folding chair board.. is possible with any board..

what utilitarian items do you want to always have with you.. but are a pain.. or conspicuous to carry??

bolt cutter board.. push cart board/cargo board. ladder board.. board with large/small storage compartment. compartment for skate tools/spare parts/safety gear. board that can be worn or ridden. slingshot/crossbow board.. graffiti stencil board. board that paints on the ground, turn on/off spray paint with foot/while riding. write your sign for hitchhiking on you deck. water bottle holder.. dashboard instruments, speedometer, but also a grade-meter that tells you the steepness of the surface.. ninja.. board that catapults itself and the rider..

Alright scratch, I'll take your odds n ends, but you better start thinking about how I can return the favor.. keep a lookout for problems that seems unsolvable.. or if you need anything that has a chance of turning up in the trash.. I'm doing a ridiculous amount of scavenging for halloween. Also I have a source for free industrial shelving and various wheeled carts.

No such thing as too ugly.. appearance doesn't relate to how good the sex is, or the quality of conversation.

I keep thinking about that spray paint board thing
I decided it would be funner to make wheels out of colored chalk, and try to slide a mural.

less control than a on/off spray paint thing. but... I think using the wheels will be more like "Oh yeah, this was made with a skate board."

    Also, catapult/crossbow/Ninja is my specialty.

This board brought to you by Zach and Gergie who supplied me with these nice fiberglass flat bars.

deck is half inch pine plywood with white formica bottom, salvaged from a kitchen renovation. figured the formica would be good for the free ends of the fiberglass bars to slide against.

Bars would ideally be under more tension while the truck is centered but the hanger attachment was too flimsy to handle it.. design was only considered with the weight of the rider on it (and only intended to be a quick prototype). They work as is, just on the loose side.. but a lot nicer than riding with no resistance/suspension.

axles are un-threaded, un-heat treated stainless steel, so they need the outer support to keep from flexing.. this idea seemed more absurd to me before doing it.. but seems fairly reasonable now.. could double as fenders and wheelbite prevention on any style of truck.. and obviously don't need to stick out as far.

Video guest starring Providence noise rock anti-legend Dan St. Jacques (Olneyville Sound System, Landed).. so if you need a soundtrack play these two videos at the same time (and imagine the sound of feedback is actually wood rubbing against wood creaking like crazy):

So the most widely used term for a gauge that measures slope is an 'inclinometer'..

Inclinometer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you have an Iphone, you can get an inclinometer app:
    Google

Or you can make one.. there's so many simple ways to do this that it's hard to decide on a method.. but here's what I decided to try out..

I've been measuring the grade of hills around town for a little while now, using a level with a mark at 100cm, and a metric ruler.

This is more of a declinometer since I wanted to try to measure decline while moving downhill (though it would be nice to be able to measure both decline and incline).

Alcohol might be good for this because it won't freeze and has reasonably high surface tension:

    Coloring the liquid:

    Calibrating (using the level/ruler method):

The finished declinometer, installed and resting on a level surface:

At rest on a street that I measured as 13% grade with the level.. The meter reads about 14%.. not bad for a rough prototype.. should use a precision blown glass tube next time, instead of clear vinyl:

Not much to take video of.. particularly at night. The bubble in the meter turns all frothy while you're skating, giving a +/- 2% reading. Should use a small ball that floats in the tube instead.

The gray text is to distinguish between wholesome luke and evil luke.. it's hard to tell otherwise.

Slide mural is a great idea. Used to do that with my car in snowy parking lots. Maybe pour a long puddle of paint on the ground and slide through it into the mural zone.

Would be really cool to just run lines of paint out of a can of a bunch of different colors, then slide through them all and let them blend.

I always thought you could attach a big spring to the back of the board, with a piece of chalk inside of it.. the spring would drag the chalk with constant tension on the blacktop... it'd be sweet to see people's "lines" they ride when downhilling.. or a big pack of boarders making designs.
