    Default Buying first longboard

Alright.. I've been looking at longboards for fun and transportation and I've been looking at boards like sector 9, arbor, and landyachtz

I'm 6', 230-240lbs with no boarding experience. I want to use the board as a way to get around town faster than walking and have a good time... I'm in a town/small city now and I'm moving to a city with lots of bike lanes so I figure that I'll be boarding around.. I don't know exactly what I'll want to do with it, and i'll probably eventually enjoy carving around or something... I understand the importance of good equipment and was planning on spending around 200.00 for something durable and excellent.. I think ease of pushing is a concern of mine...though this may not be difficult on any of the boards, I just wouldn't know.. I've got strong legs so I'm not terribly worried but I'd love to be able to cruise comfortably and quickly around town
Also - drop-down boards or through-mounted trucks... how important are these and does the low deck ever pose a problem?
    wedges?
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions..board lengths or models?w
I was thinking 40+ inches, right? I'm a big guy so I don't want to be too cramped or overwhelm the board...yknow?

    Edit:
I'm amazed that I havent bought a board yet
    thanks everyone

any other ideas? is the rule of thumb that any board over 100something bucks is going to have components of high quality?

any comments on my buying expensive wheels? Bigzigs? (sorry if I got the name wrong, late night)

well so far from what i've seen is that most good quality boards are over 100 something bucks. big zigs are excellent wheels they really do eat up rough pavement (except for 86a from my experience) but if you are planning on going with the super charger I think you would get wheelbite.

Go for something with nice big soft wheels, and perhaps a drop through for ease of pushing. a board with wheel cut outs or something of the sort will stop you having wheel bite. Maybe a loaded dervish or insect mosquito?? They both seem pretty popular for the kind of skating you're talking about.
Other wise just search the popular brands (they're usually popular for a reason) and once you find something you like, ask the forums... after you search the forums of course

Loaded Vanguard Flex 1 with Paris 180 (good and turny for pedestrian slolam) and BigZig Lime (Very nice for cruising and commuting)

Many online stores carry this set up (thelongboardstore.com, MileHighSkate.com, Loadedboards.com)

Or look at the Bustin Complex, very customizable and good for commuting

    Bustin Boards Longboard Co.

holy crap. these are cheap and amazing. best board i have riden.
you will save tons of money with this and you get pretty sick hardware.

if you are interested ask william (the board maker) and out the kracked skulls "scimitar" model.
