I'm sorry to say, I'm sold out of the .405" spacers for 8mm axles. I sold the last set I had about a week before Christmas.

I've asked the guy who maintains the www.precisionspacers.com website for me to update it to show that status, but he's busy with a move and said he wouldn't have time for a week or two. My apologies.

Wish I could tell you where to get some in the meantime, but pickins is slim. Aera Trucks "sort of" has some, but (currently) only if you buy their trucks. I've had brief e-mail exchanges with Lee C. from Unkle and Wayne from Surf-Rodz about how either they or I can get a larger supply made for less money, but so far no solution that I'm aware of.

Since there still seems to be an unmet demand for these things, I will get back in touch with Lee and Wayne and/or try to get a few bids from new machinists to see if I can get a better price.

Thanks to everyone who's bought these and/or inquired about them. It makes me very happy when I read positive comments about them. Of course I like them and think they're a great idea, but obviously I kind of have to. So it's really gratifying to read and hear that other people sometimes think so too.

Will update again if/when I hear anything about a new supply.

If you want to describe the current process being used to produce the spacers.. I bet the fish could improve on it..

My first thought is to start with oversize conventionally produced spacers, bundle around 100 spacers, lightly clamp them from the sides, hold them down with an electromagnetic plate, and send them through the surface grinder. Flip the spacers and repeat.

    - Find a machine shop
    - CRS costs for that diameter about $1.60 a foot... divide that by .400" and you get $0.05 for material each.
    - Labour, even at $50 an hour, should put the cost at any more than $1 a piece.

Here's a breakdown for our community machinist:

Just to see how cheaply I could do it I made 24 pcs in 6mins today while waiting for another machine to cycle.

So heres how it breaks down.

    Our shop rate is $50/hour so thats $0.83 a min X 6mins = $4.98 TOTAL labour for all 24pcs

    $4.98 / 24 = $0.21 each part

$0.05 each for material (303 stainless this time, i checked and can get CRS for way cheaper then i stated before less then a dollar a foot)

= $0.26 each so lets say a whole DOLLAR a set. PLUS 100% profit, and we get to $2.00 a set and you are making money.

    $35 is retarded.

These spacers rock! you can actually CRANK your wheels down, and they still spin perfectly. even on cast trucks, I can see a huge improvement over cheap, undersized spacers

Definitely worth the money! I want all my boards to have these spacers now

    Thanks JBH!

Not at all. I've been looking for ways to simplify the process and get the price down ever since 2005. His post offered some possibilities. I sent him a PM asking for more details, and he responded with lots of good info. That's all.

    Go to PrecisionSpacers.com

He only has 3 different sizes, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out you need the 8 x .405.

I put a set of these 8mmx.405" on my Paris w/ Tunnel STR's, snugged the nut down good and it rolls like never before! I can't imagine how anyone would run w/o spacers. I've got some that came with my Bones six-ball but these are my spacers of choice.

JBH mate, if you're doing more in the future, it'd only take me a couple hours to copy that website and set up a content management system so you can update the number of spacers left yourself with ZERO technical knowledge...

You'd need 8mm axle, .405" long, i.e. the "standard" size. Unfortunately, that's what I'm sold out of at the mo. And unless/until I find someone to make them cheaper, the price hasn't gone down. If/when it does, I will certainly publicize it here and/or on the website that slide mentioned.

Gav, that's a very gracious offer, and I just might take you up on it when I get some time to spare. Do you have a Skype account? That's my preferred method for voice/video chatting, especially "across the pond." Send me a PM if you do and we can go from there.

Thank you for your above suggestion. However this is the quote I just received from a local machine shop in Sterling, VA. They recommended 304 stainless as it's available in-house, and is a stronger steel. In this instance the cost is less using the 304. There are several other machine shops in the area. I'm waiting to receive their quotes. I doubt they will quote me prices any where near what you posted. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Who is your community machinist? Additional information would be useful. Is it $50 per hour to use the equipment yourself, or to pay a machinist to make them for you? Any professional service is expensive in northern VA. I have a feeling my best option will be to order them from precisionspacers. Has anyone here found a more affordable option? Thanks in advance.
