I;m going to have to give this a nice bumpity bump as well. lots of great info condensed into one thread, I agree that it should be stickied, which unfortunately probably won;t cut back much on the repeat threads anyway but will be great for the noobs who come across it.

Scooby Doo n Sticky Doo!!!
Make it a sticky please, even alone for the fact that this is an amazing and informative write-up!
And obviously it does help people choosing their boards, see HolyRollr.
Re: What wheels/deck/trucks/bushings/bearings should I get for #insert discipline#?!?
Sticky it up!
But I do recommened making a new thread; and putting all of that into the first opening post so you dont have to look through posts to find your discipline; and you can make it all pretty and color coded with html too =D
Re: What wheels/deck/trucks/bushings/bearings should I get for #insert discipline#?!?
whoa this helped heaps. all nooblets should look at this thred instead of making millions of "what wheels to get" threads (although i cant say i havent done this myself).
this shud be stickied

Bump for sticky, I'm just starting to branch out into different disciplines and this was some great info.
I would like to suggest splitting the sliding section into 2 guides, 1) Hard wheel sliding, 2) Soft wheel sliding.
cheers.

And when running slaloms shaped wheels, running a higher duro that 81a is very popular since the shape is already grippy, a higher duro (83-84a) is often preferred so that you still can have a smooth drift as well as faster roll speed. 75a for downhill is too soft imo unless the road condition is absolutely terrible or on a wheelwith a large core and little urethane depth (flywheel for rexample)
good thread though
I have to agree with Pat. For example, I sold my Pink BigZigs and got Limes, and then I went ahead and radiused them. Anything other than a windy course I would want radiused, or round lipped wheels to speed check corners and predrift more easily.
Re: What wheels/deck/trucks/bushings/bearings should I get for #insert discipline#?!?
Tip for picking trucks: it just depend on how much stability or turning capability you want for example horizontal kingpin trucks have more stability and less turning capability then vertical kingpin trucks, but vertical kingpin trucks are taller and usually have less stability but have way more turning capability, as for bushings its all personal preference there really are no "best" trucks or bushings just do some research and decide what works for you

I'm going to have to disagree on this part. The range of wheelbases should be from anywhere between 28-34 inches.
Lots of people like to use boards with smaller wheelbases for better cornering ability (i.e 09 avenger) and any wheelbase past 34 is just wayy to big.
