It's pretty insanely delicious. As close to all fat that you can get and still have it freeze. It leaves a fatty film on your mouth similar to some other decadent things.. like frosting or overly buttery pastries..
OM NOM NOM NOM? I guess I'll have to take your word for it on that one.

Re: kraffft work
funny.. i was just thinking about a spinny board design today.. relating to a thread about trucks with gears.
this would be more of a log roller.. a deck that has 360 degrees of lean.. with trucks that turn 360 as well... or just the front truck would turn 360 and the rear axle would be fixed (if both turned then you'd tip over when both axles were parallel to the deck.)
just a daydream though.. I'd probably work on a truck with a 180 degree range of turn first..
If the standing surface of your spinny board was a circle.. it would spin you more cleanly when it gets rail bite.
what do you all think about some kind of event where a bunch of people whip up ideas like this? maybe a multi-day thing.. I'm leaning more and more towards doing a tour this summer.. definitely stopping in Utah!

Re: kraffft work
So I'm finally done with that construction stint.. and should be able to afford not working for a while..
So to celebrate I'm having a party.. A THINKING PARTY!
Let's get uninhibited and think up 2009 bad ideas by the end of the decade.
No rules.
make a mini city on the inside of a dome that fits over you while lying in bed.. or at least a mini house.. reach into the fridge and chop some vegetables and stir fry em while watching tv and getting your nails done at the nail salon and hanging out at the bowling alley.
suspend a bed from tall trees in the woods (saw an image once of some artists that did this.. tom something?).
put a bed in the bed of a pickup and park it next to a busy pedestrian area, and hang out in bed.. or set up a bunch of couches, hang out with strangers..
portable couches, couch lawn chair, weatherproof couch, inflatable, very quick to set up/break down, fits in a backpack, very light, very comfortable. tempted to use various packing materials.
regularly bump threads that you enjoy
post pics/vid with every post you make
I'm liking the collective database project.. taking all of the info buried in the fish and editing into a longboarding encyclopedia.. then continuing to refine it.. this is one of the fundamental purposes of the internet.. it's going to happen with all knowledge.. but we're still a long way off from having artificial intelligence that will do it for us.. the best structure for organizing all human knowledge is still unknown, but organizing info at the detailed end is inherently immediately useful and can be easily ported to any structure.. I'd like to see the database be initially based mainly off the forum stickies and then to be ported back in as super organized, readable, efficient stickies, which can be easily added to in the way people are used to: forum replies.. occasionally parsed and edited into a new version..
leave the house wearing only a towel
race electric skateboards at F1 boston (world class go-kart track)
make a skate van by gutting the interior of a vehicle that's tall enough to stand in and setting up a deck that steers the van inside the vehicle. then you can really drive/skate anywhere, and be slightly safer in a crash. maybe even have a driver that only looks like they're driving.
use a flask as a water bottle while skating.. add a hand strap so it makes a good slide puck, but still fits in your pocket.
mix and match syllables and languages when swearing.. shucking fit sucker, I'm gonna ferd on your mucking scheitch bunt.
are there snowboard skate parks yet?
get ski resorts to operate during warm months as DH resorts.. start with one well paved run and see if they can make enough money off of all DH sports to keep the lifts running.
winter longboard.. definitely big fenders to keep water/slush splash to a minimum.. but obviously dress for it. boots with metal teeth on the toes for pushing when on ice, points of screws sticking out of the deck surface for maximum grip, metal studs on wheels, maybe steel runners just barely clearing the ground that the board rides on when there's protruding ice but rolls on wheels for flats. maybe some sort of plow that pushes snow/slush out of the way, but that tilts up out of the way if the nose points toward the ground. (or think longboard/snowboard hybrid, a snowboard that rolls across pavement when encountered).
i like this winter silverfish thing.. it can feel more dead, but all the most dedicated people are here, making for better discussion.
i like the fish in general.. it's fun to say that when it comes up in the real world.. because otherwise people usually either complain or seem embarrased about it.. there's energy here.. and you can make it whatever you want..
capital city A number one excelsius dio
I only celebrate one holiday.. not gonna skate a christmas tree, or a kinara.. though I could get roped into some good olde fashioned Jonesy ball, or using a goalie stick as a boomerang, or battling with pikes chained to a homemade concrete bridge over a flaming pit. Scary Pitmas!
People don't realize how strong the human desire for simplicity is.. think about how simple people prefer their clothing to be.. (or I should say humans typically have a strong prejudice against contraptions) we have the technology to be walking around in climate controlled space suits.. but we don't even use magnetic clasps instead of buttons (though they're on purses and camera bags and things.
it is possible to copy skateboard decks by making a mold of the deck and then using the mold as a press. to make up for the springback of the concave you can accentuate the concave with wood clamps and take the mold off each side while they're on there.

