    Sidewinders:

Smooth riding, and they have a good amount of momentum. They worked very nicely on the sh!tty roads of New Orleans. On the nicer paved areas I was able to lay out a few stand-up toe and heelside 180s and speed checks after only a few hundred feet of riding. The slide was loud and choppy and sometimes stunted at first, making way to much smoother slides later on. A few times on my way back home they broke out so easy it surprised me.

First impressions final comment: They are affordable and nice wheels go ahead and try them.

My opinion is subject to change so I'll provide a better review, with pics (if I feel like it), once these are broken in fully.
Sick man we should go skate, I wanna try these.

If we go back out to the hill there's probably still some thane lines out there, 20ft standers on my mini. Old 3dm thane slides pretty damn well.

So where do these venom freerides sit in comparison to the retro and otang freerides?

    IMO.

They break away faster and easier than retros. I really like reflex thane, but venom feels better on rough pavement. I was surprised at how easy they were able to slide, something that took so long with the retro.

I have not ridden otang freerides so no comment. But if anyone has some stimulus that are in good condition they want to sell/trade. Let me know.

I can. They are centerset so when you wear down on side you can flip it around. Drifters are sideset, not as easy or practical to flip.

Both have a similar slide, but I feel venoms break free and slide faster. For example, last night I was skating to the grocery store and went to do a heelside 180, the slide was so fast and easy that the board flew out from under me. This hasn't happened with drifters. I feel the drifter slide was less aggressive but much more predictable and smooth.

In my opinion they are both great wheels worth trying out. Not to mention both costing a reasonable amount of money.

I'd like to show you a wheel that has been in the making for nearly 6 months now. I wanted to make a wheel that would slide insanely smooth but that was flipable for better longevity. After months of development and testing, the SideWinder was born. At 71mm and 80, it's slide characteristics are very reminiscent of the legendary blue kryptos. Except, when these cone, you can just flip them because they are center-set.

Thinking of buying a set of these eventually... my next wheels will be these or Stimulus.
I'm getting a Hellcat quite soon, and I want something I can slide VERY easily, even at low speeds. My 83a Drifters are really nice, but not perfect, and harder to slide at pushing speeds, and they slow me down A LOT
I've been snowboarding since I was 7, and I want to be able to throw my board sideways and do spins... it just feels so awkward to me riding switch on grippy wheels, I can't even do speed checks and when I try I feel like I'm going to fall on my face. I want to be able to do speed checks and drifts riding normal, and be able to 180 back with ease if I'm going switch

it's not the wheels. it's the technique. not trying to be an ass, but i had the same prob as you when i first started out doing standers.
weight your front foot more than you think you need to (so opposite foot since you're going switch). and lean back more than you think you need to (slightly). after i started doing this i noticed i could throw switch 180s even at low pushing speeds on flat land.

Hey man, I know you're just helping, not being an ass! I know its mostly my technique, I'm still pretty new to sliding. I can heelside 180 at lower speeds, speedcheck almost as fast as I go on a normal day, and today even busted a few 4wheel checks at around 10mph. I just feel I could learn faster on something easier to break free at lower speeds, and if these are that wheel, then I want some. I'm using my Drifters ALL THE TIME now and I love them, but they aren't perfect. I need something I want somethign soft, that will last a long time, and will be easy to check and do slides at lower speeds, for when I'm cruising or practicing. Even with my limited ability, my Drifters are wearing REALLY fast, and they wear a little oddly, and slow down so they almost stop spinning when I try to coleman at faster pushing speeds.
I used to be a hardcore slalom wheel guy, they were all I would use... then I started doing speed checks and stuff and realised its fun, and I didn't need the extra crazy grip from the sharp-lip wheels, so I converted to more "freeride" style wheels and I love them. Eventually I will try a lot and find my favourite

...Plus the Sidewinders' sweet color and eventual thane lines will be nice with the Hellcat I'm getting =P

EDIT: If not Sidewinders, I'll probably try Slashers or Otangs next...

You could always slap some Slide A's on there.

I heared from someone on here (i cant remember) that they break free easier than 80a center set Race Formulas and are uber smooth. and i do like the RF slide. so maybe what you're looking for?

Haha, no slide A's for me, I need to be able to cruuise and commute a few miles to school on these.

Anatharc, do you know how they break free compared to Drifters or Stimulus?
