Re: NOOB Questions Answered By Dopamine David
I don't know about you guys but I dig the name "Dopamine Dave" it sounds cool, I also don't really care who answers my n00b question. I liked this thread cause sometimes I have questions for which I know I would get dissed out of my mind for in other threads, but I still wanna ask them, so stop stressing and answer my n00b questions k? I know this is a good one:
When using drop-through mounting on a deck, I have used aluminum washers that are used for rooftop nails on the bottom on my deck so the nut does not press into the wood when tightened. I have seen another solution on SF for this which is a metal plate or strip (as long as your truck) with holes which goes where my washers are now. So instead of 4 washers you will have two plates. Do they make these? what are they called? where can I get some?

I disagree. They just need more people answering in here. Personally, I think most people should be allowed to answer in here. It might be easier if the designated answering people could sift through the wrong ones and correct them, and contact the questioners via private message. A lot of people on this forum are more than qualified to answer here. This thread still has its uses. It just needs to be reworked.

Thanks. Actually, JimZ responded to my post on Coast and said that there isn't any difference between the two other than color. You were correct, they are both delrin. Thank you very much for the info.

point well taken and i agree,my argument was just to point out that there are allot of good members here qualified to answer questions not just those appointed by dave.
that being said daves views and opinions were respected as he did offer good advice,no one can deny that.
seemed most of us also respected his authority on who could answer in this thread and who couldnt at the time.
carry on with the noob questions

Re: NOOB Questions Answered By Dopamine David
I can't speak for David, since, well, I haven't talked to him in a while now, but I know he has been rather busy with work, trying to get things back in order since the economy went into the tank.
Personally I too have been working through a lot of personal #### that has kept me from perusing the interwebz like I used to. Haven't skated in far too long also, and that's sad.
This thread was originally created to stabilize some of the bulletin anarchy that goes on when new users arrive and recycle old questions. The vets generally don't care to answer (much less even see) the questions, because of how often they reappear. I don't know whether it would be better to close this one or keep it open for the people who still have time to contribute, and that's not my decision to make anyway. But if you are a "noob," your opinion is regardless not needed in THIS thread. Your questions are.
LESS HATE, MORE SKATE.

Re: NOOB Questions Answered By Dopamine David
everyone has there own knowledge i would rather ask pavedwave about ldp then foxen and foxen about downhill over someone who only knows slalom.
if someone is simply directing a member to appropriate area or person then no need to flip out.
now we are all doing what we didnt want to begin with which is cluttering so ..
noob questions carry on....

I'm not saying any names... but jman1365 will make it clear that he thinks you are a noob for "tainting" his online friend's thread. Apparently you require special, unstated permission to post answers in the thread.
That's pretty Microsoft of him.

Hence why it should be open for answers from all skaters with experience.

Here is a good source of information on building Baltic Birch boards.
How to make a Longboard
It's best viewed if you sign up for the site, though you don't have to. I'm not advertising the site, it's just a great resource to keep in the bookmarks.
I personally would use 3, but I'm 190lbs. Remember, you are using 1/4" thick wood. That means your board will be 3/4" thick when you finish.
I've build boards that were 1" thick and made of cedar. It's not that big of a deal. You may need to hit up a hardware store and pick up eight 1.75" 10 32 UNC machine bolts.
You could probably get away with 2 ply BB. 3 will be stronger.
What type of riding will you be doing on it?