Re: kraffft work
People like simplicity.. overpreparedness is viewed negatively.. Nobody wears a tool belt with everything they could possibly need in day to day life. Carry a backpack that has 10 lbs of items in it that all weigh less than one ounce.. 160 items.. just for fun.
I have two desktop computers set up next to my bed.. CRT monitors.. 2 mice/keyboards. One is slower and reliable, used for typing long things and editing pics/vids. The other is faster, but crashes randomly.. used for heavy web surfing and watching videos. I have sigs, ads, and rep bars turned off on the fish.
incorporate more 2-d objects into fiberglass layups..
prybar board
longer kicktail for more stable tailskids
various methods for elongating decks.. Being tall and long legged, I like a wider stance.. which means that most commercial decks, especially drop throughs and drop decks, feel cramped.. could be addressed at the pressing stage, by making an adjustable length press..
land paddle sticks/slide sticks could have all kinds of attachments.. broom for sweeping runs.. hook for getting towed by a bicycle.. spray paint can for huge tags.. various methods of attaching to board, to pull it behind you like a wagon while walking uphill..
adding a fairing to your car (doubling highway mpg) that is also a quarterpipe/starting gate ramp..
carharts are a lot more abrasion resistant than normal jeans.
something to prevent hip road rash that doesn't look like you're wearing leather underwear over your pants.. gun holsters?
If you're moving or buying a house, make it a major criteria that there be good hills right outside. Check with locals about where the best long term spots are.
make little additions and improvements to your favorite hills.. concrete or otherwise..
If you're in charge of designing any public works.. highway embankments, drainage ditches, public sculpture, architecture, parking garages, etc. discretely make parts of it skateable..
Cheapest diy rope tow for getting back uphill? similar to old ski slopes.. you just grab a rope loop that's constantly running and ski/skate uphill.. something based off a car, jacking up the drive tires..
picnic recipes, and best, cheapest foods to bring to skate sessions..
practice skating in weird positions and discover what obscure benefits they have for different situations..
skate with a boombox
full body slide suit technique: heelside carve where you lay fully on your back.. getting as low as possible.
register a business (city/town hall, might cost $15), get a tax id number, get an account with a skate distributor and get together minimum orders at wholesale.. (roughly 50% off retail).
Sell completes at cost to acquaintances that are interested, but hesitant because of price.. or rent/loan em out.
Feeling skeptical or uneasy about living the easy life? Feeling the emptiness of overindulging in whims? No sense of purpose? Bummer..
Are there any good books about skateboarding? I would be surprised..
My friend had a class in high school called 'industrial processes' or something like that.. where he learned all about how things are made in factories in fairly extensive detail.. PVC pipes are made in a centrifugal mold for example.. resulting in an imprecise inner diameter.. Everyone should be able to take that class..
Every school system in the U.S. should have it's own dedicated second language.. so North Americans would know every language in the world.. and everyone you met would know a lot about one particular country, region or tribe..
It's constantly humbling to me living in a city.. and having a background in construction.. Looking at the building and thinking about how many hundreds of thousands of years and lives went into building it all..
How much money per year is spent on alcohol in the United States?
Money is so weird.
I never spent money on much.. but I'm hesitantly trying out being more of a consumer lately.. Motivated by this feeling that there are some excellent things out there to buy, that would make a big difference somehow, that aren't that expensive, but that I don't know about..
Strippers use baby wipes instead of toilet paper..
I always had the impression that swords were kind of dumb.. until I read Lone Wolf and Cub (classic Japanese manga graphic novel).. which made me realize.. what do you do exactly if someone is standing next to you attacking you with a sword?
I dimly wonder about Hawaiian surf culture occasionally.. because it's the oldest example of something very similar to skateboarding being an integral part of a culture..
Riding a skateboard while wearing a jetpack.
It seems like there must be some simple solution to speed wobble.. and that current speed records could get doubled.. It's fun to imagine.. your body hurtling through space, with a board under it.. your torso kind of stationary, and your feet hovering from side to side.. for some reason it makes me think of F-zero (the video game).. basically high speed hover boarding..
I wonder if the skatecar would get speed wobble?
Is there a good hand signal, or trick, that makes a car that's following close behind you while going down a steep hill back off a bit?
It hasn't hit the beast coast that heavily yet.. but it's funny that in some areas longboarding is stereotypically a bro dude activity.. brobots.. dudebots.. What do you think the bigest brodude in the world is like? or are there a million dudes tied for first?
What are some slide puck/wheel materials that wear out ridiculously quickly, but slide better than anything? An apple? A block of ice? Maybe there's an ice alloy that's more durable.. frozen animal fat? They might last a little longer in the winter..
Ice sliding is a fun summer thing.. in case you never knew.. just use a block of ice as a sled on a grassy hill.
So pissed that I missed this blizzard cuz of work.. hopefully there'll be another.. gotta do the billboard 50 person sled..
I use the terms 'inventor and invention' pretty freely.. but I'm aware that they have a negative egotistical connotation for many people.. or that you could say that true inventions are very rare.. mostly it's just combining or modifying old ideas.. I just can't bring myself to care, though it is fun to try to set out to come up with something completely new.
Or another good criticism/question I've heard is 'why aren't you studying particle physics.. extending the limits of our understanding of the universe.. or something equally ambitious and cutting edge?'
The best answer I have for that is that there's money in that.. it's actually very competitive, and there's already plenty of smart people competing, for access to the necessary equipment..
I also find it equally interesting and challenging to make useful things that could have been made at any point in history, but never were.. A cavemen could have made a mountain bike out of wood and fibers, but never did..
I could get into high tech inventing though.. it's a possibility.. not sure what the motivating factors would have to be though.. Someone like Royal Raymond Rife is inspirational to me.. he was a great independent inventor.. working with optics, destroying specific particles and cells with finely tuned frequencies of light..
It all has to be anti-capitalist to make me happy though.. which is a great general realm to be working in.. inventing useful things that nobody else sees a financial incentive for.. or that undermine a corrupt industry..
The no politics/religion/sex rule here is nice though.. so I won't get too into that.. There's a tricky line to figure out in there though.. It's ok to talk about your understanding of the world.. but it's grating to talk party politics..
I like that song Mongoloid by Devo.. but mongoloid is a racist term that's also offensive to the mentally ill.
My friend and I talk occasionally about starting an inventor store.. a large aspect of which would be scavenging and breaking things down into useful parts..
We were talking the other day about wax rings on toilets (the seal between the sewer pipe and the fixture), he had met a guy who is offering an extermination service that completely kills everything in your house.. by slowly heating the house to 140 degrees, and then letting it slowly cool.. pretty interesting idea.. but a lot of problems with damaging the house, including melting those wax seals..
That led to talking about the gross energy inefficiency of buildings in the U.S., the history of energy surplus that led to it, and a possible future of hyper efficient buildings.. where that feature could be incorporated, resistance to occasional sterilization by slow cooking.. hospitals should have it anyway. along with some probiotic reseeding..

