Re: Anyone interested in custom racks/storage?
If you make the cutouts for the deck a little less deep, it`ll be easier to stack multiple decks on it.

Re: Anyone interested in custom racks/storage?
Blix - Thanks for the suggestion, but I designed it to support the board from the center. Having the weight of a complete on one edge of the concave while in long term storage is not a good idea IMHO. It may not do anything quickly, but over time it could affect the concave. Especially on custom built decks.
Cheefa - How many slots do you want? Shipping might get expensive if it's over 6 ft. The slots are 5" apart, so you can figure the length for what you want. Yours would be custom and thus a non-production one off. I would need to adjust the price a bit. PM me if you are seriously interested.
Everyone else - First off, thanks for the opinions and compliments. Are you guys good with the price point? They would be a natural finish or could be stained or varnished to your preference for a couple of bucks extra. The package would come with assembly screws and wall mount toggles (not ez-anchors or plug anchors, those would pull out). I will go buy lumber tomorrow if you guys are serious...
I have been staring at mine all evening. I love just grabbing a board off the rack and heading for the street. I was thinking about adding a helmet hook at the bottom.
PS> Cheefa- The "fathom" is awesome. I can shape one for you from a cracked dervish and brackets from G-Bomb (brackets are 60 from G-Bomb). We can work a price on shaping and setup.

Re: Anyone interested in custom racks/storage?
You know, I just realized that I could have called this thread:
"Hey, Check out my rack!"
Lol. Dammit, missed that one.

We'll talk later on this, my dervish has some pretty gnarlly cracks in the cut-out holes and the glass is looking like its about to split. So eventually I'd have a dervish for this.

Re: Anyone interested in custom racks/storage?
I would be interested, I just need to buy my new board, then this would be my next thing to buy! I've been looking for a good rack to store my boards and this looks perfect

I knew there was a reason that I saved my cuttings from the Dervish. I can bolt them up to any deck and use them for a shaping guide. The thing rides awesome. I would almost say it would be worth it to buy a deck and a set of brackets just with the intention of making one. But I would shed a tear cutting up a brand new Dervish. Even if it was to make it even better. If you stay away from nose manuals, this thing is perfect. PM me when you get ready to build one, great way to salvage a deck that is damaged this way. The crack ends up right in the middle of the bracket mounts and is reinforced by the aluminum. I have had no problems out of mine. I think that I am going to try some Bennett 6.0's on it tonight.

Re: Anyone interested in custom racks/storage?
Ok, so I have decided to make a go at this project given the comments. I am going to make templates and do a production run of 10 the first time through. Finished ply, sanded edges. I will pre-assemble them and then take them apart for packaging/shipping.
Cost will be 35 bucks plus shipping.
Get your pre-orders in now via PM to me.
I am adding this thread to my sig to see if anyone else is interested.
I will let you guys know when I get started.
Anyone with custom rack requests can hit me with a PM as well. I can design in anything that you need that is feasible.
All production cuts are going to be done on an inverted router (router table), so clean, smooth, rounded edges will be abundant.

I would definitely be interested in one !!
How do I get one?
-
Re: Anyone interested in custom racks/storage?
Send me a PM with your name and address and paypal email. I will send an invoice. Probably take a week to get this started.
I am going to make 10 in the first run. All 5 slot racks with a top shelf and helmet/gear hooks at the bottom.

Re: Anyone interested in custom racks/storage?
If you could dish out a "rack" for a car trunk, I would be on it quick. I'm sick of throwing my boards into my car and having a huge mess.

Well, I need to build the first one in order to weigh it. I am not taking mine down off the wall for shipping estimates. I would have done it first but I didn't know there would be this demand.

I can do this no problem. Do you want the slots straight instead of angled? Also, I would need dimensions of your trunk.
Ok, I have had one person ask for black, one ask for red, one ask for a trunk rack. One person followed my instructions and sent me a PM with his address and stuff. Sounds like this might actually work. I am going to pick up materials today or tomorrow. I will make however many I can from 1 sheet of finished ply. Probably 10 or so. It will take me at least a day or so to complete the template so the rest can be duplicated on the router.
I am going to use stain, not paint. So wood grain will show through. It will be a rubbed finish. I will take pictures to show you what is available. The only problem is I would have to raise my price a bit for labor and materials. So a finished (natural rubbed, black rubbed, red rubbed) piece would be $45 plus shipping instead of $35.
Is that acceptable to everyone? (Cause if not, you are getting a can of Krylon and spraying it yourself. Hehe.)

Re: Anyone interested in custom racks/storage?
So I have been working on the production templates this afternoon and made some decisions. The material will be 1/2 inch SandePly. It has a good look to it and can be painted or stained. I am not going to be painting or staining these things. One of the problems was that there are so many colors and I can't go buy a bunch of different ones for peoples tastes. I want to make an affordable rack for those college students that can barely afford pizza and beer. The absolute cheapest I can make them is 35 bucks each. I went and spent 100 bucks on materials today and setup the collapsible wood shop in the garage. I have a router table, table saw, drill station, and assembly area. The racks will have been assembled once and broken down for shipping (to ensure good fit of all parts). All parts will be router cut and duplicated, so no odd cuts or ripples. Every piece will be exactly the same cut. I will lightly sand the edges in order to clear the piece of possible splinters. I will post some pics of the production tomorrow. I will probably have around 10 available. One goes to the local skate shop proprietor. One will go to the guys at Stoked Skateboards, they may be working out a deal to carry them. Not done with the details on that deal. Gonna try not to make any mistakes, don't want to waste the ply.
Pics tomorrow night after I hammer some of these out. Time to let the sawdust fly...
