Re: Newb Question: 1st board, Dervish or Superglider?
The Superglider is very popular for cruising + carving. I've never taken it DH, but I'm sure you could do it. Since it's a lot stiffer than the Dervish (and, depending on your setup, possibly just as low or lower) it'll be more stable.
I have a Superglider w/ Indy 169 trucks (1/2" riser) and 72mm 78a Powerball wheels. It's a bit high - I'll prob switch to some 66mm wheels and maybe 1/4" riser, but the board is great. 38" is more than enough space so long as you don't plan to do any extensive dancing.
Very comfortable concave, and it has just a tiny amount of flex to feel plush when you're carving.
