chaser: i ride the evo and i love it. like i said, im 130 and have no problem doing anything with it. i've also ridden the hellcat and liked that too. it felt quicker and mor agile than the evo. however i havent had any extensive riding with this board so i cant give a real proper review on it. so i definately reccomend the evo and would say the hellcat is an excellent choice. But those boards you make sound preatty epic i must say so i wouldnt be surprised if you end up liking the ones you make better.
KAKA: according to my calendar it is infact that time of the month again.
but on a more serious note, it seems like ever since malakai dominated the "you arent real skateboarders" thread, people have decided that angry threads are useful in some way to the fish. it seems like instead of coming on here to get good info and talk about longboarding, people are jsut getting on here so they can vent about random stufff.

kaka: i have no idea about the grombiz thing, i'm assuming they are made in australia, but their distributer is in the US, and maybe dont have an australian distributer yet
and as far as the you arent a skateboarder thread. this happens more often in the winter, cause people cant get out and skate, so they get ticked off over nothing on the internet instead.

Re: NOOB Questions Answered By Dopamine David
well my boss just gave me 20 sq. yards of carbon fiber and 16 of fiberglass. and three full sheets of spyder foam that we didnt need so i might just make my own board again this season, although i is a little cold out with the snow here in wa so im not sure about trying to laminate right now. ill keep researching and if i end up making my own deck again this year you will see it up here labled as a GLORIA custom.
So I traveled in a wagon with George W. Bush, Dick Cheaney, John Ashcroft, and Condoleezza Rice. During the journey, the group encountered a case of cholera, a broken arm, two wagon fires, one fever. Condoleezza Rice got fleas and died, but that's because she was having relations with the oxen. Dick Cheaney got bitten by a snake. Ashcroft - he ended up dying of dysentery. and bush got killed by indians. but thats the Oregon Trail for you.

Re: NOOB Questions Answered By Dopamine David
Dopamine David: I'm messing around with board-building, and my neighbor is extremely familiar with construction -- he owns his own business, though I'm not exactly sure what he does.. Anyway, I asked him about 1/8" thick sheets of wood, and he said they were called doorskins, thin sheets of wood that are very flexible, thus the reason they are chosen for board building. I was wondering if doorskin was the proper term for this thickness? I don't want to walk out of a store with the wrong materials.
Also, I assumed when you press a board, the grain of all the plys would be facing one way. Then I came upon a thread in which people were talking about how to lay it out, ie. vertical-horizontal-horizontal-vertical. Could you clarify this for me? (Not sure if I got the terminology right, hope you understood my question.)
K-SHIZZ: What exactly is a bert slide? I was out practicing colemans today (thanks again for that superb advice) when a few 'kickflippers' from my neighborhood saw me, and one of them commented on my bert slide.

Re: NOOB Questions Answered By Dopamine David
chaunce: bert slide:
also if i could comment on the vertical/horizontal thing- a vertical ply is when the grain runs from tip to tail of the board and horizontal is from side to side. usually builders put in horizontal plys to give the board a bit better flex. so a board like this:
v
v
v
v
will be stiffer than
v
h
h
v
yarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrimean!?

K-SHIZZ: So they're basically the same thing, but the coleman is used on longboards to maintain or lose speed?
Thanks again.

Re: NOOB Questions Answered By Dopamine David
tinypete: I KNOW!!!! its crazy. but jase probably cant do that
chaunce: usually to burn speed before a tight corner or to do some steezy drifting. like a coleman half way then go around a corner backwards, then pendy back. but thats just for sh|ts and giggles.

chaunce: just ask for 1/8th inch baltic birch. it will work out best that way.
1/8th inch bb will have 3 layers of bb in it, you want it cut long grain, this will make it so the bottom layer is long grain, the middle is cross grain, and the top layer is long grain. there are some neat things you can do with changing up the layups with the cross grain, but you dont want to mess with this till you have a good 10 boards under your belt first..
shrim!@#$##*@*@&!: that looks right to me.

Re: NOOB Questions Answered By Dopamine David
Okay, well, I'm not sure, but I think I just experienced my first taste of wheelbite today. I was riding my Gravity 43" carve with Tracker dart 149's and stock Gravity 66mm wheels that came with the complete. Wedged front, dewedged rear, just installed Bones bushings so the feel is looser/deeper carving than before. Anyway, I can't get the wheels to touch while standing still even if I lean the board and jump on it, though they do come very close. But in the middle some rapid back and forth slalom style carving, the board suddenly stopped and pitched me off while I was at maximum lean without hitting any obstacle. I wasn't looking at the wheels, but I can only surmise that it was wheelbite. The slight wear marks above the wheels on the board show that the wheels have touched before (this is a used board that I just picked up), though most likely this was due to either far too loose trucks (stock bushings were hard hourglass), or some aggressive sliding. Either way, I don't wanna raise the board up anymore, I plan to get some 70mm zigs before too long, and I like loose but non-wobbly trucks with softer, reboundy bushings.
Anyway, the wheelbite isn't too dramatic and rather hard to induce, and 2mm increased radius isn't much, but I'd still like to eliminate the possibility of wheelbite altogether, as I've been riding alot more conservatively since then. I'd like to know if I can simply take some sandpaper, and work on the wheel-worn spots on the deck a bit and shape some wheel-wells, if this would require actual cutting and then sanding, or if its the kind of thing that I shouldn't do at all. Seems like it would work just sanding it, but I don't want to mess up the plies or make it delaminate or anything...
I am currently in the period of introductions, reading, and learning the unique sense of humor of this particular community that is colloquially referred to on t3h interwebz as being a "n00b", at least to Silverfish. So I apologize for any misconceptions relating to the sarcasm, ignorance, or perceived annoyance relating to the above post.
43" Gravity Carve, Tracker Dart 149's, Retro Lime Freerides, feels good!

Re: NOOB Questions Answered By Dopamine David
cruiserdude: if you want to go with bigger wheels, i think you'll need to actualy do wheel cutouts, nut just sanding in wheel wells, to keep with 66mm wheels then add some wheel wells, it wont cause a delam, so it will be fine. but your choices are really either smaller whees, raising the trucks, harder bushings or wheel wells. so whatever you want to do there. i'd probably sand in wheel wells and stay with 66mm wheels personaly.
texas: top washer looks fine to me, but you'll know better when you ride, if it is deforming the bushing then change it. a bottom washer will give you more rebound and less lean, so that kind of depends on how you want it to feel, but it is not totaly neccesary
chaser: get the rumrunner, its an awesome board
