most of the pucks in the picture don't have a bevel yet
and after a lot of work on the grinder, I found that you don't really need the bevel to go all the way to the edge. Especially on the palm pucks, it's not even practical. The less material I take off, the longer the pucks last.... beveling a half inch puck to the edge, actually takes off a considerable amount of material
also, it takes FOREVER to put a bevel on the Mudstones. easily 2-3 times as long as my other materials. I guess that says something about it's wear properties!
I've put a lot of testing into these pucks and have not once caught on a crack. Not to say that it would be impossible, but the bevel's seem to do their job well

Nice! glad to hear it. sounds like the DelrinAF is actually living up to its numbers. good luck at SlideQuest!
Gav, you'll be one of the only riders to have the hand-stenciled Mechanix gloves! they're classics!

Heh, I'm still on the Greenhorns! After Greenwich, I'm scared of the mudstones and their mad slideyness! Been working on pressure spins and massive surrendurs though and out local hill started to feel a bit sticky (more sticky than greenwich), so next time I'm gonna bust out the mudstones to try and get more speed and rotations!

Re: ⓂⓈⓉ MudSlide Gloves+Pucks: available 3/24/09!
And yea Mudstones are amazing and Greenhorns are very very smooth when they start getting at higher speeds. My mudstones continue to be awesome, they're even slidey in 90 degree weather, I have NEVER had a puck work so well all the time (and I don't treat my pucks lightly, people I skate with know that). And there's like a mm off of my mudstones (they wear about as much even a little less [I kill the BV material when I do pressure spins] so that shows how impressive their wear is).

Goddamn! Too many things for me to spend money on at once. I'll definitely be getting a set of BlackTops when I get a slide board, probably after exams.

Re: ⓂⓈⓉ MudSlide Gloves+Pucks: available 3/24/09!
Now that I've had some time with my Mudstone pucks, I wanted to offer a review of my own. The Mudstones came in a little over two weeks ago, and I've had the chance to go out for about 6 or so slide sessions using these pucks in that time. With the exception of the first session, my slide sessions typically last a minimum of an hour and a half depending on several factors. I use my own homemade gloves, so this review is just on the Mudstone palm and finger pucks, not the gloves.
First Impressions
The pucks are cut and sized well. The palm pucks are not overly small, and it's not so large that it gets in the way. The finger pucks are nice, and a welcome upgrade from the clunky Corian I was using before. I have separated fingers on my gloves, so it's nice to have the separate pucks as opposed to the popular bar that crosses all fingers. I personally find this setup of finger pucks to be more comfortable. One thing I would remark upon is what seems like just a token amount of bevel on the palm pucks. I assume that this is a measure of how difficult it is to cut/shape the Delrin AF, but the bevel on my pucks did not last very long.
The Ride
Let's boil it down to brass tacks here. The slickness of these pucks is something you have to experience to truly appreciate. Even with the amount of times it has been repeated in this thread, the mad slide-ability of these pucks is still understated. These things are so amazingly fast that it almost feels like your hands are floating above the pavement. Starting out on my first session, I was sliding so fast that it was difficult for me to land a few particular slides (particularly ones that involve me spinning more than 180º . The first session only lasted about 45 minutes. By this point little wear was showing on the pucks, but I had managed to get rid of some of the bevel on my right hand puck.
After finding my comfort zone, I was able to hit the handful of slides in my trick bag. By my second session I was really getting into the feel of the pucks. When throwing myself into big flat spins (or are they pressure spins) I found my body was spinning around my board much more quickly than with any pucks I had used previously. During one particular session, I decided to just go for as much rotation as I could on my flat spins (540º being my current ceiling), and managed to land a 900º TS spin.
On the second or third session, I had worn through most of the bevel on the right hand puck, and caught the only edge that I have caught so far on these pucks. It is worth noting that I've also managed to get my beveled Darkspeeds caught on road goblins (such as over-painted yellow lines) on a couple of occasions, so this isn't really a big deal because, as the saying goes, "it happens."
Wear and Tear
I feel like a champion of sorts. Unlike what others here have experienced, I have managed to shave a decent bit of material off of my palm pucks. I don't have many standies in my repertoire (read: one), so my hands are down most of the time during my slide sessions. The Florida heat and my weight (~190#) are also factors of friction when considering the wear I've put into my pucks.
Being right handed, I tend to put more weight on my right hand puck in two-handed slides. Also worth mentioning is that I ride goofy, which means it is my right hand that goes down when I attempt a coleman or any other heelside slide. As a result of this, one puck has worn down at a faster rate than the other. One puck shows just a little wear, while the other puck has seen weight loss due to a heavy asphalt diet. The attached picture proves I should be more attentive to how often I rotate my pucks.
Conclusions
I feel like the speed of these pucks opens the door for me to do slides that were previously out of my reach. There definitely was a slight re-learning curve for me when first using these pucks, but the more I get used to them, the less I want to go back to having slow hands when I finally do end up shredding the palm pucks. I've been tearing through the palm pucks faster than I had anticipated based off what I've read here, but getting lazy about rotating my pucks probably had a considerable part to play in the lopsided wear I've seen. If you're looking for a fast slide puck to put that extra bit of glide into your tech slides, then I don't think you could find one faster than Mudstones.

