Not skate related, but snowboard related.

I've had skiing on my mind for the past few days because I'm going soon. (What! You ask, a skater who skis!?) I've also never seriously snowboarded (Again, what.), but anyway a friend is going to show me how to telemark ski, where your heels aren't connected to the ski. I was thinking, then, I'd feel pretty uncomfortable on a snowboard with my feet not being able to move and everything... but what if there was a snowboard binding that allowed you to rotate your ankle down into drop knee? Would this even be useful on the slopes? I have no idea, but i think it would look killer to drop knee during a hard carve, snow flying everywhere.

Is it parallel or surf stance? I've seen someone on what you described but with a parallel stance and alpine bindings.

    That's a Monoski.

IIRC, the Solo-Ski uses a waterski stance.. one foot in front of the other, both pointing forwards.

When I got bored snowboarding and alpine I started telemarking and never went back to either. Best of all worlds.

I was reading about the mech-trucks and thought, what about pistons? Two small pistons, on on each side of the hanger that mount up to the deck. Then you could have a hand pump or small electric pump to adjust the pressure and how much lean it takes to turn the board (more pressure=harder bushing like feel) The top of the piston would have to be on a ball pivot to move with the trucks but in my mind this piston idea would have a lot more rebound to center depending on the psi you put in.

If you really wanted to get technical you could put a small electric pump and sensor to automatically change the pressure based on speed and ocillation. Thoughts?

On the snowboard front, I always find myself trying to adjust my back foot until I get back into it. Front foot is fine that just sticks there, but I like to change my back foot position. It'd be cool to have a slightly rotatable back foot position on a snowboard, for, as you say drop knee and the like, but only a bit as you need the control of the bindings to turn.

Also, I still love this thread, pure energy!

greeat, sounds pretty similar to how i'm thinking about this, but i think it should be in this thread
i've got no real experience with them but i would love to play around with some little cylinders and the difference in ride that could be achieved by using air/oil setup would be crazy.

i'll eventually quote all this over there if noone else does.

Arright guys, I just had another idea.

So say you're learning standup slides. You hang some of your foot off the heelside edge to get a little extra leverage to push the board.

I was thinking about some ways that you could get a little extra purchase over that rail, and what came to mind was wearing dress shoes because they have sort of a heel that could hook onto the rail. But dress shoes are expensive, have little traction, are uncomfortable to wear or walk in, let alone kick with.

I thought that (if you have enough sole left) you could cut a notch in the bottom of your shoe that would hook onto the rail and give extra leverage to push out with, without the weird height difference of a heel or having to wear dress shoes. Which would be dumb.

So, tell me what you think, and what comes of it if anyone tries it.
