What wheels/deck/trucks/bushings/bearings should I get for #insert discipline#?!?

What wheels/deck/trucks/bushings/bearings should I get for #insert discipline#?!?
Re: What wheels/deck/trucks/bushings/bearings should I get for #insert discipline#?!?
two questions one relating to the thread and one not.
I want to get in to slalom and what zigzags should i get for this? lime, orange, yellow or the see-thru red ones?
second question is how does stuff get "sticky'ed"? cause sometimes i think a thread should be stickyed and dont know how to make a sticky. thanks
Re: What wheels/deck/trucks/bushings/bearings should I get for #insert discipline#?!?
Hmmm well, pretty standard is lemon up front and lime in the back, I see that a fair bit. It should be good and then you can play around later if you need to tweak something.
Stickying is done by the admins so you can't do it. You can subscribe to threads though, which kind of gives you your own sticky list.

I've come to hate Khiro bushings. (not their wedges though.)

Those are strong words.
The addition of Reflex, Venom and Sabre has definitely upped the ante with new shapes, sizes and newer (better) urethane formulas.
Re: What wheels/deck/trucks/bushings/bearings should I get for #insert discipline#?!?
At the risk of being told to get off my ass and swap bushings all day to find out for myself what is it about the Khiros that pegs your suckmeter?
My get out of jail card: I'd swapped out the top pumpkin on my Chinook/grizzlies with a sabre. Yes, I was now able to carve it a little. However I then discovered this started getting squirrely approaching 25mph and I cranked it down. Well 8ft, that's pretty stupid to crank the soft cone to deformity trying to eliminate wobbles. So I put it back to stock. Imagine that! Landyachtz stock setup works really nice when the deck is ridden the way it's intended. Of course, then one of my 50lb groms (who worships the Chinook) started to take it for our little dip runs yesterday but went back to the garage. He didn't think he wanted to ride it .... because he couldn't turn it. HA! I loosened the trucks for him and he could turn a little without falling off the side trying to get a lean.
Just a little anecdotal prattle from the nooby cheapseats.

Khiros have lower compression and rebound than others now on the market. Plus they are too short for most reverse kp trucks so you have to shim them with washers, annoying.

Damn!! I've got a lot of Khiros now and have put some on as well. Maybe I better look again and make sure they didn't/don't need some shim(s).

Swapping bushings all day is good for you. I have often engaged in it along with using he exact number and thickness of washers so that the hanger face meets the bushing prfectly straight on! Certainly when setting up a new board (and it's a lot faster than swapping out all the different wedges and risers that I do as part of the process too!)
When Khiros first cane out I thought they were a godsend. That was back in the day of the old solid yellow Randals which would crack and disintegrate on their first serious session (and yes I knew about using flat washers.) Tracker Stimulators were out of production and the stock Trackers and Indys were rock hard and/or pretty unresponsive along with most other shortboard bushings.
I used tall Bones Hardcores bottom bushings for just about everything and at $20 for four of then they were pretty expensive. I was always in need of a decent bottom barrel so I used lathed green and green/blue Stimulators but they were hard to come by. I actually liked the big red Force bottom barrels and used them on my Grizzlies.
At any rate blue and red Khiros were OK enough when they came out so I started using them because they came around just about the time that the last Stimulators were completely drying up. (I still kick myself for not buying tons of Eric Wallgren's stock when he was liquidating his entire stash of lathed Stims for cheap.)
The Khiro inserts have always been inferior to Bones.
Venoms were great and comparable to the old Stims so I use them now in combination with a tall Bones top. I've got some Venom Eliminators I'm going to try out on my poor mans zero degree 215's as soon as I get around to putting it together which might be as soon as later on today.
My son (a died in the wool Randal fan and a much better skater than I) finds the recent third gen stock Randal bushings just fine and he pretty much considers the inmates of Silverfish (or at least me) to be a collection of psychotic OCD gear whores.
So yeah, I find Khiros pretty bland and unresponsive (although the orange barrels aren't too bad if you're looking for a way soft bushing.)
PS - I've got a drawerful of unused Bones top bushings in all three duros (even going back to the colored urethane) if any one is interested.

Most excellent feedback and worthy of must read.
MHM told me about the Bones and I snagged a couple sets of those. Too bad they're all in sets but I (apparently like you) only wanted/needed one side. How'd you end up with so many tops? Only using the bottoms or just bought a butt load of tops when they were your current fav?
Shimming is a question - when you add washers to shim, does it matter if you use nylon or metal when stacking?

By not using them except on a couple of stock Indys. I usually install longer kingpins.

Some people say so but I find thin metal washers bend and thick nylon washers to be just as good as thick metal ones.

Mile High Skates is currently out of the 84a Wheel but a broken in 80a would still do. But a good quality wheel AND bearings for 37 bucks is hard to beat.
Re: What wheels/deck/trucks/bushings/bearings should I get for #insert discipline#?!?
actually, you can get GFH retro wheels for 15$ + shipping. they are pretty sick and grippy and the small contact patch allows for nice slides. i prefer them to grav. drifters. just type wheeldeal in as the coupon
