how do I do it?"
Gahhh im havin trouble screwing on the nut onto the kingpin, it is like impossible theres no room, the angle is funky, and since hte truck base is arleady mounted...,.meh
I spent 2 minutes on a 38" M1 today before getting kicked out of TWO parking garages INSTANTLY. It was pouring outside. Not impressed. When I have spent more time on it, I will give better info/review. (It is my friend's M1 which just arrived)
But...the 38" model is sooooo turny. Wow. The trucks were very very loose on it, but it out turned my 38" Vanguard. It is stiffer than the 46" version, I believe it's just the exact same construction except cut down. Some bounce, it's not stiff as a speed board, but it's no Loaded. On the 38" your feet are right on the edge of the cutout parts, it's just the right length to fit my stance. It's still long enough to cross step. I'll tell more about the ride and turning when I have more time to dial in the trucks to my liking and see exactly how it really handles. When digging into hard carves (and wow does it carve deep), even at low to medium speed, it wanted to kick the wheels out. I bet it'll drift like mad.
The grip that he put on ($10 I believe) feels pretty grippy, and at first I thought it was poorly done and blotchy...then I realized he did a cool checker pattern and a couple lines. Very very cool idea, I haven't seen that before. I imagine once the grip gets dirty you'll be able to see the pattern more clearly.
Once I spend more time on it I'll see how the length is. Keep in mind that on the 38" KS board you have less room than a 38" Vanguard, since the cutouts take up a lot of space. I'm not sure if a 40" may be a better choice, but like I said when it stops raining I'll have more time to decide on that. I'm definitely liking the short length though, super fun and fast. Very different and more personal feel than the 46", it fits your feet and no blank wood left over.

B. You sure are telling the man. Way to support a small business run by a legit guy. This is clearly your first purchase with an echeck over the internet (or at least with a merchant who has half of a brain) because it is a common practice to hold product until a cheque clears.
C. You are ripping on his business. You're practically calling him shady because he likes to make sure he doesn't get screwed out of money that he worked hard for.
^^^^
for 106 i dont know why u would even TRY to get the board for free.... it almost is.

You said you weren't impressed, but everything you said about the board was positive.

How do you do, young Willie McBride,
Do you mind if I sit here, by your grave side
And rest for a while in the warm summer sun,
I've been walking all day and I'm nearly done
I see by your grave stone your were only nineteen,
When joined the great fallen in 1915
I hope you died well and I hope you died clean,
Or Willie McBride was it slow and obscene? http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...a10/flyzw2.gif

Just as BL said, it was just some frustration with the outdoors and security.
I'm just going out right away to skate some more on it, and big_loaf will get some time on it too. We will report back with more info on the 38" version later today (hopefully).

Old School 80's Board
It is the Scimitar deck with M1 parts, 38" version. Gripped by KS. Nicely done in a pattern which I haven't seen before in silica-style grip.
It is about 1" narrower than the 46" version. The wheel base is probably 1.5" shorter than my Vanguard, it's an entire wheel size shorter I believe. It is significantly stiffer than the 46" version. There is some flex when you bounce on it, but after riding a Vanguard it feels as stiff as a speed board.
The board turns like mad. It is super low. Your feet are right where the cutouts start when in a comfy cruising stance. If you want to use a wider stance for bombing or for dropping down it gets cramped. Opt for a bit bigger size if you want to do more of this. For cruising and zipping around it is great. (I am about 5'10")
It rides very very different from the 46". It is instant turning, pretty stiff, amazing for commuting and pedestrian slalom. Pumps like mad. When you turn deep into a carve you can feel the wheels on the edge of their traction. When the wheels are broken in I bet it'll kick out super nice. It still turns a bit more than my Vanguard, but the trucks are looser. It feels good like that. It is a bit small for comfortable cross stepping.
If you want a small, fast, low, turny commuter, the 38" is a great choice. If you want a bit more of the smooth turny feel, with more flex and more stability, get the 46" version. They are very different riding boards, we were all very surprised. The 38" version is also quite light and will be not be annoying for taking into stores and the like.
Oh, and after riding the board for the day, my friend's brother got home and instantly ordered a KS board. He never seriously longboarded or skated before yesterday, but now he is absolutely hooked.

Old School 80's Board
I was thinking of getting a Kracked Skulls M1 board, but I wanted to know if everyone here thought it would be right for me.
I like to carve and bomb hills, but I rarely go over 35 mph. I weigh 145 lbs, and I'm 6' 1" (dunno if that makes a difference).
I'm not too worried about it being too big to ride places, because i have a 32" super 9 deck that i would use for transportation.
The wheels/ bearings/ trucks i would put on it are: Super swiss 6 bearings, 70mm 81a flasbacks, and Gullwing alpine trucks ( super 9's version of randalls), with red khiro bushings.
and now for my little review on the 38" Scimitar....
Lee pretty much covered all the technical specs on the board, although the ride was a bit different for me since i'm a bit bigger. at 6'2 and 200 lbs. i still found this board fun as hell! it was a bit on the tight side for foot room because i use a wider stance, but i was still more than able to ride the board without any discomfort. the board still didn't really flex at all under my 200lbs while riding. it makes up for this lack of flex with insane turning though; i have yet to ride a board that turns tighter that this little bugger.
I don't really think it's fair to compare the 38" Scimitar to my 46" Scimitar because really, they're completely different boards. sure they've got the same name and shape, but once you've ridden both, you'll understand what i mean.
as Lee said, if you're looking for a small and nimble commuter, look no further; the 38" Scimitar will fufill all your needs.
if you prefer cruising for long distances in flexy comfort and bombing some mellow hills while busting out some deep carves, then definitely opt for the 46" Scimitar instead.
if i were to order another one right now, i think i'd give a 42" Scimitar a try. it might just be that perfect mix of the two....or it could suck, who knows. any volunteers?!
