Re: Kracked Skulls
I think you'd enjoy the bigzigz. the limes are the most popular.

Re: Kracked Skulls
Hmmm. Really? Most of the posts I have read have said to get gumball or powerballs. Any more opinions?
And I am still curious about my first questions:
I am 6'1 and around 180-200 lbs. I am trying to decide between the 42 and 44 scim. This will be my first board so I'd like to use it for all round stuff, but I see myself liking downhill riding since I love speed.
How does this board hold up bombing hills? Should I ask for more plies or will that ruin the fun in the rest of my riding?
Thanks.

Re: Kracked Skulls
I got a 42", and I really liked it. I also asked for original width (William thins the board out depending on how short the wb is to preserve flex. A wider board basically means more wood, more stiffness. This is no charge). A KS is by no means a DH board but if you prefer a stiffer ride, you should ask for an extra ply for a fee. In my experience, I enjoyed flex when I first started out, but appreciated stiffness a bit later on.
gumballs = cushy ride.
powerballs = smooth slides.
big zigs = preserve speed, grip.
of course, duro matters as well...

Re: Kracked Skulls
entity:
I'm about the same size & build as you and I opted for the 42" Scimitar. I don't find that I have any shortage of foot room, though I'm not really into boardwalking much. I haven't taken it up very high speed-wise yet, as the hills around here in suburban Illinois are pretty tame, so I can't attest to its speed capabilities. It does have a bit of flex, which is nice for cruising and carving, but may not be what you're looking for if your goal is a good downhill board. (Maybe opt for those extra plies for a little more stiffness if you want a more DH oriented board.)
I also opted for the Gumballs, which are nice and cushy cruising around my neighborhood. I'm no pro at sliding, but I got them to kick out and slide a bit bombing some parking garages yesterday.
All this to say that I enjoy my KS setup, and it works for me, but it certainly is not definitive nor should it dictate your choice. You'll have fun skating whatever you get.

Re: Kracked Skulls
Thanks guys. So, I was leaning towards the 44 but now I am leaning towards the 42 again haha.
Just a few more questions about wheels though.
Can you learn the coleman slide on all of these wheels? I imagine it would be hard on bigzigs. I want to be able to slow down if I need to though. That is one of the things that scares me. Then again, you have to be wearing gloves though and that kinda sounds inconvenient and is just one more peice of gear to buy. Dangit.
But yeah... what about some slightly harder bigzigs? Would that work as far as sliding? The shape doesn't actually look like it would lend itself to that. Maybe a harder duro though?
Then there are the strikers. Those look like they might slide ok...

Re: Kracked Skulls
Entity you can not go wrong with the zigs.
Lots of grip and believe it or not easy to slide.
I think you would like the lemons.
It's a better all around wheel.
I like the feel of the slide better too compared to Strikers.
Gumballs slide somewhat unpredictably for me.

Re: Kracked Skulls
Hi I have been lurking around here for a little while, and I decided it was time to start posting. I am going to get a KS, but i still can't decide what to get. I am thinking either the 43 M1 with the power balls, or the 42 or 44 scimitar with the bigzigs lemon. This is going to be my first board. I am 5'7, and 135 pounds. I am going to use it mainly for cruising and carving, but I know as soon as i get better i am going to want to carve hills. So what setup and size would be best? And is it worth it to pay more and get the scimitar and the bigger whees? What are the advantages?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Kracked Skulls
Double post.
For the wheel questions, search.
If you're gonna get into hills and stuff, look more at powerballs, strikers, etc. They'll slide better than the Zigs. Little rougher ride than gumballs.
Gumballs are a plush smooth ride. You can slide them, but they're chattery.
Zigs, fast. Ride's smoother than powerballs or strikers, not as smooth as Gumballs. Relatively hard to slide, but it can be done.

Personally I think the scimitar is a better thought up board. My brother had powerballs on his M1 and he did encounter wheelbite from time to time. Also powerballs are a weird wheel after skating about anything else. For me they are very difficult to start slides with and they don't slide very far, but they slide very smoothly. The scimitar is easier to manual because the reinforcing riser reaches to the entire nose, it is lighter due to the bigger wheel cutouts, and it is plain sexy. The M1 just has a little more foot space.

So would the M1 be more fun, just for cruising/ carving? And do you think the 43 would be ok on smallish hills?

Re: Kracked Skulls
Is it worth it to upgrade and go with the scimitar, for just cruising, carving, and some small hills/ parking garages?

It's a flexy witch but when you order, tell William and he can stiffen it a bit. He's a big guy too and rides the hell out of it. I'm 222 this morning. This weekend, I put some 97 flywheels on it. I'm not doing any slides or anything yet, just cruising and carving my rough streets.
like buttah...

Who's nose guards are you using? Or did you make them yourself? Thanks

I've still got newbie breath but I'd say yes. Same board but expanded potential given that you can run any wheels you want. Go smaller and harder and slide yourself into conesville. Go bigger, softer and tame those rough streets in the hood. It's low to the ground for ease of pushing. The first time I got on it, I was intimidated with the flex and turniness. A few weeks later with more practice (and after letting my refinishing cure) I tightened the trucks and liked it. Now I've loosened those up and bend this thing in the middle of the street. This morning a couple of runs on it and at the bottom of the court I was standing there and bounced for the first time. Time to start practicing unweighting and getting it to pop over tar snakes and cracks. Isn't it funny watching a little kid learn new tricks.

Home made. PMC in a rubber bumper thread shared his tip and it works like a charm. I've put it on all of my boards. Sharp corners like on pintails, I didn't heat it (should) but bent and pinched before applying.

You find yourself standing at the top of the hill with your board in your hand. You start wondering if this will be the first of many or the last of them all.
