    HAHA!

    Look what I dug up!

    Late 2008 Protos.

Im going to donate them to Kraffft works.

There's plenty of issues with these older trucks, These havn't been riden in... probably all year.
They've just been sitting outside the board shop getting beat up by the sun, wind, and rain.

    I'd fix them up myself...
But I'd rather let kraffft do it, because I bet he'd do it a bit differently then I.

    Also, an idea.

So, The other day, I was driving down my normal skateboarding run, when I saw my speedometer and I was going 20 down the hill.

Now, I've always wondered what my speed was when I board down, I've always suspected I come... Kinda close to 20 at places.

So what I did, is I just started counting on my watch how many seconds it took me to go a block going various speeds.
    15mph
    10mph
    20mph

So the next time I went skating down the run... I just counted how many seconds each block took, and I was able to estimate my max speed to be 17 mph.

All this got me thinking what OTHER ways I might be able to measure my speed.
I started thinking in terms of M/S instead of Mi/H.

Then I suddenly got the idea, What if were were to take Krafffts Graffiti/paint idea, but do it on a timer.

If your board leaves a drip of paint, or a blot of paint, or even if it sprays a huge line of paint.

If it does it an a consistant and even time, then you can use it to measure how fast you were going that paticular run.

This post isn't all that relevant to anything, but I wanted to brag a bit and I thought the followers of this thread might appreciate this..

I was allowed to raid an abandoned EE lab at my university yesterday, and I scored some pretty good stuff. Real excited about this baby:

Optics stage with very precise vertical/horizontal adjustment knobs and an angle adjustment piece. Looks like my lathe design might not be so accessible after all, har har

Some of the other things I grabbed

Vacuum pump (bye-bye, roarockit!), power supplies, variable transformer, some kind of annealing chamber controller that I grabbed for the rack mount and for all the switches/pots and a nice 10-way switch...
    Christmas came early this year.

Hey ive tried making a pair of roller skis to slide with. and wondering if anyone has played with the idea further. So far ive just played with he durometer of the wheels and having a rubber wheel in the front polyurethane in the rear and a bunch of different combinations. and for those who asked earlier... there is no real way of stopping on them unless you find a conveniently placed incline

Sounds good. I've been trying to resist the logical extreme of just having a slide sphere covering my whole hand..

Thanks for the youtube clips spesh and sk8norcal (chinese downhill and xcat).. Were there really catamaran races at one point?

It's funny actually.. I had never heard of Warren Miller before sk8norcal mentioned him.. and he had his film festival thing in Providence over the past couple days.. skipped it.

Of course I like that idea too.. you have no idea in fact..

But making gauges is seriously fun, as I discovered for myself with that declinometer.. Really fun thinking of all the ways you can harness different forces to get different measurements.. much more abstract than my usual goals.

Cops do a similar measuring trick with tire skid marks to figure out how fast you were going before a crash.. I imagine those anti-lock brakes are especially easy to measure.

And yeah.. the reality of DIY projects is that there's always some "inaccessible" material lying around that needs to get used.. ask and you shall receive.. that's getting into some deep superstition/spirituality that I have.. If you ever lived through a survival situation you might know what I mean.

Ian is another one of these "people" from an Other Planet.. I can't vouch for his taste in logo design.. but otherwise he seems nice enough.

I'm pretty into trying slide wheels on every wheeled device in existence.. Slide wheels for a car could be damn fun even without the board on top (though it's brutal on the suspension)..

I would try some urethane slide wheels on those skis (they have them up to ~54d) and obviously some UHMW ones.. though I've messed around with sliding on rollerblades and it wasn't really fun at all.. kind of like how DH isn't fun on em either..

and I think sk8norcal is starting to hype the board boobs.. and maybe the cock-cave as well.

My dad has worked in a lot of nuclear plants.. maybe he's seen those bigguns..

The board boobs and caulk cave projects are all on the models terms.. I imagine the more respect they get shown on here the more they'll be into it.

Miranda's a different lady.. but don't worry.. there will be pics.

Those plastic mannequin busts were an anti-present from the head maintenance guy of the building my workshop is in. I'm surprised he didn't squirt caulk on them himself.

Felt like freestyling on that first post a bit:

    Maybe you'll end up penniless-
but what good is money to the world when you're gone?

Maybe someone will steal your ideas and get rich-
but if they were doing something else with their time, how much lamer would it be?

Maybe you'll end up in jail-
but will it be because you broke some laws, or because some people made some harmless things illegal?

So you probably guessed it but it's time to slow things down for a bit.. gotta take some handyman jobs and pay some bills, do the thanksgiving family/friends thing, and decide what adjustments to make to this project as a whole..

Still working on the boobs and the kickboard.. but the projects that take more than a day are never certain when they're getting done.. and it shouldn't be dead style like the week before halloween.. be reading/posting around here like a normal fish, and probably won't be able to resist various quick projects as per usual..

Those two videos are right on sk8norcal.. The treadmill skateboard puzzle has been turning over in my mind for a while.. and I did a lot of sketches and material collecting for a similar anti-gravity machine about a year ago.. got held up because of not having a place to store 30 foot aluminum and steel pipes.. more bmx oriented, rather than basketball.. and also a trebuchet.. looks like they didn't really anticipate the halved acceleration you get when you double your mass though.. their design'd be better with bungees or springs counterbalancing your weight.

    Kraffft, help me D:

I have a new truck design idea.. it intrigues me, but I have no way of testing it because I don't have a CNC machine or the ability to cast metal.. Do you have any advice?

Maybe I should build it high-scale out of whatever, just to see how it functions?
