Charly No Limit Helmet Vs. Icaro Plus Helmet
So I have seen some speed boarders that use the Icaro Plus or 4fight helmet. They are a lot of money but I have saved up some money. I was wondering if the Charly No Limit helmet or the Icaro Helmets are aloud in races??

i don't think a no limit is a good idea. i could be wrong. but i'd get something else.

you are.
The charly insider is dangerous because of the long tail and weak build.
The nolimit is a popular speedboarding helmet, theres a lot of debate about using flying helmets, personally I would use one.
The long tail on some of the icaro's is not a good idea either, get a cut one.

So what would be a good speedboard helmet that isn't to heavy and isn't gonna fall apart in a couple of months? I have been speedboarding for a longtime but i haven't ever thought about getting into races. Now i want to enter some so i am trying to find good equipment that will last me.

Hum... What is the Icaro Plus?
But 2 things... DO NOT RIDE A Charly Insider
Avoid the 4fight if you are not an experienced rider... The tail don't have an autobreak.
All the rest is good

So what other options do i have for helmets?

Re: Charly No Limit Helmet Vs. Icaro Plus Helmet
4fight cut, skyrunner and No-limit are THE flying helmets that rule for speedboarding.
I got the 4fight cut because it fits me best and I like the look of it more than the others, but its all individual.
(afaik only races that don't allow flying helmets is Timeship races, so if you plan on attending those you might look into some light MX helmets with DOT/Snell, but keep in mind that those will still be heavy and well.. heavy)
I hate signatures, so i turned them off

check out some snowmobile helmets... often they are MX helmets with dot that are lighter than full motorbiking ones with bigger peripheral vision.

Re: Charly No Limit Helmet Vs. Icaro Plus Helmet
What about the races in California, do they allow Icaro and Charly Helmets?
-
Re: Charly No Limit Helmet Vs. Icaro Plus Helmet
Once again, as long as the races AREN'T being held by Timeship Racing, ICaro and Charly helmets are allowed. IGSA (governing body of the majority of races here in CA) only requires a full face helmet, with some sort of non-glass eye protection, so you could get a open full face, and just wear sunglasses or something.
Personally I rock an Icaro Skyrunner, and I couldn't be any happier with it.
In regards to the 4 Fight, I have recently heard of a speedboarder who landed straight onto the tip of the tail, and the helmet cracked straight down the middle, with no neck trauma at all. Granted, I have also heard stories of people getting hurt because of the tail.

Re: Charly No Limit Helmet Vs. Icaro Plus Helmet
i think all of them do. its just timeship that requires DOT rated helmets. IGSA, GSI, etc..... allow whatever.

Re: Charly No Limit Helmet Vs. Icaro Plus Helmet
Both are allowed in races. An Icaro Skyrunner helmet saved my life. +1 for the Icaro.

I took a bad fall on 5/24/2008 at Mt. Baker, went off the road and fell down the side of the mountain. I went into a coma, badly broke my pelvis, lacerated my liver and almost died on the mountain AND later in the hospital. The rehabilitation therapists had to teach me how to do everything again...everything.
I survived that mountain because of my helmet...WEAR ONE and send your family to the hospital, not the morgue.

Re: Charly No Limit Helmet Vs. Icaro Plus Helmet
Im deciding between the 4fight long tail and the 4fight cut. Still spectacle about the long tail's "safeness" but i think the long tail looks more aero.

Re: Charly No Limit Helmet Vs. Icaro Plus Helmet
check out the thread "what helmet was graham wearing at maryhill?" i don't know how i feel about paragliding helmets i've heard the paragliders don't trust even trust them..
my friend who paraglides says he has no idea why speedboarders trust them. some have had really good experiences .. others have not so you make the call. i personally have a 661 full comp and love it maybe check that out. just to clarify i have never used a para helmet i only base my opinions off what i have read and what my paragliding friend told me.

Re: Charly No Limit Helmet Vs. Icaro Plus Helmet
I think georges siddiqi more than proved that the paragliding helmets really don't provide much of an advantage at all. He qualified 10th (not quite sure about the exact placement but it was something close to that) at maryhill in a 661.
