I really appreciate your advice, and I'm not downright rejecting it, but my budget is around $150. A Scimmy with black Randal's, 75mm BigZigs/76mm Gumballs, and no bearings would put me at $165 with shipping. I may be able to salvage some beat-up Bones Reds from my brother's 7-year-old skateboard, but I'll probably put those in my Gold Coast and use it as a crap-weather board. So there's another $12 for Bones Reds. That puts my total at $177. If I go with an M1 with black Randal's, 70mm Flashbacks, and Bones Reds bought separately, I'm looking at $146 shipped. The 5% code is factored into both. I'm not looking to do too many tricks.. more speed, carving, and pumping.
The Scimitar is practically begging for bigger wheels because that's the way the board is designed. The M1 has one option, which is where the price difference hits. Now that I think about it, though, I'll probably be riding my next buy for a very long time, so why not spend the extra $30? What say you? :]
Dude get like a NOLA Freeride instead, but if your budget is that tight then buy the Scimitar. And use DECA as your code!

Yep, my thoughts exactly. If you're really on budget, you can buy parts used - gently owned wheels and trucks from the classifieds section are great bargains sometimes.
As for bearings, the cheap $9 bearings on the KS site will work great. For an "upgrade" MileHighSkates brand bearings will probably last you longer, for a very comparable price.
You'll also need griptape =P. There's some cheap solutions for DIY grip in the board builder's section if you're handy.
I'm completely new to longboarding and I apologize if this has already been discussed in here. I'm leaning towards the Scimitar due to the deck shape and price. My only questions are, due to the drop through design, how difficult is it to do tricks like a shove-it and others that require being on the nose or tail? Can the trucks be top mounted as well if I choose to change it myself?
EDIT: Also, this being my first board I should be alright with the 70mm Flashbacks right?

Reason: Forgot a question

The nose and tail are fine for tricks. And yes, you can simply mount the board on top instead of using the drop-through cutouts.
Guys I hate to say this and I have been waiting a while to when I say my scimitar for the price compared to my supermodel I wanted to vomit. I kept the KS and my wife rides it now to cruise around. The fit and finish on these are horrible. Mine weighed like 7.5 lbs after the quartz grip. I hate to do this to will and his brand to be the great detractor but this board was crap.
M1 Scimitar deck (unsure on length) from KrackedSkulls.com
180mm Randal RII Black from KrackedSkulls.com
Subtotal: $122.40
75mm Retro BigZigs from MileHighSkates.com
MHS bearings from MileHighSkates.com
Subtotal: $46.95
Total cost of board: $169.35
Anyone know of better sites to buy the aforementioned components at a cheaper price? I still have to factor in the costs of paint and grip tape, but ~$170 works for me. I save enough here and there to be able to spend a little more for myself
Now, onto the length issue. I'm 5'11", 150lbs. I don't want a dancing board. I want a commuter board that can do everything. Carving/pumping are more likely to be done on the board. Downhill is a possibility, as I'm likely to give the campus parking garages a try. Somebody please suggest a length for the Scimmy!
What do you guys prefer? Dervish or Scimitar? I don't worry about the price. All I need to worry about is the performance. Which performs better? Carving, Sliding, Technical Tricks, Dancing, A little DH and especially FREESTYLE. help help help

Dude get a rapier instead for DH, but the flexy scimi will be fine for cruising and carving. A good length would probably be 44" for you, you might also want to try 46". Remember to use deca as your discount code too.
As for the wheels MHS is usually the best deal around with the free bearing.
I'm tossed up between this and the Comet Doll. The Kracked Skulls scimitar is a lottt cheaper than a Doll setup. But I might want to save money to get the Doll.
Thoughts?

I'd go with a Doll and Indies.
Might be picking up that setup pretty soon, still having troubles deciding on what board I want...
He's doing you good on the prices with the package. If you buy all that separately you'll pay more. He ships super fast too. What are you waiting for???? It's time to get out there and ride.

My thought is, if your Scimitar got so heavy all of a sudden, could you contact Will and express your dissatisfaction? Seems like he'll take care of you. So many people love their Scims... yeah the finish isn't fancy, but the board rocks.
Hey, I'm new to longboards. Long time snowboarder, was a skateboarder waaayyyyy back in the day. Anyone have first hand experience with Kracking Skulls? How are they for flat-land pumping? I have a rail trail that is long and flat by my house, so my main concern is wanting something to just pump/cruise up and down the trail and around my neighborhood.
If they aren't good for pumping, then can you recommend a set-up I can get as a complete that would cruise well pumping? Not looking to spend over 170ish.
I was looking at the Arbor Blunt and Rail initially since I have an Arbor snowboard (killer by the way) but then the KS really caught my eye.
Thanks for your help,
Pete

Details please - negative review are only helpful if they're justified =P. What do you mean the "fit and finish" are horrible? (I wouldn't really know - I always finish + grip my boards myself).
And I don't wanna burst your bubble, but 7lbs is about the normal weight for most longboards - in fact, the 40" Scimitar is lighter than most other boards in the same class, except the Dervish, which is exceptionally light.

Dude... man up. Read around more, do your own research, make your own decisions, and take responsibility for your own purchases! I don't wanna be harsh, but you've started multiple threads, and posted in multiple (only slightly related) threads asking basically the same questions which have previously been answered in multiple other threads.
The Scimitar's flex, lower height, and width makes it slightly better for mild DH and sliding, while the Dervish's light weight and bigger nose makes it somewhat better for freestyle. They're still similar boards, and you might find you have a preference for some of their different qualities.
I was really dissatisfied with the build quality in general. and guys it was actually of my rapier not a scimitar sorry I was really beat when I posted the first time. My holes were not drilled correctly for the trucks to mount (they were too close together (width wise) (not length wise).
The channels routed into the bottom were all burnt out like when you use a router to slow. the finish is a joke, he also made stripes in the grip which I didn't ask for but he made one stripe full length on that was cut off in the middle of the deck, not cleanly. I took the quartz grip off after receiving my board lost right around a lb and a half, this is a lb and a half of sand. Keep in mind the rapier costs about the same as the earthwing super model just a little less then the drop speed. Sorry I know you guys all love yours for a down hill board please spend the extra 20. I mean the rapier is 120 shipped. I can't believe I paid 120 dollars. landy decks are 130 bucks free shipping from lots of places and while I don't like landy as a company due to some customer service problems the product the provide is head and shoulders better.
Have you had any "good" experiences chrisd?
Were you a bad kid and karma is doling out a little payback?
Don't worry, once you've paid your debt (and aren't racking up more sins) everything will smell like roses.
KrackedSkulls are basic finishes on a tried and true design. It's not super-hyped-high-end-finish or mass produced graphics and finish like SodaFactory or LandYachtz. You can ride 'em as received or pimp 'em out. I've got a 46" and 38" Scimitar. Purchasing was easy including an email exchange with William on the first one (46). Shipping was el Pronto. I had a blast pimping them out and have enjoyed them both for over a year now at anywhere between 209 and 235lbs.
While you're at it... Landy? I got the Dragon and Chinook from them direct with no problems. A Switch (forget who from.. maybe LBS) and the Stout from the classified. Win, Win, Win and Win again.
repeating myself from elsewhere... I ended up topmounting the 38" and it's fun factor when way up while still being a low low rider and that's on Paris no less.
Go spend 2 or 3 hundred on some custom, shiny, glossy, exotic wooded, unobtanium filled core with gas pedals and 3 different caves from the alphabet... and cry when it breaks, scratches, delams.
Or go get some KrackedSkulls, personalize it and enjoy yourself. Pretty good formula really.
