Re: Just ordered my KS M1!
Haha, I can't wait for my KS too. Ordered last Tuesday. Hoping it will make it here sometime this week. It'll be my first longboard.

Re: Just ordered my KS M1!
It was my B-day yesterday, and my fiance bought it for me as a surprise. She saw me drooling over the board online. Let me just say, the board is nice...
I already assembled it; and getting it gripped tonight. Now all I need is for it to stop raining and I can tell you how it rides. Hope you enjoy when it arrives
Cheers!

Hey Helyas, how's the board without grip? I contacted Bill (william) concerning the grip and he says he doesnt grip the boards because they come with a polyurethane coat that apparently is sufficient (for him atleast).
Yeah, hope my board comes soon.

Re: Just ordered my KS M1!
KS boards rock. I have yet to read a bad review of them. I discovered them on another forum, and now have two. Bill's got some talent and those boards are just awesome rides. Compared to other dropped boards, they are also not too heavy.
The prototype doesn't even have a name, so you'll have to ask Bill what it's called. It's shorter than the M1-46. I have mostly 46 inch boards so still getting used to a shorter board. I go back and forth, longer is easier, shorter is quicker. Sometimes I fall off the end they are so quick....
Tomorrow for my ride I'm going longer for a change.
peace,
Jules

Re: Just ordered my KS M1!
I just got mine last week. i love her. The coating on the board does work as a grip but ima get it gripped still b/c i keep falling off. definitely more of a carver then a DH. I have the stock bushings and semi tight trucks and i took it to like 25 with no problem so if you want it for DH just get some harder bushings, if not leave it alone and just ride it.

Re: Just ordered my KS M1!
The top of the board definately has some texture in the poly, which for commuting would work just fine. However this is my garage board, so I wanted it to go fast and carve hard. I figured a couple bucks on griptape would be money well spent, but it's definatley not mandatory.
By the way, last night I took it to the garage for the first time. It's incredible! It coners tight, holds speed great, adsorbs road vibration for a smooth ride, and believe it or not it offer lovely even and controlled slides. I believe the M1 was bred for garages.
The M1 is an A+ board in my book, and for the price you can't go wrong.

Re: Just ordered my KS M1!
It seems William has had a busy few days packing and sending boards, i ordered mine on Sunday. Can't wait, it's going to be my 1st deck over 40" and after reading all the hype i'm happy i decided on kracked skulls. I just wish the postal service here in Norway wasn't as much use as a bull with tits, i've got at least 14 days to wait......the cheeky b'tards usually open packages up and then let them sit around in there storage facility for a few days, i bet i'm not the 1st person on my board! (although if it arrives with blood stains on, i'll be happy)

Re: Just ordered my KS M1!
Ha Ha, that's actually pretty funny. However the board comes disassebled. So if you get you board with the trucks and wheels already on it, you'll know someone got to test drive it. Good luck...

Good times. Welcome to the club... I think you're gonna enjoy it.

Interesting story: Shortly after assembling this board, I was at a local park by my house practicing some boardwalking stuff and this guy actually recognized it as a Kracked Skulls board. I was talking to him for a little while and he had a Never Summer and a Big Red X in his trunk. It turned out to be EBasil from these very forums. He even gave me some tips on different truck setups and whatnot.

I've been riding my KS a lot, working on sliding a little bit. It's not hard to get into position but seems like the gloves aren't doing much to slow me down. Any suggestions? You know how fast these boards are on downhill. They also get a lot of attention from passersby in the Park in Albany.

Re: Just ordered my KS M1!
Photonicgirl, what type of gloves are you using? What wearing surface are you using on the gloves (i.e, cutting board, tiles, plastic, etc.), if any? And what exactly do you dislike about your gloves?

The gloves are not cheap, or homemade, they are let's see, Gravity and another kind.
The problem is (I think) that as a semi beginner, I don't have the correct technique to slow down the board by applying glove to pavement. The plastic seems to just skim across the street, making noise but not much else. There's probably something I'm doing wrong and even tho I've watched a ton of vids I can't figure out what I should to to slow down the board....other than jumping off. And we all know how that turns out if you are going too fast....

controlled speedchecking-slides?
starting off learning how to surrender would probably be best
(two hands down in front of the board, leaning forward)

Re: Just ordered my KS M1!
Couldn't help you with slides. I've been on a low-speed boardwalking kind of thing since I started longboarding. The most speed I get is carving down the more mellow hills around my neighborhood so far. I've been able to just carve-footbrake to a stop.

Try learning to do some slides on a shorter board with really hard wheels...I even use a standard street skateboard for sliding. The board will kick out very easily. Do that for a few days until you are COMPLETELY comfortable at speed doing slides, and then you can think about doing it on the Kracked Skulls and you won't be so freaked out. Remember to wear pads, and start off gradual. But also remember that speed is your friend for breaking free...

I do have a Biker Pro shorter board, and I find myself putting a foot down in the wrong place (behind the board) because my normal stance is so wide from 46 inch boards.
Sounds like I just have to keep working on it, and maybe with my shorter KS board I can get some sliding in. That board's around 42 inches I think.
Appreciate the tips. I wish I could confine myself to board walk riding, but here where I ride, it's all hills except for the bike path which is pretty flat for miles.
I basically *have* to learn to slide. And yes, I have major padding.

Re: Just ordered my KS M1!
The way I learned my first slides was to ride a skateboard (it's not just the wheelbase...if you throw super hard wheels on your KS that'll help A TON) quite fast...like top speed pushing, crouch down, put both slide gloves on the ground on my toe side, and carve as sharp as I could on my toes.
Near the end of the carve you'll start to feel your back wheels kicking free. Do this 5-10 times in a row, each time you'll get more comfortable knowing when the board will kick free, and you'll start to weight your hands more. Soon you'll be forcing the board out with your legs and leaning all on your hands, like in the push-up position. This is what you want to be doing.
The more comfortable you are with this slide, the easier it will be to transition to the Coleman slide. At first I found the Coleman much scarier, but now that I know to stay low and put a ton of weight on my hand...almost as though I'm sitting down on my hand...they are very very predictable. Just start off with hard carves and breaking free at the end. You can start to slide on very hard wheels on flat ground at high-speed pushing (I can do that on 92a Flashbacks without trouble and I'm not that good...I just haven't tried with anything softer). Seriously though, try it on your street board with the tiny little rock hard wheels...or even throw those wheels on your KS...it'd look and feel crazy but it might be crazy enough to get you a good start into sliding.
