Re: kraffft work
have you tried making a deck for sliding, as in a deck sized slide puck that's used like a snowboard? It could be a product wasting fail but it could be interesting.

I have tried that. you slide for a quick minute but then just stop due to all the force you are putting on the puck. However It worked great when it was raining you slide forever. but it was still very hard to navigate.

Or you could put a roller blade wheels on the front and back of each ski.

Re: kraffft work
i don't think skis with rollerblade wheels on the bottom (rollerblades) would be as great of an imitation of skiiing...

No, but it's a good substitute. Cross-country/marathon skiiers are into it 'cause it helps them work on their stride.

Depends what you have for tools.. Aluminum can be cut with woodworking tools. Plastic and wood can work fine for prototypes, also modifying exiting trucks/parts can work.
Casting can also be done crudely.. but is generally only worth the time if you are making a good amount.

I'm sure this whole family of ideas is possible.. it's just a challenge of figuring out some materials that'll work well. or there could be some other approaches..
The sideways grip is the hard part.. lots of things slide..
There must be a metal that's corner won't dent or chip when dragged across pavement..
Have steel bristles oriented like hair almost parallel to the ground.. sliding one way, gripping the other.. or something like a cheese grater or fish scales..
How could you give a hovercraft sideways grip?
..
been working too much.. might get a break in a couple days.

Some sort of air foil? Otherwise you have to apply a force in the opposite direction. (I guess I mean a UFO-hovercraft type thing)

Re: kraffft work
Been riding the skate car more.. it's actually very fun if you have the right space.. a big empty parking lot with a good hill.. Getting some speed while the car is in neutral feels a lot better than with gas. It really feels like a skateboard.. the biggest difference being the full suspension, and the bounciness that it gives. Just been riding it always with at least one hand grabbing the deck.
Otherwise not skating much.. can't spare the energy or afford to get hurt while doing construction work.
Though I did tune up a couple shortboards for the 7yo son of one of my clients.. and skated with him and his friend for a bit.. Pretty refreshing how creative they were with coming up with tricks and names for them.. no inhibition or judgementalism.. but you definitely need a lot of patience for all the attention they need.
Hung a door, demolished a wall, put openings in three other walls, re-routed some electric, did a bunch of framing, sheetrock, plastering and finish carpentry, cleaning up all those edges.. building a bathroom this week, maybe a quick deck repair job if there's any good weather..
I could do that type of work indefinitely.. It's enjoyable, and pays well. There's always work, and you can focus on less physically demanding skills as you get old.
It might be what I end up doing.. especially if I can keep it very part time indefinitely.. but there's some discrepancies there that I can't ignore, making the conventional jobs that much harder.. Getting paid so much to spend significant amounts of time realizing the whims of the financially secure.. when I know how much more I could be doing with that time.
So I'm going to figure out a way to get paid to be an independent inventor full time.. in the style that you've seen here.. all open-source.. no patents or licensing.. no limits.
That's what's next.