if you wear gravity slide gloves with wet/sweaty hands, it turns out that the dye is actually a really really dark blue (most black dyes are). Then it comes off onto your hands and turns your hands blue. I was convinced I was turning into a smurf.

Are the mudsotnes too slick for beginners?

Best beginner puck is UHMW(PE) aka Greenhorns. Most slide pucks are some sort of UHMW and its a good middle ground between slick and stick. Its good for soft wheel sliding too b/c most people (including myself) prefer more resistance when sliding/drifting softwheels. Mudstones aren't anything you can't adjust to, but if you're just starting, i'd go with UHMW because mudstones are kinda just for tech sliding (of course you can use them for w/e you want but I think they'd be best for tech sliding specifically).

This is sound advice. The GreenHorns would probably be best for beginners (hence the name....). They offer more resistance and are much cheaper. they also last a long time
MudStones are crazy fast! I ate pavement the first couple times I slid them. They have a little bit of learning curve because they slide so fast. These are awesome for tech sliding.... but I bet they'd make a killer race puck, as well.

Jeah boyeee, those mudstones are FAST. Can't wait to try some devestating pressure spins on them, no lost speed!

Thats why I love Delrin in general so much. I tried out some Gravity Delrin stuff and did a 900 p/s and was still going like 10mph (normally i'm stopped after a 900) and I yelled out in joy. So thats why I bought mudstones, I was like "delrin that lasts as long as UHMW...........thats a win".

I've got to agree, delrin is the best puck material, so fast. And this new Delrin AF is sick, I love my mudstones. Although nowadays I'm much more into stand up sliding they are great for hands down slides.

Re: ⓂⓈⓉ MudSlide Gloves+Pucks: available 3/24/09!
just got my gloves in today:
Brown bombers with black top palm pucks and greenhorn finger/thumb pucks.
I can honestly say these pucks completely blew my mind. The black top palm is amazingly smooth and wayyyy fast. But having the green fingerpucks helps me kinda control it a lot more and allows mr tovlean a little on my fingers and burn a lot of speed off. They are however still very fast. I really like having 3puks per hand rather than 2 (bvs, loaded) it's much more comfortable and allow me to grab rail with no worry that They might slide out. I took em out today for about an hour for some hardcore sliding and I see virtually no wear in any of the pucks an I am very satisfied well worth the 2 1/2 week wait..
As for the brown bomber gloves, they are alright. Comfortable. Haven't burned a whole thru them yet so that's a plus. The pull string is a little hard to use but it works I'm glad it's there. Overall I am very impressed with jeff's gloves and will definently stick behind him and support mud slide because these products are legit. 100times better than loaded pucks. Love the price and quality of these pucks and gloves btw if nobody noticed.
Btw. The pucks are HUGE compared to bv's. I love it
Only con I actually saw in the gloves is I think there should be a little more velcro on the palm. It works just fine but there's a little bit of puck hanging off the Velcro and it makes it rather easy to pull it off but maybe that's a good thing.
Amazing gloves though.
