You find yourself standing at the top of the hill with your board in your hand. You start wondering if this will be the first of many or the last of them all.

Re: longboard on airplane
Well I heard you many people have brought their boards on a plane before, and I believe you can fit in above your seat in that luggage storage area. I would just put it in last to make sure your sick KS board doesn't get ****ed by those heavy bags

The limit is 45 inches...but you could probably slip by. I wouldnt want to check that bad boy.

Re: longboard on airplane
If you can fit it under the seat or in the overhead compartment, you'll have no problem. Taking the trucks off makes it more fit-able as well.

Re: longboard on airplane
I have flown cross country many times with my old 46' pin, DONT CHECK IT, try to bring it along as a carry on. once they said i couldn't bring it on when i tried to get on the plane and they were forced to check it for me for free, sometimes it fits other times the fligh attendents put it in a little closet that they have. but i repeat, please dont pay to check it, you will be risking messing up your board when in all likelyhood you can just bring it on...its not like they can tell you ya cant bring it on.
ps; I never took the trucks off, (it was a little awkward at times, but nothing not caring about awkwardness coulden't take care of)

Re: longboard on airplane
my brother and i both took our boards on a plane before. albeit they were only 42in. we stored them in the overhead compartment and nobody seemed to mind. as long as it fits in the overhead.
i agree with ridesnow. i think that taking the trucks off would make it seem less obtrusive; if the ppl on the airline are giving you attitude about it. worth a try, wouldnt want to check it

Re: longboard on airplane
Search, retard.
longboard on airplane?
Longboard on airplane?
board on the airplane?
Traveling on an airplane with your boards.
Edit to add new information: I've flown with my Superglider a few times this year. It doesn't seem to be a problem on domestic flights. I'll just carry it on and throw it in the overhead bin. International is a different story. I flew to Paris last week and carried it on the flight there and had to check it on the flight back (It's apparently big enough to be used as a weapon). It came down the conveyor with some of the stickers peeled off and reapplied, which is irritating but ultimately harmless.
Your best bet is to bring it to the gate and just walk right on with it like it isn't a thing. Just in case, be sure to label it with your name and contact info.

Re: longboard on airplane
Just took a 38" on US Air last week- took trucks and wheels off, put them in my checked luggage, and wrapped the ends of the deck w/cardboard. Nobody said a thing. Your 45" should also fit in the overhead the same way. If there's a problem, they'll probably "gate-check" it if the overheads are full. Good luck!

Re: longboard on airplane
I too have taken my board (heist) on a plane trip to San Fran and it was cool. When I walked trough the metal detectors I ran through the conveyer and then carried to the plane and placed it over head. It's really no big deal as long as you don't make it.

Re: longboard on airplane
if they ask tell them its filled with pure cocaine and the wheels are highly explosive plastic explosives,
tell them to fly to maryhill,
no questions asked
wait nevermind dont do that
thats a bad idea
just throw it in the overhead
tell us how it goes

Tell them you want to bomb some hills with it, and they'll let you through.

Re: longboard on airplane
Ok. My friends and I flew with our boards over break with no problem whatsoever (46" s9 goddess and an insect mosquito)
First - You should take your hangers/wheels off for sure, and possibly your baseplates (although we flew with baseplates no problems)
Second - Just tell the check in people that you are going to gate check it (or make up whatever B.S. you want) just tell them that you fly all the time and that you always do this and it's always worked and no one has ever cared before.
Third - Put it through the x-ray machine
Fourth - When you get on the plane ask the person scanning tickets for a gate check ticket
Fifth - Get on the plane with your board, tell everyone you fly all the time and have always carried it on without any problems
Sixth - Most overhead bins are all connected (with like supporting triangles between them, but they have giant cutouts in them) and just slide your board up in there no problems. Voila

Re: longboard on airplane
i agree w/ what the previous poster just said. I recently flew continental to texas back in february and brought my 33" loaded fish. i wanted to bring my dervish, 42", but i felt too nervous, since the new restrictions technically say say that all of the measurements need to be less than 43", L+W+H. I've heard of people bringing bigger boards on, but personally i didn't want to.
but yeah, just act normal, tell them up front you want to gate check it, and they'll be very accommodating. One stewardess said that technically, i'm not allowed to have anything with wheels (but what about suitcases...) on the storage up top, but she let me put it behind the last seat on the plane. no problem.

Re: longboard on airplane
I've taken my board on El Al flights and had no problems so far. El Al are probably one of the most security concious airlines ever. I just took the hangers off and stuck them in my checked luggage and walked on with the board. Once they took it away for the duration of the flight and stuck it in a locked cubby hole thing but apart from that it's always been fine.

How about picking up a giant hockey bag and toss it in with your clothes, that's what I've always done.

Re: longboard on airplane
Hey, I did a search and dug this up. I'm going to try to walk on to a Continental flight tomorrow with my 46" Bomb Hills. Has anything changed since March?
