Default the quest to build the world's fastest longboard

For the June issue of CW, we will be profiling a number of manufacturers who are responsible for creating truly insanely FAST product.

I'd like to hear from you..and some of your comments will wind up in the piece.

What decks do consider the VERY best for handling high speeds?
    What wheels work the best?
What trucks give the best stability and can be relied on time and time again?
What bearings are the fastest? Not just simply fast, but blazing?

And by the way, it is my sincere intention to go to the vendors you've named, collect the compnents, build a complete or two and give them away to a few lucky readers...

if we can get 4000+ views on a 12 year old wanted to longboard, surely we can get this cooking !

depends on what the rider likes..

i dont have enough experiance with speedboards to say for me, but im sure we'll see alot of posts about bigzigs and magun/jimz trucks.

hopefully there won't be too many people saying the dervish..

I think the boards that seem to be the fastest are: Rayne Demonseed, Insect Firefly

Fastest wheels I've put under my feet are the Fishballs ... so Powerballs in the real world?

So far Bear trucks are the most stable I've used.

Purple Skunk PS rollers are the fastest bearings I've set foot on. That or Bones Reds.

so my noob opinions have been voiced ...

    Top end fast?
    Rogers-bros CUSTOM!

    With Randal Comp 2s / precision 10mm trucks......and 97mm Flys or larger???
You'd have to have a super hill, obviously, to challenge such a rig, seeing as the faster guys have been doing it on smaller DH wheels.

    Just a little creative thinking.

let's see, so far the people that have gone the fast have been riding equipment such as foam core boards/carbon fiber boards like rayne CF hellcat and CLB foamie top mount, CNCd trucks like maguns, kahalanis, smokies, and conferates, as for wheels, i dunno i have no idea

obviously a bias opinion but the landyachtz evo with smokies and a high rebound wheel ie. BigZigs. The board has proven it's self time and time again. and is it ever fun to ride.

I was serious (not about the Quadline ) --- if K-Rimes has been comfortable on a board at 75mph++ whatever his record was, then his setup must have tried and true elements / field-tested reality.

As far as speculation-- Abec11 83 or 90mm's in a harder durometer, Swiss ceramic bearings, any of the top precision trucks-- Maguns or Talons. Then some deck with stiff flex, like Martin's Airflow, the main crit being what fits the riders stance/tuck. Once you're past a certain speed, and assuming a straight-ahead course, no turns, good surface conditions, a heavier deck would help with momentum, right? So a Rogers board in that case. An ultra-aero set of leathers / body suit will get increasingly important as the speeds go supersonic...

IF the ride is just straight. and perfect road condish.

    nice heavy deck (roger bros)
    Fixed trucks for stability
    97flys in 99a
and some heat resistant bearing. Ceraimics most likley.

I think this question is too opinion oriented to get a definitive answer. I suppose anything light and stable. Also some precision trucks, and mildly hard wheels.

i think there are ways to weight a board properly to give it better exceleration as well as sability at higher speeds and that can help dampen all at the same time... working on it right now...

i know a lot of people are runnin 70 mm wheels to go fast, this doesnt make sence to me but that is whats happening, and depending on the hill, the excelleration out of the corners can out weight the momentum you would get from a bigger wheel...

rockered, properly weighted, lowered, and a little flimzy in a dampening way... that imho will return the highest speeds as far as the board goes

wow. this thead has some interesting posts for the question....

the rogers bros 3 piece (with both deck dropping spacers in) JimZ hangers and plates. (easily the fastest accelerating board ive ever owned or ridden, but overall speed doesn't have much or anything to do with the board)

the wheels is a bit harder. i would think for all around DH 80a 81mm nineballs (yes, their wonderful and stick longer then lime bigzigs) or 81a 83mm flys (i love this wheel)

and i feel like 10mm bearings accelerate faster, and ceramics would reduce heat, so 10mm heat treated axles on those JimZ hangers (200mm wide)

and i think that the 82.5a white JimZ bushings tighten down a bit would be great for stability and cornering.

(i havent ridden on kahas or maguns, so i cant test this against them for preformance, ive heard people swear by kahas....)

Heavy, low, big wheels, stable trucks, ceramic bearings, floating axels incase of bearing seize.

something light, stiff, good concave so its comfortable up to speed, trucks don't really matter as long as you know how to handle them, and some big wheels in a somewhat harder duro.

carbon hellcat with precision trucks, ceramic bearings, and maybe 83 fly's
