rake is when either the front or back of the board is higher than the other
the fsm does not have a rake, however it does have rocker.

Default Looking for my first longboard.

Hey, I am new to longboarding and looking to buy my first longboard. I enjoy snowboarding, and am pretty good at it. So I'm looking for a board that rides pretty similar to a snowboard that carves well, and is also capable a flatland riding. I am 5'11" and I weigh about 140 pounds. Any advice you may ahve on some longboards that would be good for me would be really helpful. Thanks.

My first board was a sector 9 Joel Tudor. It's a great board for riding around and carving, perfect first longboard. You might want to avoid some of the higher performance boards, which might look appealing, but might not be for you (might break the bank too)

Sector 9 makes some quality longboards at a reasonable price, so definitely give them a look.

Yes, it really does. I feel alot safer and more stable with my Bears flipped, but you're sacrificing a lot of turning ability in the process. If I were you, I would keep them unflipped unless you're planning on taking on some pretty gnar hills(30mph+), and even then you could probably keep them unflipped once you get used to higher speed skating.

What's the difference between a regular indy truck vs a hybrid indy truck?

Just wondering since I ordered my Superglider with what I think was regular indy's.

a quick question on bearing cleaning, would bleach work as a cleaner? i sort of thought it would corrode the metal somehow. i never tried it, it kinda just popped into my head. so, would it work?

I'd stay away from bleach, I can't give you a scientific reason why but it's just something I would definitely not want in contact with my bearings since it's a corrosive substance. Mineral spirits generally do the best (and are cheap). Acetone, even lighter fluid does the trick (as long as it's additive-free) and is generally easier to get your hands on. But any hardward store should carry acetone.

So, here it is. I have never done any sort of skateboarding. I am a surfer. But I haven't surfed in a while, so I got this idea to start longboarding to keep on my toes with balance and turning. And cause longboarding just looks fun in general. I do not know ANYTHING about skating. I went to a store to learn about it and the employees knew very little. Here is what i want:
A board that is fairly easy to keep your balance on
a board I can carve real tight on
I live in a flat area, but i frequently visit a place with some hardcore steep hills, so something between a cruiser and a downhill board

what kind of trucks should i get? What shape? Length? Wheel size? What should my board be made out of (I was thinking the one made with maple and carbon fiber on tope and bottom. Those are cool cause they are all bendy)

    what do you think?

who the hell are you? I've given up on monitoring this thread as closely as I have in the past, but this is one of the worst posts I've seen in a while.
The dervish might be fun for all of two minutes, but as a bunch of people will tell you there are numerous other boards from other companies, which are made better and cost less

To the person with the question:
sounds like you'd be more inclined to a board that isn't too flexy, especially if you're gonna be using it on some hills. Other than that almost any board is going to suit you pretty well. One's that I can think of off the top of my head that you might particularly like include: Earthwing supercharger, earthwing supermodel, landyachtz switch, Rayne nemesis, comet voodoo
