Re: Kracked Skulls
It looks like I'm William's first mess-up. He forgot to send the board (about a week and a half ago, got lost or something he said), so he's resending it today.

well one out of who knows how many hundreds and hundreds ain't too bad
not his first mess up though; i requested my Scimitar with no graphic or finish, but the one i received had both. oh well, just meant more time spent sanding before refinishing...

Re: Kracked Skulls
same with mine, but i dont really care. still rides just as nice. love it.

Re: Kracked Skulls
oh i feel you on that one, it doesn't make much difference. it was just a bit of a pain because it added about an extra hour of sanding that i wouldn't have needed to do.
looks great now, i'm not complaining

Re: Kracked Skulls
Has anyone tried using a different wheels on the M146 other than the 70mm Flashbacks (which are sideset)? I don't mind the Flashbacks but I'm coning the snot out of them real quick on my M1 so I was looking for an alternative. Usually if you don't want to cone to quickly you have to go to a centerset wheel but I'm concerned that a centerset wheel wouldn't work especially at the preferable 70mm or larger size.
My thoughts are the centerset Grippins at 70mm or the offset Gumballs at 76mm. Any experiences out there you would like to share? Other wheel brands? Wheel shapes? Sizes?
Before anyone gets mad at me, I did a couple of searches on the thread but I couldn't find anything...
Thanks for your help!

Re: Kracked Skulls
My understanding is that the Gumballs will conflict/bite the edge of the board on an M1, and that this was the reason for the Scimitar design. I don't know about the shorter Grippin.

The ZigZag line up might work. They are all 70mm and offset but I'm not sure if I want these as they are mostly considered a grippy slalom and downhill wheel. I do like to slide a bit (hard carving and stopping) so they might not work for me. I may give them a try but it looks like I'll have to stay with the flashbacks...

Re: Kracked Skulls
The Zigs work! I should have mentioned that. I've seen and ridden "djona's" M1 and his Scimitar. The M1 has lemon, 70mm Zags on it, I think. With the Grippin being centerset, I'm just not sure whether the inside edge will hit the back of the wheelwell or not.

Thanks! I also agree with your Grippnins opinion, btw

Re: Kracked Skulls
as ebasil was saying, it's best to stick to a sideset or offset 70mm(ish) wheel for the M1. grippins might work, but i can't say for sure since i haven't tried. zigzags work as well, but as for gumballs or anything in the 76mm range, nuh uh, i wouldn't say so.
i think i remember hearing a dude or two saying they're running gumballs on an M1, but the board wasn't designed for a wheel that size, and you run the risk of some nasty wheelbite.
the gumballs are dreamy on a KS board though, i'm running some on my Scimitar and love it to bits

Re: Kracked Skulls
I got my 42" scimitar today.
I had to make a few modifications to it for my trucks to fit (gullwing alpines).
Also, William told me it used the new school bolt pattern, but it uses the old school ones.
So now I only have 2 bolts holding each truck on. Still feels stable though.
However, I'm still going to use it, and just eventually buy some randall baseplates.

woaaaah there cowboy, i would NOT recommend riding that thing without all four bolts securely in place!
that's just asking for trouble. you can and will do damage to yourself and your board.
i'm assuming you just got the deck only, right? otherwise i really would have no idea why someone would actually use gullwings for anything besides a paperweight or maybe a doorstop. i highly suggest you part with a couple bucks and get yourself some randal 180s. you'll be safer, happier, and have a much better ride as a result.

Re: Kracked Skulls
I just got my M1 today and it is awesome. I got it at noon and went out like 5 times to ride the thing. What's even better is the echeck I sent William cleared today so I wasn't expecting it this soon. Great deck and service.

Well, I spent the last of my money on this board.
William told me it had the newschool bolt pattern.
This probably sounds bad, but with just the 2 bolts holding it on, it really feels fine. I've jumped on it, rode it, everything, it seems fine.
I really don't know what to do, I have no more money, and I was expecting a board with a newschool bolt pattern.

Re: Kracked Skulls
perhaps you misunderstood william; he might have told you that your gullwings are drilled newschool, and the KS is drilled oldschool. or maybe he was thinking one thing and accidentally typed another.
either way, i'm pretty certain he knows how he drills his boards
this is a total last resort suggestion here, but if you absolutely cannot afford new trucks........steal a drill from someone, mount the trucks with the two innermost bolts in, then drill some newschool holes straight through the baseplate facing the nose/tail of the board. at least that way you'll have something you can ride with confidence. i don't care if it "feels" stable; it's not. if trucks were meant to be held on by only two bolts, then they'd only have two holes

"The M1 Scimitar Edition deck with mounting hardware is $59.95 + Shipping.
It is new bolt pattern only."
Apparantly not?
The deck IS old school bolt pattern.
I was thinking of just drilling old school holes on the trucks, but there isn't enough metal.
Then i thought about drilling new school holes on the deck, but there isn't enough wood.
EDIT: Now that I've actually mounted the trucks, it appears there IS enough metal on the trucks to drill them.
So come tomorrow morning, there will be 4 bolts holding on each truck.

Arrrrrrrrgh
I was on vacation for a few days and I got the longboard this afternoon (Friday). It arrived at the post office on thursday (and he shipped it Tuesday or wednesday... holy crap it came fast, considering it went through customs and everything up to Canada).
I rode the 46" Scimitar for about 4 hours up and down the hills in my town... amazing. Only took about a half hour for me and a couple buddies to put it together.
I had about ten guys ride it over the evening and asked me what I paid for it. When I said $200 Canadian including shipping, they #### their pants.
DEFINITELY WORTH THE WAIT!! pictures will be up maybe tomorrow when I get a chance
