Re: Kracked Skulls
Just ordered a 44" Scimitar with the black randal trucks. Also got some pink bigzigs with bones reds. From what I've read this should be a good setup for cruising, I wanted the Lime bigzigs, but couldnt pass up the combo deal i got on the wheels and bearings together

Re: Kracked Skulls
It will be a good cruising setup. so long as you don't try to slide it. the pink bigzigs will be super super smooth and really really really grip alot.

Oh, and how's the dead-flex on the board. Is it as bad as a deverish/vanguard's?
One more thing, are Scimitars drilled for old school or new school mounting?
I would say you definitely want 180mm reverse geometry trucks.
a 40" scimitar would be very stiff.

I just got my 46" schimater and I am new to longboarding but it seems way to flexible, to the point where I am bottoming out if I am pushing off to hard. In older posts people commented that the shorter boards were stiffer but the current KS sites says shorter boards are narrower so I assume there would have a similar stiffness to the 46" I am 6'4" and weigh around 225s so maybe to heavy for this board. I have it setup .w randall rii's and landyatchz 87 mm wheels. Are others finding they are bottoming out easily. If I cross over a smallish ridge adn happen to turn over is I am likely scrap the bottom. Wondering if I need to glass the bottom to stiffen this up some. thoughts?

Re: Kracked Skulls
I don't mean to be rude, but it seems to me you are a touch heavy for the board. Fiberglassing would work. Try the bottom, if that doesn't fix it, do the top as well. My 46" Scimitar bottoms out when I jump on it near the middle, and I weigh around 90 lbs less than you...

That would help a little, but the 46" is where your issue lies. Ask them if you could send it back and get a 40". That'd definitely solve your problems, and you'd probably be better off. 46" is just too big for a board of that style unless you're using it for dancing.

The shorter boards are narrower, but they are not thinner. They are much stiffer. Glassing the bottom would be pretty sick though. My 38" is very stiff and my cousin's 46" is very flexy. I rode a 42" today and it was also quite flexy.

Re: Kracked Skulls
YAY I finally made it to the end!
I've emailed William, but just for clarity... Once I have my board, I should sand down the bottom (not the top?), paint whatever I want, let it dry, then wipe it with a soapy cloth, and then cover it with some polyurethane coat. That's going to work as waterproofing, right? After all that then I can put some griptape on it, assemble it, and go for a ride?
How long did it take yall to do that?! I have 2 weeks between semesters to get it all together and start riding. I'm thinking of going with a 44 inch Scimitar and I'm absolutely clueless on the wheels (newbie here). Thanks!
Oh, I want just a little spring to the board and I'm 110 pounds. As long as it's not going to be 100% stiff I would rather not have him customize it. Is 44 inches alright?

shouldnt take long, when i stained mine/polyed it it took about two days. it might not take as long with paint. as far as wheels go, just get ABEC11 gumballs, probably in 75a b/c youre only 110 pounds

Re: Kracked Skulls
You don't have to sand it down to bare wood. If you just ordered a plain deck, logo not applied and not gripped, you're in real good shape. If you're going to stain it, then yeah you'll need to sand off what KS has already sprayed on but it's just a single coat anyway I think. If you're going to paint, I'd just give it a light rub down with very fine sand paper or even steel wool for that matter. Wipe it and paint. The next day you could urethane. Hit it early in the morning and you'd be able to put another coat on it that afternoon then let it cure at least 24hrs.
I just ordered a 36" Fri and it came in today. Plain Jane as described above. I'm going out to paint as we speak and while it's drying, cut up some grip.

Re: Kracked Skulls
My bad, I ordered a 38" scimitar, not 36 ,and it came in today.
I'm done. Went over it with finishing grit then sprayed the whole thing red. Sprayed the plates and an oval on the bottom pumpkin orange. Krylon paint for plastic furniture/outdoors is really tough and drys in 10 min or so. Then hit everything with 2 coats of polycrylic (30 min between coats). Applied the KS logo to the oval and outlined with a black sharpie... added some light streaking for motion. Put one more coat of Poly over everything, including the logo. Replaced the bushings on some Paris trucks with khiro barrels. A couple of stickers and 66/83 Chubbies from GFH.
I posted pics over in the latest purchase thread.

Re: Kracked Skulls Glue Risers?
Sorry maybe wrong forum but wondering if anyone has pulled the risers on the Kracked Skulls Scimitar and then glued or expoxied them down again. They are only held on at the back with 2 bolts and then the mounting hardware from the trucks. It would seem glueing under pressure would strengthen the tip and tail and may get rid of some of the squeaking and groaning from the board?
Asked William and he suggested a good idea but he doesn't as lots of people want to paint them a different color. Said if the truck hardware gets at all loose will notice that the riser will lift. I notice on my board that the tip of the riser plate seems to be separated some from the board.
Has anyone tried this? Results? Suggestions. Figured I would use Titebond III and the put the bolts back in to suck down the riser and use a couple clamps with a board over top to apply pressure along the rest of the riser to get it tight to the actual deck. Just seems logical to me that this would be better.

Make sure that you put something between the board and clamps, so the clamps don't tear up the wood. Or use a wood clamp.

Re: Kracked Skulls
I'm looking at purchasing either a scimitar or an m1, but have a quick question (as I'm very new to longboarding)
Which length do you think is right for me (185lbs 6'1")? I'm very interested in getting one of these boards.
