I did hear about CLB before the Fish. I have family in Chicago and visit every so often. When I decided to get back into skating I wanted to try before buying so searched for companies/stores in areas that I frequent. CLB was one and the more I looked the more I liked......THEN I found that there had been some sort of SNAFU.....from which there has not been a resolution to this date. I completely understand the frustration and even the use of "foul language". Heck I'm an adult and I would have had a visit to Chicago and sicked my brother in laws on him (both Lawyers), while cussing away. Most of his customers were probably board members which would mean teens. The hit on them would normally be bigger than on a adult plus they would have a lesser chance of knowing what to do as well as the ability to do it.

I agree with Ogre that Julian should at least come forth and honestly let people know what happened and what is going to be done to resolve the problem. There may be no short term fix, and people may never see their money, but it would be nice for him to at least say so. Anyone that still has communication with him should let him know. Heck the mods could be given warning and let him post and then close the thread to stop the inevitable flame fest.

Well, here in Chicago I haven't yet gotten a chance to run across him. If anyone knows his where abouts I'd love to pick his head. If he'd be willing to fork over the molds and designs, I'd fulfill all his outstanding orders. I know it's a longshot, but the only way to get a CLB is to make it yourself. Somebody here knows where he is, i assure you. And that person should tell him to get a hold of me and repair his name in the community. I know he's busy making dressers or what not. But if he'd allow me to carry the CLB torch, not only would he regain his name, but help restore to black mark on Chicago he's given us. We here at CLS are desperately trying to rebuild Chicago in the longboard community, and it's a shame that the one person that put us on the map, also made it crumble to firey ash.

Well my response was mainly due to the fact that he called the guy a "bastard," which I think is really unfair, similar to anyone else calling him similar names.

As far as I understand, he didn't start up the whole business as a front to steal people's money, so it's not like it was a dastardly scheme which would warrant demonizing CLB.

And no, I haven't ordered a board from CLB, and you're right about not having heard of CLB until I've joined SF. I don't see why it matters. I've had large sums of money owed to me before (tried to sell stuff and got a bounced cheque, person disappeared) and yes it blows and hurts that you've trusted someone and they break that, but it's only money. It can be earned back. It's not personal.

I understand that it can go beyond the money issue, but then I would expect more than comments about how "that asshole/bastard/some variation owes me ". To me, the choice of words suggests that the money issue trumps anything else.

Doesn't matter why he did it or what the originating intent was, be it respectable or not. Matter of fact is he took orders he never delivered on. In my humble and ignorant opinion that is an act that would directly warrant demonizing.

If you don't deliver what you are paid for you are a thief.

If you don't face up to why you did it you are a coward.

This world is lacking in honor and respect and it's companies like that that lower the bar and allow others to compare their faulty customer service as excusable.

To back that up I have personally taken money out of my own pocket to cease business with companies that practice those sort of acts.

If Julian wants to refund all the orders he hasn't delivered on and explain why it happened, that would be a pretty good start.

This may be a perfect microcosm of the industry in it's entirety.

The only real difference is that the small builder is a single point of failure whereas larger companies typically have more inertia through somewhat deeper pockets, more marketing and a larger management/employee pool.

Additionally, the small builder/customer relationship tends to be far more personal so failure, far more painful to the individuals involved.

The internet simply makes the Jerry Springer aspects easier for all to realize.
