Re: Kracked Skulls
the only thing i know sufficiently is that if you ask for a deeper cutout on the m1, it compromises the strength around the nose (thats what william used to do, but he got reports that noses were breaking). thus, the wood riser for strength on the scimitar at the ends. so you can run wheels greater than 70mm pretty much exclusively on the scimitar. torsional stiffness is also enhanced(?) i believe on the scimitar, which basically means it twists less(?).
i haven't tried flashbacks, but i hear they're a great all-around wheel. if it's your first board, i think they'll suit you fine.
clear grip is readily available at most online longboard retailers. be careful when you apply it because unlike with black grip, you can actually see the air bubbles from a bad application. but i hear you can just pierce the bubbles with a razor anyways.

that makes sense about the breakage, thanks. I wonder how hard it would be to reinforce it though, I checked and the difference is $20-- enough to get some stain and grip supplies. my plan is to stain it dark on the top, maybe the bottom too, then add some hawaiiny pinstripes on the top and this shark graphic I designed on the bottom. should be pretty sick.
from what you said though it just sounds like it would be safer to get the scimitar. I'll wait for some more opinions though. thanks for your help.

Re: Kracked Skulls
My scimitar is the tits.
Get one.
For cruising around, and transportation, I find larger wheels are nice.
I run either S9 RF 76mm's or Gumballs on it (also 76mm).
I would recomend either the gumballs, or the powerballs, which I have on another board.
They are awesome.
Deff. get the scimitar though.

Re: Kracked Skulls
i'm really interested in gettin a scimitar, but i'm not sure what length....here's the deal...
i have a big ole pintail cruiser, 46"s9 pintail (my first board)
and a legendary merlin, 29" that i really like communting around town on
so the KS would be for carvin and garages and just those long days of skatin with friends in the summer.....i would really like to get better at some cross steppin and such as well as some sliding mainly stand ups and some drifting
what length do you guys recommend? and would powerballs or some strikers be good choices for what i'm lookin for
-legendary merlin, paris 150, tunnel str
-S9 46" bamboo pintail, alpines, flashbacks
-S9 barong pool deck, indy 149, powell bowl rider pf
-8" kickflipper, indy 129

idk.
I have a 46"
It's not the easyest to slide, but me with my shitty sliding skills can do it.
Um, due to the cutouts, you don't have the full length as a platform, keep that in mind if you want to be doing crosstepping. I'd look around the 44/42" if I were you. I like my powerballs more than I like my friends strikers, although I've only tried the powerballs on my Rumrunner, and the strikers on his 46" scimitar.
Just a thought, but how tall are you?

i'm 5 11 180 lbs.
i've heard lots of good things bout powerballs
i was thinkin 42 would be cool.....i know it would be nice to have something a bit shorter than my 46" pintail but i'm not how short to go

Re: Kracked Skulls
42" Scimitar Deck, RII 180mm in Black, ABEC11 76mm Gumballs, abec5 Bearings, bearing spacers
that's the setup I'm probably gonna go with. goin with the 2" less simply to carry around easier.
I've learned so much about longboards through this process... when I was first decided I wanted another longboard after my old one broke (really old christmas present) I was looking to spend <$100 was gonna get one of those Moose decks from Ebay. so glad I found this site!
thanks for everyone's advice. and btw if anyone's from UMD hit me up and and we can carve through campus together.

Re: Kracked Skulls
i have a 46" and a 42". 42" is pretty popular, and i prefer it over the 46". a lot. i'm 6'4". mind that i don't dance, and i find it really hard to learn on it given it's so wide and it's hard for me to find the center of the board sometimes.. but also consider i got the original width on the 42" that would come with the 46" since william usually reduces the width with shorter lengths to preserve around the same amount of flex.
i'd recommend the 42". 46" is a bit long. but all in all, it's up to you.

I basically thought this board would be really cool because it's so different than what i have, it's really affordable, and it sounds like alot of people really like it. I'm wanting to know if you guys think i would enjoy the board. I weigh about 155. What are the things that aren't so great about the board?
im 170 and 5'10. i got the Scimitar 44'' about a month ago and havent stopped riding since. it is a great board, no doubt. for the price you can't beat it. it depends where u live though, b/c my board was only 150 wheels and all but turned out to cost 175 with the shipping. i live in NC. but i would recommend it. for several reasons.
if you're just starting out, it has a lot of stability. my girlfriend wanted a ride on it (never ridden a board in her life) and rode a pretty steep hill her first time and had no problems.
my only issue was the pumping at first. but its not as hard after you just figure out the board. loosen the trucks and you can get a nice pump.
all in all i love the board. great for neighborhood cruising, took it on a 5 story parkin garage, rode down town. awesome board. I'm a kracked skulls fan for life

Re: Kracked Skulls
sup ladies and gents. i am considering getting a scimitar but i am torn from either getting a 38" or a 42". I am 5'6, 160 lbs and i'm going to be using this board for cursing, pumping, and going down garages and small hills. which one would be a nice fit? i tried emailing but so far no response =(. thanks in advance

Re: Kracked Skulls
My vote goes for bigger. I have a bunch of boards, and I just like the bigger ones. When I got into the sport, I was all about getting something smaller but as I progress I like the big boards. I come from a surfing and snowboarding background so that probably has something to do with it.
Seriously the 46" M1 is great. Wouldn't have it any other way. I set it up with Randals/90+ Venoms and 83a/ 75mm Otangs.

I went into a coma, badly broke my pelvis, lacerated my liver and almost died on the mountain AND later in the hospital. The rehabilitation therapists had to teach me how to do everything again...everything.
I survived that mountain because of my helmet...WEAR ONE and send your family to the hospital, not the morgue.

Re: Kracked Skulls
Im new to the whole longboarding community and have heard a lot of good reviews of Kracked Skulls. Ive been so close to purchasing a Scimitar and im pretty sure I will in the next couple days. Just wondering what you guys think of this setup for a beginner.
42" Scimitar
Randal RII 180 Black
75mm BigZigs Lime
Abec 5 green
Quartz grip
im 5'11"
weight 195 lbs
Any advice or does this setup seem pretty good?

Re: Kracked Skulls
that seems like a great setup mbugs. I'm running the same thing but with lemons and griptape. I would actually reccommend griptape instead of the clear grip.
