Re: Kracked Skulls
how would you set it up to make it a cruiser/carver? I would guess the 180s would work as the trucks, but what wheels do you guys like on it? I figured i would just buy the complete that's sold on the site with the 70mm flashbacks and see what they're like.

Re: Kracked Skulls
Anybody else have internet explorer come up with suspicious website warning? That's what I get once I put in shipping info. I'm sure it's fine because so many people have already ordered. Also, how difficult is it to set up the board for someone who's never really skated before. I'm looking at buying the kracked skulls for my first longboard. Thanks.

Re: Kracked Skulls
my main gripe with it is the graphic, regardless I'd like picking one up when I get the chance. What sort of paint would you use on a deck, btw? XP

Re: Kracked Skulls
dosen't sanding leave the potential to mess up the strength of the board, though? In any case I'm a student, I hardly have a belt sander lying around.

what do you think would happen if you just tried to do a paint job ontop of the varnish?

i'll be honest...i don't know that it wouldn't mess with the strength...but just to take off a layer of varnish IMO shouldn't hurt it at all. i mean, coming from a woodworker's point of view, the strength comes from the wood (no ####, right?) and not from the varnish. now, if you did happen (by some freak chance) to take an entire ply or two off, then i'd be concerned. but the thing that would concern me more is that you DIDN'T notice the fact that you had already sanded the graphic and varnish off at that point.

the paint would stick...but it just wouldn't be as good. plus, you'd still have the stock graphic to work around. really, it's doable even though the experts will tell you not to...but i'd imagine the paint wouldn't set properly so you'd have to wait longer between coats.
really, if i were to get a KS board, i would sand off the varnish and paint a new graphic on it...which i'm SERIOUSLY considering now...i mean, for the price and the quality, it can't be beat and the graphic is just a weekend worth of work away
yes, an uber-grippy, square-lipped slalom wheel IS the best for sliding

Re: Kracked Skulls
I suppose. Seriously though, I'm terrible with painting, I've tried it for a while and I just can't get anything to come together.
I do a lot of photography, though. And I love a lot of Pop Art, so ultimately I'd love to do some deck design using maybe some kind of Warhol-esque lithograph work with some of my photos - who knows, maybe even make a small spare-time buisness out of it. Unfortunately I don't have the facilities to do that kind of work at the moment. Definately something to keep in mind though.

Re: Kracked Skulls
Can't you guys email him and ask him to send it to you without the logo and varnish? Seems like it would be less work for him and less work for you guys...so good all around.
And to answer another question, there is enough room to cross step and such on the board. It's very wide and cross stepping is no problem. I could walk the plank quite easily, though your last step may end up on the baseplate...although it still works. It's fine for pirouettes and 360's and all that junk...the only thing you'll be limited on is manuals (although still probably possible, just awkward).

Yes.
Remove varnish from board before painting or else it will look/feel bad. Contact William. He is a really nice guy.

Re: Kracked Skulls
Yeah its big enough to board walk...dont' treat it like a vanguard though...trust me...it can break if you abuse it too much (testing it). I just attacked mine with sharpies...I'll post some pictures of my new one in a few days.

I painted mine up like a harlot. No problems thus far--other than my questionable spraypainting skillz.

Re: Kracked Skulls
About all this KS stuff...I'm looking at one, too, but I'm told it would be really heavy for a 5'1" 125lb chica like myself. Are we talking weight, or the fact that it wouldn't flex under me, or what? Both? I realize the wheel base is a little large for me...
Any advice as to what I should look for?

Re: Kracked Skulls
Both!! It isn't a real agile board, and you'd probably have to work it harder than enjoyed carving deserves! It's a great set-up and a great deal..Just not meant for the lighter and more petite riders!!
