Re: Kracked Skulls
So I've just been reading through a few of these and wanted to be sure that anyone looking to buy a KS board should know that scimitar has been changed a bit. It's not just a M1 with bigger cut outs It has a little more flex now and I think it might have a few more layers of fiber glass and the riser is thicker to make it a bit stronger. I haven't gotten my new Scimitar yet so I can't say how differently it rides, but when it arrives I'll let you guys know.

Kracked Skulls
Here is the finished product of my son's M1.
I went when a reddish stain for the bottom.

This is the custom red grip tape with his name and a Kirby sticker.

This was a fun project, I can't wait till I order my Scimitar. It will be on like donkey kong.
Our decks can't repel STOKE of that magnitude.

Re: Kracked Skulls
HELP ME ON THIS. Kracked Skulls Scimitar or BC Eel? I really need help. These are Dervish Alternatives and I don't know what to choose. They also have pretty much the same disciplines. Both boards will have the same setup (Randal 180s, In Heats, Reds). Kindly help me on this. Otherwise, if I can't choose I'm just gonna buy me a Loaded Dervish. HELP

KS has more mellow characteristics, like a gentle concave, soft flex, light weight, and moderate (but functional) nose. It's available right now.
The BC eel has a more aggressive concave, snappy flex, slightly heavier, with a trick-oriented nose. It's not available right now.
Man up and make your own decision... all the info you need is at your disposal already.

I would not consider these dervish alternatives. Due to the low ride height and the mellow flex pattern KS are much more comfortable than a dervish when sliding steep technical hills. I don't know much about BC but they seem relatively stiff which is also nice for controlling you slides easier. I would say buy a Kracked Skull for it's versatility and price. I dunno about BC, but I would recommend not buying a dervish.

I think I'm going with the Scimitar. Or maybe I'll just buy an Apex 37. It's kinda cheap too. Can someone tell me what are the cons of the Scimitar and Apex?

Cons of Scimitar: Very few, you just cant go to the extremes of any discipline except carving. Like you cant take it safely over 35mph and you cant do crazy pendys and slides but you can def slide quite a bit.
unless you are a pro. GET THE SCIMITAR YOULL LOVE IT!!!!

I don't think so unless you had a different base plate or drilled holes in the Indy ones.

The Eel is heavier, has a different (not necessarily worse) concave, and has a stiffer (some say "snappy") feeling flex.
The Dervish is quite a bit narrower, very mellow concave, and has a bouncier flex.

He can sell his boards for more because there's a much larger demand for them.
Anyway, I'm looking to buy an M1 as a Dervish alternative. However, I'm wondering if the additional $24 for the Scimitar is worth it. The board will be used more as a faster means of transportation than a carving/pumping/DH/dancing machine. I just like to get around campus super fast But I still want to have fun on the thing when I can! I've been riding a crappy Gold Coast for about 7 months now, and I haven't been able to learn anything on it. That's why I think the M1 is better for my purposes.
Any comments?
The quality of the boards has definitely improved over the years - also, 3 years ago was before the US economy started freaking out. Truth be told, a $20 increase is generous.
The extra money for the Scimitar is definitely worth it, IMO. The biggest benefit is being able to run larger wheels (M1 is 70mm max). The shape of the Scimitar's nose also makes it more suitable for tricks than the M1, and the beefier riser makes it more resistant to damage if you're doing big tricks.

Yeah, stupid me.. inflation would make sense.
I really appreciate your advice, and I'm not downright rejecting it, but my budget is around $150. A Scimmy with black Randal's, 75mm BigZigs/76mm Gumballs, and no bearings would put me at $165 with shipping. I may be able to salvage some beat-up Bones Reds from my brother's 7-year-old skateboard, but I'll probably put those in my Gold Coast and use it as a crap-weather board. So there's another $12 for Bones Reds. That puts my total at $177. If I go with an M1 with black Randal's, 70mm Flashbacks, and Bones Reds bought separately, I'm looking at $146 shipped. The 5% code is factored into both. I'm not looking to do too many tricks.. more speed, carving, and pumping.
The Scimitar is practically begging for bigger wheels because that's the way the board is designed. The M1 has one option, which is where the price difference hits. Now that I think about it, though, I'll probably be riding my next buy for a very long time, so why not spend the extra $30? What say you? :]
