Default New to site and New to Longboarding...

Ok I've really wanted to get into longboarding for awhile now. Anybody got any suggestions on a beginners deck. I really just want it to cruise the town. No hills really. I basically just want something on the cheaper end that is a good town cruiser with lots of room, smooth ride, and turns fairly easy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for the help in advance.

    Links would be much appreciated

    Thanks,
    Tim

If you like sector 9, the godess of speed is a great board (in my opinion). It is a good size and has rather nice concave. Great when paired with either randal or paris 180mm trucks.

Really good deal. I would change the wheels though.

a very good 1st board/setup (and then some) for what you're after, imho:

Do I need bearing spacers? What are bearing spacers?

Spacers can't hurt. I believe they are in place so that you may tighten your axle nuts all the way, and if you have washers as well there will be no adverse affect on the bearings (ie, they stay exactly in place, and aren't pressed too tighly by the nut). With your nuts fully tightened (hehehe) your wheels stay snugly in place while carving/cruising it up.

Go with an S9 between 35-42 ish but swap the wheels and trucks for something a bit better, and grab some Reds for your bearings and you'll be set.

I have a 'Reflections' (46") and I love it's design - a spoon nose with a kicktail. The tail is a bit huge but it's great for turning and riding off curbs, and if I can muster one an ollie. That's just my preference, you can get by fine without one but it's something to consider - especially if you (used to) ride a 'newschool' board.

+1 for this. i have that exact superglider set-up and i love it to death. it's a great all-round board and mile high sets it up to run perfectly as soon as you open the box it came in! plus, it already comes with spacers. mark knows what ya need. and if what ya need is a board a bit longer than 38", mark has the supercharger too! http://www.milehighskates.com/catalo...oducts_id=1420

Not sure if you mean the Goddess or Reflections, TH, but S9 (as far as decks go, imho) aren't as bad as people make them out to be. The EW would be a solid setup that is going to last you a long time, and I have a feeling you'd love it - but if you're anything like me you'll get an S9 because they're cheap - like the budgie.

The site has 1-4 views of all their decks, that's how I eventually chose mine for what I wanted. And I believe all decks except bamboo or around $80 without trucks/wheels. That was what sold me on it, as bad as that sounds
Take a look and check 'em all out, then order or find a local retailer.

I am surprised the first board mentioned wasn't a Kracked Skulls.

    www.krackedskulls.com

$121, pretty on the cheap for good equipment. I haven't ridden one, but lots of folks sing the praises.

I still think 8sacred8/BlackRider are right about the Earthwing though. You would probably keep it longer.