Re: kraffft work
I bet a vibrator board would slide easier and smoother.
skate video ideas.. skating the interior of a house.. making ramps out of furniture, wall rides, ceiling rides..
Pirating shipments of skate goods from overseas..
Start a skate commune/factory/resort in the mountains.
Skate tour with a bus full of skaters hitting spots everywhere.
Event where everyone gets to try every board sport.. top of the line equipment..
Sk8norcal, do you have a collection of actual wackyboards at all, or just pictures? Quiver shot? Someone needs to start a wackyboard museum where you can try them all..
Nice vid with boombox and backpack even..
I'm curious to learn how nice concrete skateparks are made..
Is there such a thing as a urethane wheel that has too much reflex? Are there other materials or approaches that could bring it even further?
Tons of cheap snowboards on craigslist there.. never tried it.. Pretty excited about the snow/road hybrid idea.. The whole city is like a skate/snow park with all the mounds of snow everywhere..
Business rule #1: You have to either dedicate yourself to being likable.. or not let your customers get to know you.. It only takes tiny things to put a bad taste in someones mouth.. and it's very hard to remedy.
Forum analysis: It's interesting to go through and examine what the last post or last couple posts were in older threads.. What kills a thread?
It's interesting the feeling of motivation that an active thread will give you to contribute.. or the effort that people will exert when they're motivated.. but how rare and hard it is to get motivated to do certain things.. going through old writing, collecting and organizing info, that's hard work for most people..
Been thinking more about doing a skate tour.. Leaning towards having it be smaller events.. or even just traveling and visiting other builders around North America.. If there's strong skate scenes (or sympathetic/diy art/music scenes) certain places then having bigger events where people mostly know eachother might be nice.. but generally not heavily advertised to the public.. less stress/more fun for me that way..
Maybe do a presentation of all the fff'd boards.. minimizing repeating myself over and over.. and then everyone can try them out..
Could be a solo tour, or combine forces with any number of other attractions.. or bring a crew of locals around with me to help out and shred..
Not sure on the time frame either.. maybe a month or two.. 2 or 3 events per week.. allowing for rain dates if weather is uncertain in the region..
Spring might be the best time.. spreading the stoke at the beginning of the skate season for most of the U.S. and Canada.. That puts the planning starting very soon..
So if you're interested at all, in having a kooky skate event of some kind.. start thinking about what you'd want it to be like, and get in touch..
Going to my sisters wedding in VA for two days.. If I can find a terminal to enter a couple thousand keystrokes I'll keep this going.. otherwise see you on the 27th.

One idea I had for my senior design project at my university is this: make two trucks where the lean is controlled by small dc motors, no bushings. I'd put a speedometer on one wheel, and an optical encoder on each motor. With this you could program a microcontroller to control the motors to provide resistance and return to center AND prevent oscillation. As a plus, it could increase the resistance with speed!
I'm not doing it though, because no one else wanted to work on it with me. I'm going to go ahead and design some parts of it on my own and work on the controller.
