yeah i drop deck with a deep (not W) concave. that would be so nice. maybe 40 - 43 inches long? some where in there?

Re: ~~~~~ Nelson Longboards ~~~~~
Hey guys, sorry i havn't been around much. Senior engineering curriculum with 20 cresdit w. two labs and two seminar classes, as well as senior project it pretty intense.
As for a dropped board, the reason I haven't made one yet is that it would be expensive for me to get maple veneers and pretty much not worth it unless I got them in a large quantity.
I put a decent amount of work into designing a dropped board, and had all of the dimensions concave, shape etc planned. and i was planning on ordering a bunch of maple to prototype and then maybe getting it into a larger scale production. but plans kind of fell though and I got extremely busy.
so for now, no dropped deck unfortunately. if i can get some veneers for a good price or if i end up with some disposable income, maybe i'll buy a batch of maple.

hey so why can't you make it out of the baltic birch? not trying to disagree with you, you know a ton more about this stuff then me. but couldnt you make it ouf of baltic birch then just reinforce it with carbon fiber and fiberglass so it doesnt flex?
Oh, and isn't roar rockit pretty cheap maple? i'm sure youve looked into that right?

the thinnest baltic birch is 1/8", its possible to make a dropped board with this and i've seen it done a number of times on the fish, but the transitions between the concave and the drop, the the steepness of the drop, would have to be much more gradual then what you can accomplish with 1/16" maple.
so in order to get really effective foot pockets with the concave extending close to where the drop is, and the drop being steep to grip the outside of your foot. I think something thinner like 1/16" would be much better suited.

Oh.. i see, thanks for the info man. hey, could you make a carbon drop through, that had a concave and no camber, with the shape as your un-named free-ride? and have i be pretty stiff so i could use it as a DH board?

That would be do-able. i'm very busy right now, so i'm limiting orders to about 1-2 at a time. so it would probably be about 2 weeks or so until i could take any more.

Re: ~~~~~ Nelson Longboards ~~~~~
just a bit of a bump followed by some pics of my well loved nelson
love this thing, its seen alot of action this summer, and it even developed some rocker for me, how nice of it
edit: also, just a note, i'm pretty sure this was the first nelson with the lime green blue combo

awesome its great to see a well used board.
and you are correct your board was the first with the metallic blue/lime green combo. which became the most popular color combo. used on a few other carbon dropthroughs and half nelsons.

very nice work sir
yup, thats the more aggressive of my two W-concave molds. they both have a very mellow hump in the middle, just enough to hug the arch of your foot and not be uncomfortable. But this ones a bit steeper on the sides to give you a little pressure on your toes and heels to lock you in.

If i remember correctly the hump is 4" wide and a mellow 1/16"-1/8" high, then it goes up about 5/8" over the course of 3" on each side.

hey when i get another board (probably next year) i will def make you guys first choice. Gotta support my home state and all ^____^, plus your boards look awesome!

I didn't even know this thread existed!

BlahGuy... is the deck sagging now?

That is one sexy deck, man. Very nice.
How deep exactly is the concave on the carbon dropthrough?

well.... it came pretty stiff and bouncy, barely could tell if there was any flex at all, but like i said, i used this board alot, from crazy downhill sessions to 20 mile treks in the summer (not to mention that a few of my friends are 300 plus pounds and they love to ride it)
the thing is though that i have never cared much about flex, like, at all. So the fact that it sags a bit and gives me a bit one inch rocker when i stand on it is great
its all prefference dude

Re: ~~~~~ Nelson Longboards ~~~~~
I concur, just asking. A new (used) deck I got, I really like and it's got some flex. More than I thought though. I had my buddy try it Sat and noticed that while it's bouncy, that's a pretty good sag in the middle. I'm 215 and he's 230 I think, so I was a bit nervous. I'm actually thinking about flipping the board over. It's got a spray grip over some slick fabric on top and two colors of wood on the bottom. There's not really much grip to it and I don't want to touch that fabric, sooooo...
You think this would cause it to break? I wonder because fishing rods are built with flex in a specific direction. Go against it and el snappo!

Re: ~~~~~ Nelson Longboards ~~~~~
i doubt it would break, i've heard of people doing that with some boards(forget which ones) all the time
if you worry about not having concave, its not a problem. i have a friend who rides a homemade deck made with reverse concave, and its the flexiest thing ever, a little griptape does the job well

Re: ~~~~~ Nelson Longboards ~~~~~
beautiful
imo, the "nelson longboards" text would look great on the bottom (because most of the time you'll want to cover the top with grip)
