    Default The latest from Stickman Skates

    Hey fishies. We've been busy cooking up some new bamboo shapes down at the Alamo. Emerging from a cloud of magic bamboo and fiberglass dust (and itchy as hell) come two new boards.

    First up is the "Main Attraction". Born from seven hour sessions, this is the one board that can do it all. It's designed around 45* trucks (sabres whenever they're released) and has the ability to run In heats, big zigs, 74mm race forms, or any other wheel under 76mm. It's 40" long, a hair shy of 10" wide, with a 31.5" wheelbase. Two flexes are being experimented with, one stiffer (but rock solid), and one with a bit of flex, close to a flex 1 vanguard.

    Second, we have the "Premier". This board rips. It's a shorter, slightly narrower version of the "Main Attraction" designed to kill garages and tear up city streets. Measuring up at 39" long by 9.5" wide on a 29" wheelbase, it's ready for anything. The flexes on this board haven't been finalized yet.

    These are both prototypes still, with lots of testing to be done before they're all grown up. Currently we're also working on two dropthrough designs, one shorter and slopestyle oriented, and a second a longer downhill dragster. Earlier prototypes might be sold for materials cost along the way.

    Thanks to LittleGreenRock for the bamboo advice!

    Skateboarding is running out of ideas. Two similar boards one a dh board and one smaller with a little flex. Sound like a bamboo mm/boomerang. Mind you I am not trying to insult you, you very well may have come up with this idea on your own but like really I can't figure out a single way to progress skating. Hope it doesn't die out again.

    Also those look dope.

    Thanks for the compliments!

    Minimaniac: I used 1/8" bamboo ply from bamboo hardwoods. They're really tight to work with and will cut it for you (but charge for it).

    Kenny: I totally agree with you about the running out of ideas thing. I devloped these shapes myself over the years, and have the template trail to show for it, but again, there is only so much you can change without really innovating anything.

    I really dig both of these, and the shapes especially! I also like the construction;

    my only gripe about these...i see you're going for simpler graphics on the bottom, which some people like, but i think a little more would be awesome. idk, maybe some trees or birds and #### like loaded boards (lol i'm kidding).

    But some graphics would be nice, enough, but not too m uch as it covers the bamboo (it looks nice )

    oh yeah, a little suggestion;

    multiple wheelbase options on the tail would be pretty cool and functional!

    Lufty the sand grip and simple graphics are just because it's cheaper and easier to test. When I get them into production I'll do more on the bottoms, hotcoats, ect. And any custom would be easy to do for anyone interested. I've been thinking about multipule wheelbases, I'll let you know on that one. And I'm still working getting the flexes worked out.

    Locer, there's fiberglasss top and bottom, which seals the board.

    The latest one...

    Changes include new concave mold, more concave, a pretensioned top skin, and a graphic that bled hardcore.

    Update:

    Thanks for the feedback! I took some of your suggestions into consideration in the final prototype models.

    The shape and construction of the renamed "Giant Squid" deck have been for the most part finalized, and a pre-production run of 10 boards will be done in the near future. These will come in two lengths and two flexes, stiff and really stiff. The stiff is stiffer than a flex 1 vanguard, and the really stiff will have very minimal flex (@ 170 lbs).

    Specs are:
    39.75" or 38.75" long
    32.75"to 29.75" or 31.75" to 28.75" wheelbases with 1/2" adjustment increments
    7/16" concave
    1/4" camber
    3/8" thin bamboo core with pre-tensioned fiberglass skins
    Big wheel wells that should* work with baseplate angles from 50* to 35* on with only 1/8" riser and 70mm wheels. (has not been tested with all baseplate angles)
    Pre-production price of $115, final price will be around $140

    The graphic as of now has not been finalized, and custom graphics can be done top and bottom at no extra charge.

    I won't start construction until at least 5 orders have been placed and paid. PM me or email me at stickmanmitch[at]yahoo dot com for more details or questions about placing an order.

    Been riding with the stickman himself and have gota say the boards are something else.
    He put one up for raffle at the recent austin labor day event, and ppl couldn't stop checking it out.
    I'm having him build me one with a custom flex and custom graphic, but the shape is just killer. If you get one of these things, you won't be disappointed. The "Giant Squid" delivers.

    In my experience its more of an all around, not just speed board. I bombed a almost 40mph hill on one yesterday on a setup i'd never ridden before and it felt just fine. The softer flex is just flexy enough to kinda flatten out when your on top of it, so it gives you that extra bump when carving, but isnt hard enough to throw you off when your bombing.
